AIM:To make compound demethycantharidin(including Radix astragali and Rhizoma bletillae) into stomach remaining-floating sustained-release preparation. METHODS:Radix astragal and Rhizoma betillae pulverized to superfine powders were combined with hydrophilic gel to manufacture stomach remaining-floating sustained-release tablet(floating tablet). RESULTS:The tablet started to drift in 3 min in the artificial gastric juice and float lasted for more than 8 h. By isotopic tracering, the floating tablets given on an empty stomach were retarded for 2-3 h and on large meal for 4-5 h in combination with ordinary tablet only retarded for 1 h. A pharmacopoeia dissolution method was set up to determine the release. 50% of tablets were disintegration in 5 h,70% in 8 h. The t 1/2 was 5.1 h(2-4 h for ordinary tablets),and the MRT was 8.3 h(3.3 h for ordinary tablets),and the remaining-floating sustained-release tablets showed a relative bioavailability of 230.71%. CONCLUSION:Pretreatment of raw herbs from compound demethylcantharidin and selection of the excipients will help to produce the herb-containing floating tablet.

Analysis of neural stem cells' movements is one of the important parts in the fields of cellular and biological research. The main difficulty existing in cells' movement study is whether the cells tracking system can simultaneously track and analyze thousands of neural stem cells (NSCs) automatically. We present a novel cells' tracking algorithm which is based on segmentation and data association in this paper, aiming to improve the tracking accuracy further in high density NSCs' image. Firstly, we adopted different methods of segmentation base on the characteristics of the two cell image sequences in our experiment. Then we formed a data association and constituted a coefficient matrix by all cells between two adjacent frames according to topological constraints. Finally we applied The Hungarian algorithm to implement inter-cells matching optimally. Cells' tracking can be achieved according to this model from the second frame to the last one in a sequence. Experimental results showed that this approaching method has higher accuracy compared with that using the topological constraints tracking alone. The final tracking accuracies of average of sequence I and sequence II have been improved 10.17% and 4%, respectively.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2008;25(2):439-444
To study the cleavage of neuron stem cells in time lapse image sequences and realize their features abstraction, identification and tracking, a precise segmentation algorithm that can preserve the shape of division cells is presented in this paper. The fuzzy threshold segmentation is based on Zadth's maximum entropy. The optimal parameters of the maximum fuzzy entropy are decided by genetic algorithm. Region merging and splitting of the under-segmentation objects of the result of fuzzy segmentation are realized by weighted distance transform, region labeling and some operations on morphology. By comparison with some results of fuzzy and hard segmentation, this algorithm can implement the precise segmentation that is necessary for some specified objects in automatic identification and tracking of neuron stem cells.

Chinese Medical Journal 2004;117(12):1830-1833
BACKGROUNDSingle fiber electromyography (SFEMG) is a sensitive technique for detecting abnormalities in neuromuscular transmission and is mainly used in the diagnosis of neuromuscular junction disorders, such as myasthenia gravis. While the process of denervation-reinnervation in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) can also result in immature collateral nerve terminals and instability of neuromuscular transmission, the purpose of this study was to investigate the changes and clinical values of SFEMG in patients with ALS.
METHODSVolitional SFEMG was performed on the extensor digitorum communis (EDC) of 78 patients with ALS (men 52, women 26) who had been previously diagnosed by history, clinical features, and neurophysiological studies. The mean jitter, the percentage of jitter >55 micros, the impulse blocking percentage, and fiber density (FD) were determined. These results were compared to normal controls. In addition, the SFEMG indices were analyzed for correlations with the duration of ALS, the EDC strength score on the Medical Research Council (MRC) scale, and spontaneous activity detected by EMG studies.
RESULTSSFEMG indices were abnormal in all patients with ALS. Mean jitter ranged from 30 to 178 micros (mean 80.2 micros); the percentage of jitter >55 micros ranged from 5% to 100% (mean 60.5%). In addition, the impulse blocking percentage ranged from 0% to 90% (mean 28.1%) and FD ranged from 1.4 to 4.1 (mean 2.6). Mean jitter, the percentage of jitter >55 micros, and the blocking percentage in 57 patients with definite or probable ALS were significantly higher than in patients with possible or suspected ALS. MRC scores of the EDC negatively correlated with mean jitter, the percentage of jitter >55 micros, blocking percentage, and FD.
CONCLUSIONSSFEMG is the most sensitive tool for diagnosing definite or probable ALS. Increased jitter, blocking percentage, and FD can indicate the degree of immature collateral sprouts and motor end plates resulting from the progressive denervation and reinnervation associated with ALS, and may be helpful in evaluating prognosis.
