Ovulatory dysfunction refers to absent ovulation or luteal insufficiency. It is commonly seen in women with irregular menstruation or menstrual cycles, especially in those with oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea. Ovulatory dysfunction is considered the single-most frequent cause of female infertility. Clinically, the two major causes of ovulatory dysfunction are polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome (LUFS). Acupuncture-moxibustion improves ovulation and helps with infertility. Through a systematic review and analysis on relevant literatures in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture-moxibustion Databankover the last decade, this paper summarized the characteristics and pattern of acupuncture-moxibustion points for improving ovulation in order to provide an optimal acupuncture-moxibustion protocol in this regard.

OBJECTIVE: To study the humoral factor of acupuncture in improving functional activities of the organism. METHODS: Neurons of the cerebral cortex from the new born rats were taken to be cultured in a strictly controlled medium. Seven to ten days later, fluorescein-molecular probe Fluo-3AM was used for staining intracellular Ca(2+). Ca(2+) concentration and its changes after application of acupuncture serum were measured by using a laser confocal microscope. Normal serum and acupuncture serum were derived from the normal control rats and the rats undergoing electro-acupuncture of "Baihui (GV 20)", "Zusanli (ST 36)", "Quchi (LI 11)" and "Sanyinjiao (SP 6)" for 2 weeks. RESULTS: After application of normal serum, the intracellular Ca(2+) concentration increased strikingly immediately at the beginning, and gradually got stable afterwards. When acupuncture serum was added to the culture fluid, Ca(2+) concentration lowered significantly. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that bioactive substances in serum collected from rats undergoing acupuncture can affect the intracellular Ca(2+) concentration of the cerebral neurons, and the humoral factor may participate in the effect of acupuncture in regulating functional activities of the organism.

Objective To establish an accuracy test method for MDCT dose assessment based on information in DICOM images. Methods The type of MDCT studied in this paper was widely used in clinical practice.A software package developed by java language was used to automatically read doserelated information from DICOM files of MDCT.The CTDIvol and DLP of each pectoral or abdominal scan was calculated based on these information and the basic scan parameters such as collimation,mAs and pitch. The calculated values were compared with the displayed values. Results For pectoral scans, the difference between the calculated and displayed values was between-2%-8% for CTDIvol,and-2%-5% for DLP.For abdominal scan, the difference between the calculated and displayed values was 0-2% for CTDIvol,and-2%-3% for DLP.Conclusions This method is useful for MDCT dose assessment and is worth disseminating its application for general use.

Objective To investigate the effect of acupuncture plus astragalus polysaccharide on the expression of Bcl-2 protein in pancreatic islet b cells in db/db mice. Method C57BL/Ksj-db/db mice as an animal model of spontaneous type 2 diabetes were selected for this experiment. Five-week-old db/db mice were randomized into model, acupuncture, medication and acupuncture+medication groups. Meanwhile, db/m mice were selected as a normal group. The acupuncture group received acupuncture at points Housanli (equivalent to Zusanli, ST36), Neiting(ST44) and Yishu(Extra) and the medication group, an oral gavage of astragalus polysaccharide (1400 mg/kg). Both groups were treated once daily, for 12 consecutive weeks. After the end of experiment, blood glucose, insulin and resistin were measured, and the expression of Bcl-2 protein in islet b cells was determined by immunohistochemical method. Result Blood glucose, insulin and resistin levels were significantly lower in the acupuncture+medication, acupuncture and medication groups than in the model group. They were significantly lower in the acupuncture+medication group than in the acupuncture and medication groups and significantly lower in the acupuncture group than in the medication group. The expression of Bcl-2 protein in islet b cells was higher in the medication, acupuncture and acupuncture+medication groups than in the model group; there was a statistically significant difference (P<0.01). The expression of Bcl-2 protein was higher in the acupuncture+medication groups than in the medication group (P<0.01) and it was basically the same in the medication group as in the acupuncture group; there was no statistically significant difference (P>0.05). Conclusion Acupuncture plus astragalus polysaccharide can significantly reduce blood glucose and serum insulin and resistin levels and increase the expression of Bcl-2 protein in islet b cells to effectively inhibit apoptosis in islet b cells in db/db mice. Its effect is better than that of acupuncture alone or medication.

Chinese Journal of Dermatology 1995;0(01):-
Objective To investigate the species and DNA polymorphism of Candida strains from different individuals and to find the relationship between the species or DNA patterns of strains and different patient groups. Methods The present study chose the isolates from 3 different sources groups(from the patients with vulvovaginal candidiasis, recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis or asymptomatic carriers respectively). Germ tube test, chlamydospore test, CHROMagar Candida and API20 kit system were applied to separate non-Candida albicans strains from Candida albicans. Random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was used to study DNA typing of 97 strains of Candida collected from different patients and to determine whether isolates from different patients were genetically similar or dissimilar. The data were analyzed by SPSS10.0. Results The ninety-seven isolates consisted of 83 strains of Candida albicans and 14 of non-Candida albicans. Of 9 random primers used, two primers (primer 4 and primer 7) gave good reactions, the sequences of which were 5′-ACCCGACCTG-3′, 5′-GGTGACGCAG-3′ respectively. The 99 isolates could be classified into 19 and 21 genotypes by the two primers respectively. Different genotype was not shown in most isolates from different groups. A particular genotype associated with different conditions was seen in only a few isolates. Conclusion Candida albicans is the main pathogenic yeasts and most strains of non-Candida albicans are C.glabrata in the vulvovaginal candidiasis. Genotyping of most isolates didn′t show obvious correlation with different patient groups.

ObjectiveTo explore the value of CT virtual endoscopy in the treatment strategies in low rectal cancer surgery.MethodsFifty- seven cases of rectal cancer in Jining First Hospital were collected, preoperative rectum CT virtual endoscopy, detailed records of patients with rectal invasion and the circumstances surrounding lymph nodes were investigated.Differences were compared in patients after routine pathological examination. And the distance of the tumor from the anal margin was compared with the preoperative rectum on rectal examination and rectal CT virtual endoscopy.ResultsPreoperative rectum CT virtual endoscopy had no significant difference in evaluation of metastases of the surrounding lymph nodes.Compared with postoperative pathological examination( x2 =2.5,P > 0.05 ),while had significant difference in evaluation in perirectal infiltration( x2 =4.44,P < 0.05 ).Rectal examination and rectum CT virtual endoscopy had no significant difference judgement of the tumor from the anal margin ( P > 0.05 ).ConclusionsCT virtual endoscopy has a great significance in the preoperative evaluation of rectal cancer surgical treatment strategies, which should be further studied.
