Serum concentrations of interleukin-6 (IL-6), soluble IL-6 receptor (sIL-6R) were determined in patients with Graves′ ophthalmopathy (GO), Graves′disease without GO (NGO) and controls. Patients with GO treated by corciosteroids were assessed by the clinical activity score (CAS). The results suggested that serum levels of both IL-6, sIL-6R and CAS could reflect the activity of GO and predict the outcome of corcicosteroid therapy.

Objective To observe the effect of curcumin on the expression of smad7 and TGF-β1 in rats renal tubular cells of with Ang II, and discuss the mechanism of curcumin to improve renal interstitial fibrosis.Methods Cultured rat renal tubular epithelial cells were divided into the blank group, the Ang II control group and the low, medium and high dose curcumin group. The rest of the groups were intervened by 10-8 mol/L Ang II except the blank group; the low, medium and high dose groups of curcumin were intervened by 2.5, 5.0, 10.0μmol/L curcumin. Then Western blot was used to detect the expression of TGF-β1 and smad7 protein, RT-PCR was used to detect the TGF-β1 and smad7 mRNA expression.Results Compared with the blank group, the expression of TGF-β1 protein (0.23 ± 0.03vs. 0.16 ± 0.01), and TGF-β1 mRNA (1.89 ± 0.20vs. 1.00 ± 0.00) significantly increasedin AngⅡ control group (P<0.05), and the expression of smad7 protein (0.19 ± 0.03vs. 0.24 ± 0.02), and smad7 mRNA (0.48 ± 0.05vs. 1.00 ± 0.00) significantly reduced in AngⅡcontrol group (P<0.05). Compared with the AngⅡ control group, the expression of TGF-β1 protein in low, medium and high dose curcumingroup (0.18 ± 0.02, 0.17 ± 0.02, 0.16 ± 0.03vs. 0.23 ± 0.03) and TGF-β1 mRNA (1.58 ± 0.11, 1.34 ± 0.16, 0.97 ± 0.19vs. 1.89 ± 0.20) significantly decreased (P<0.05), and the expression of smad7 protein (0.28 ± 0.04, 0.31 ± 0.03, 0.34 ± 0.04vs. 0.19 ± 0.03) and smad7 mRNA (0.68 ± 0.07, 0.80 ± 0.06, 0.98 ± 0.09vs.0.48 ± 0.05) increased significantly (P<0.05).Conclusions Curcumin can thus play its role in renal protection by counteract the AngⅡ mediated renal interstitial fibrosis. Its mechanism may be related to the reduction of TGF-β1 protein and its mRNA expression, up regulation of smad7 protein and its mRNA expression.

Objective To analyze the application of bar code mode in LIS and help select a fit bar code mode for the hospital. Methods The mode of print bar code was chosen on the base of LIS that was programmed with ORACLE database and PowerBuider9.0 so as to manage laboratory information. Results The bar code management in LIS was realized and no- paper thoroughly in hospital. Conclusion The print bar code mode is more suitable for information-based hospital.

Objective To evaluate how proprioception affect ankle stability through comparing angle position awareness and peroneus reaction time between chronic ankle lateral instability patients and healthy controls.Methods A total of 51 participants were recruited into an experimental group of 21 patients with chronic ankle lateral instability (17 males,aged 31.6±2.6) and a control group of 30 healthy counterparts (24 males,aged 34.2±2.3).All the participants were asked to reoccur passive ankle position under the angular velocity at 2 degree per second when they were resting with non-weight bearing in their recruited ankles.The muscle reaction time (MRT)of peroneus longus(PL) and peroneus brevis (PB) in all the recruited ankles was measured during sudden ankle inversion both with and without ankle protective brace wearing.Results The difference between angle recurrence and the target angle (ankle inversion 20° and 30°) was significantly higher (P＜0.05) in the experimental group compared to the control group.The average MRTs of PL and PB were also significantly longer (P＜0.05) in the experimental group than the control group,whether wearing ankle protective braces or not.However,within both groups,no significant differences of PL and PB's MRT were identified between brace wearing and no brace (P＞0.05).Conclusions In patients with chronic lateral ankle instability,the position awareness decreases and the reaction time of peroneus is prolonged.Ankle braces can provide mechanical protection to the injured joints,but cannot promote MRT significantly.

Objective The effect of Asperosaponin Ⅵ(ASAⅥ)on adipocyte differentiation and the involvement of Wnt signal pathway was investigated. Methods The murine bone marrow stromal cell line ST-2 were divided into 6 groups:control group, adipocyte differentiation group, and 4 different doses of ASAⅥgroups. Control group was exposed to the vehicle, adipocyte differentiation group was exposed to adipogenic reagent, and those 4 ASAⅥgroups were treated with different concentration(10-7, 10-6, 10-5, 10-4 mol/L)of ASAⅥafter adipocyte differentiation induction. 5 days later, oil red O staining was performed to calculate adipocyte rate. Then mRNA transcription levels of PPARγ, FABP4 genes andβ-catenin that were Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway proteins were examined by FQ-PCR. Then Wnt pathway inhibitor DKK1 was supplemented into ST-2 cells treated with 10-4 mol/L ASAⅥfor 5 days. After that FQ-PCR was used to detect whether tran?scription levels of PPARγ, FABP4 andβ-catenin in ST-2 cells were changed. Results Compared with adipocyte differenti?ation group 10-5 mol/L and 10-4 mol/L ASAⅥtreatments greatly down-regulated the number of lipid droplets and markedly inhibited transcription levels of adipocyte characterization transcription factors included PPARγ, FABP4 while up-regulat?ed transcription level ofβ-catenin in ST-2 cells. DKK1 can reverse the inhibitory effect of ASAⅥon adipocyte differentia?tion in ST-2 adipocyte. The transcription levels of PPARγand FABP4 were up-regulated significantly while transcription level ofβ-catenin was inhibited. Conclusion ASAⅥblocks adipocyte differentiation in ST-2 cells which might be medi?ated through activating Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.

Objective To explore the clinical features,diagnosis and treatment of serious pyogenic infection in deep neck.Methods The retrospective analysis was taken on clinical data of 49 cases.They were all with the deep neck space infections.Among them,19 cases were revealed with diabetes,and only 7cases had the treatment history of diabetes before.Results After systemic anti-inflammatory and local symptomatic treatment,the mean course of treatment in patients without diabetes was 10.1 days,and in patients with diabetes was 18.1 days.Conclusion For diabetic patients with more severe neck space infection,in the control of blood glucose under the premise of local treatments and systemic therapy were equally important.

Objective To evaluate the value and characteristics of 18F-FDG PET/CT and contrastenhanced CT in pulmonary sclerosing hemangioma (PSH).Methods A retrospective study involving 5 patients confirmed as PSH by pathology from June 2007 to June 2011 was performed.The cases consisted of four women and one man with age ranged from 39 to 66 (mean 51.6) years.All patients received dualphase 18 F-FDG PET/CT,high resolution (HR) CT and multi-phase contrast-enhanced CT (Siemens Biograph 16 PET/CT).Lesion SUVmaon early and delayed PET/CT images,retention index,increased HU value,washout time from peak on contrast-enhanced CT and peritumor vessel sign were studied.Results PSH lesions showed patchy increased 18F-FDG uptake with mean SUVmax on early and delayed PET/CT of 3.3 ± 1.1 and 3.4 ± 1.4,respectively.The mean retention index was (2.1 ± 20.8) ％.The morphological features of PSH on HRCT included findings such as a round/oval nodule or mass with well-defined margins and air meniscus sign.On muhi-phase contrast-enhanced CT,PSH showed moderate to high enhancement (the increased value:35 to 59 HU) with washout times from peak of 140 to 260 s,and 1 to 4 peritumor vessel signs.Conclusions A patchy pattern of high 18F-FDG uptake on PET/CT is suggestive of benign entity.Contrast-enhanced CT findings are very useful to increase the confidence for the diagnosis of PSH.

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic response of transcatheter hepatic arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for primary HCC using 18 F-FDG PET/CT.Methods Twenty-four HCC patients (21males,3 females; age range:40 to 75 years,mean age:58.1 years) with high uptake of 18F-FDG on pretreatment PET/CT and with follow-up 18F-FDG PET/CT 1-2 months post TACE were retrospectively analyzed.A lesion was regarded as positive for HCC if it had higher FDG uptake than the surrounding liver parenchyma.All patients were followed for 3 months by clinical symptoms,AFP and 18F-FDG PET/CT.x2 test was used to analyze the difference between the diagnostic value of 18F-FDG PET/CT and AFP.Results On follow-up 18F-FDG PET/CT,9 patients had lower 18F-FDG uptake than the surrounding liver parenchyma,indicating no residual tumor; while 11 patients with residual tumor showed higher uptake of FDG than the liver background though the uptake was lower than that of baseline PET/CT.Two patients with isometabolic FDG uptake were confirmed of having residual tumor during follow-up.One case showed increased 18F-FDG uptake more than that of baseline,indicating disease progression.One case was false positive for residual tumor due to over attenuation correction in the presence of lipiodol.The sensitivity and accuracy for the detection of residual tumor by 18F-FDG PET/CT and AFP were 100％ (14/14) vs 71.4％ (10/14),and 95.8％(23/24) vs 70.8％(17/24) (x2 =6.56 and 4.18,both P＜0.05),respectively.Conclusion 18F-FDG PET/CT is useful to evaluate the efficacy of TACE for 18F-FDG-avid HCC and it may provide important information for further treatment planning.

Objective To investigate the effect of water-immersion restraint stress(WRS) on nitric oxide(NO) production and its mechanism in rat platelets.Methods Male SD rats underwent WIR stress for 2,4 and 8 hours.Ulcer index(UI) of stomach was chedsed by Guth method,nitrite production was measured by Greiss assay,nitric oxide synthase(NOS) activities and L-arginine transport rate were determined by isotope tracer method.ResultsAfter 2 h WRS,the NO production,the NOS activity and L-arginine transport rate in rat platelets obviously increased and then gradually decreased.After 8 h of WRS,these parameters were decreased as compared with the control group.The gastric ulcer appeared and got more serious after 4 h WIR stress.Conclusion Short-term WRS up-regulates L-arginine /NO pathway and increases nitric oxide production in the platelets but long-term WIR stress has the reversed effect.

Objective To study the effects of lactate peritoneal dialysis solution(L-PDS) with different concentrations on apoptosis of human peritoneal mesothelial cells(HPMC),the expressions of bcl-2,bax and activity of caspase-3.Methods HPMC were separated using enzyme digestion and cultivated stably in vitro.After HPMC were co-cultivated with different concentrations(1.50%,2.50%,4.25%) L-PDS,flow cytometry was used to test the apoptosis of HPMC,RT-PCR was used to observe the expressions of bcl-2 and bax,fluorometric method was used to detect the activity of caspase-3.Results Compared with control group, L-PDS could induce the apoptosis of HPMC,especially in high concentration.With the increasing of L-PDS concentration,the expression of bcl-2 mRNA decreased,the expression of bax mRNA increased,the activity of caspase3 raised.There were significant differences of the indexes mentioned above between 4.25%,2.50% L-PDS groups and control group(P0.05).Conclusion L-PDS could induce HPMC apoptosis,which may be executed by alternating of the expressions of bcl-2,bax and activating of caspase3.
