OBJECTIVETo establish a method for the determination of curculigoside in Curculigo orchioides, a species of crude medicine.
METHODThe methanol was used as the solvent of exatraction and the curculigoside was extracted from the crude medicine with the method of the ultrasonic vibration. Using Sep-Pak C18 cartridges to purify the solution, the curculigoside was detected by HPLC. Intersil ODS-3(150 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 microns) chromatographic column was used, mobile phase of methanol-water-ice acetic acid (45:80:1) and detect wavelength was set at UV 283 nm.
RESULTThe average recovery was 99.2% for the determination of curculigoside, RSD = 1.7% (n = 5). The content range of the curculigoside for 6 kinds of different samples was from 0.11% to 0.35%.
CONCLUSIONThis method could be used to control the quality of crude medicine C. orchioides.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of the Sanxianxinli capsule against fatigue and viability of mice.
METHODThe mouse shinning, burden swimming, heat-resistant, cold resistant and tolerating anoxia were detected by experiment.
RESULTThe results showed that the Sanxansinli capsule have function of improveing the stamina, cold resistant, heat-resistant and tolerating anoxia, and prolonging were the survival time in cold, high temperature and anoxia.
CONCLUSIONThe Sanxianxinli capsule have function against fatigue and can also improve the resistibility of body.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2006;31(6):485-486
OBJECTIVETo investigate the change of pathologic morphology in superheat mice.
METHODThe superheat was used in the experinent. The pathologic morphology of thymus gland, spleen, liver and lung was observed by light microscope.
RESULTThe histiocytes of thymus gland, spleen, liver and lung presented no changes in lesion, congestion and morphology.
CONCLUSIONThe Sanxian Xinli capsule have function of protecting the superheat mouse viscera.

OBJECTIVETo explain functions, differences and coordination of three divided combinations of the "Erxian decoction", the famous traditional Chinese formula, on the effective sites of gonad gland at the cell level.
METHODThe effects of Erxian decoction and its main disassembled prescriptions, "Kidney Warming", "Yin Nourishing" and "Chong-ren Adjusting", on the level of testosterone (T) progesterone (P) estradiol (E2), respectively secreted by the primary culture Leydig cell, luteal cell and granulosa cell, were measured by radioimmunoassay.
RESULT(1) Erxian decoction could stimulate the T secretion while its three main disassembled prescriptions would seem no individual promoting effect on the secretion of T. (2) Erxian decoction and the "Kidney Warming" had the stimulating effect on P secretion, and the action of the whole formula being better than that of the "Kidney Warming". (3) Erxian decoction and its main disassembled prescriptions had the stimulating effect on E2 secretion, especially the whole formula.
CONCLUSIONErxian decoction can stimulate the secretion of T of the Leydig cell, P of luteal cell and E2 of granulosa cell. It can be seen that the effect of the whole formula is better than that of its main disassembled prescriptions.
