Journal of Forensic Medicine 2017;33(1):32-35
OBJECTIVES:
To explore the characteristics of schizophrenia patients' homicide behaviors and the influences of the assessments of criminal capacity.
METHODS:
Indicators such as demographic and clinical data, characteristics of criminal behaviors and criminal capacity from the suspects whom were diagnosed by forensic psychiatry as schizophrenia (n=110) and normal mental (n=70) with homicide behavior, were collected by self-made investigation form and compared. The influences of the assessments of criminal capacity on the suspects diagnosed as schizophrenia were also analyzed using logistic regression analysis.
RESULTS:
There were no significant statistical differences between the schizophrenic group and the normal mental group concerning age, gender, education and marital status (P>0.05). There were significant statistical differences between the two groups concerning thought disorder, emotion state and social function before crime (P<0.05) and there were significant statistical differences in some characteristics of the case such as aggressive history (P<0.05), cue, trigger, plan, criminal incentives, object of crime, circumstance cognition and self-protection (P<0.05). Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that thought disorder, emotion state, social function, criminal incentives, plan and self-protection before crime of the schizophrenic group were positively correlated with the criminal capacity (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
The relevant influences of psychopathology and crime characteristics should be considered comprehensively for improving the accuracy of the criminal capacity evaluation on the suspects diagnosed as schizophrenia with homicide behavior.

OBJECTIVE:
To analyze the difference between the cognitive and control ability and the responsibility in forensic psychiatry evaluation.
METHODS:
To compare the results of the responsibility evaluation from 2001.1 to 2006.10 (the first period) with that of the cognitive and control ability evaluation from 2006.11 to 2010.10 (the second period). The admissibility opinions on court judgment and evaluation were investigated by return visit. The legal professions' opinions on forensic psychiatric issues from the police office, the procuratorate, the court, and the judiciary were investigated.
RESULTS:
There was no significant difference of the criminal types between two periods (P > 0.05). There was significant difference of the diagnostic types between two periods (P < 0.05). The proportion of normal range and part loss of the cognitive and control ability in the second period were higher than that in the first period, but the proportion of complete loss of the cognitive and control ability in the second period was lower than that in the first period (P < 0.05). Among the legal professions, 70.5% of them thought that "the evaluation of cognitive and control ability" was different from "the evaluation of criminal responsibility" and 94.9% of them thought that "to confirm the influence of the forensic psychiatric evaluation of mental disorder on the crime behavior" or "to assess of cognitive and control ability" met requirements of normative judicial expertise.
CONCLUSION
The evaluation of cognitive and control ability is more aligned with legal requirements and behavioral norms of own subject than the evaluation of responsibility.

Chinese Journal of Medical Genetics 2012;29(4):468-473
OBJECTIVETo establish an adolescent violence crime prediction model, and to assess the value of serotonin transporter (5-HTT) gene polymorphism for the assessment and prediction of violent crime.
METHODSInvestigative tools were used to analyze the difference in personality dimensions, social support, coping styles, aggressiveness, impulsivity, and family condition scale between 223 adolescents with violence behavior and 148 adolescents without violence behavior. The distribution of 5-HTT gene polymorphisms (5-HTTLPR and 5-HTTVNTR) was compared between the two groups. The role of 5-HTT gene polymorphism on adolescent personality, impulsion and aggression scale also was also analyzed. Stepwise logistic regression was used to establish a predictive model for adolescent violent crime.
RESULTSSignificant difference was found between the violence group and the control group on multiple dimensions of psychology and environment scales. However, no statistical difference was found with regard to the 5-HTT genotypes and alleles between adolescents with violent behaviors and normal controls. The rate of prediction accuracy was not significantly improved when 5-HTT gene polymorphism was taken into the model.
CONCLUSIONThe violent crime of adolescents was closely related with social and environmental factors. No association was found between 5-HTT polymorphisms and adolescent violence criminal behavior.

6.A cultural psychiatric study on tattoos of young Korean males.
Yonsei Medical Journal 1991;32(3):255-262
In 2, 178 tattooed male conscripts in ages of 19-24 years, the most frequent tattoo was a heart mark or a mark of heart and arrow. The Chinese characters which mean "one mind," eagles, dragons, some of 12 zodiacal animals, flowers, and flowers and butterflies or birds were also frequent. The ten Korean symbols of long life and symbols which have been traditionally believed as having evil-repelling powers, for example, blue dragon or white tiger were also found. The frequency of images were different between the provinces with different historical and cultural backgrounds. Data was obtained through interviews with 781 tattooed males. Analysis of the data revealed the following. The prevalence of tattooing was 5.6%. The most prevailing motivation to having tattoos was a contemporary group craze or fashion. Of the 781 tattooed men, 62% had tattoos on their forearms, 34.2% had self-injured scars on their bodies, and 18.6% had criminal convictions. The results of MMPI showed high scores in items of psychopathic deviate and schizophrenia. This suggests that those with tattoos were impulsive, hostile and were prone to delinquent behavior. These results indicate that selection of the image to be tattooed is heavily influenced by inner needs and the cultural background of individuals.

Journal of Forensic Medicine 2019;35(5):586-591
Objective To discuss the related factors influencing the initiation time of forensic psychiatric assessment by analysis of the initiation time of forensic psychiatric assessment of criminal cases in Hunan Province. Methods Related data in assessment files of criminal cases accepted by 8 forensic psychiatric assessment institutions in Hunan Province from January 1, 2011 to December 31, 2016 were extracted. The Logistic regression analysis was used to explore the factors influencing the initiation time of forensic psychiatric assessment. After using property score matching (PSM) to control the influence of confounding factors, the efficiency of public security organs to initiate assessments of suspects with (without) mental disorders and with (without) responsibilities were compared. Results A total of 4 346 cases were included. The Logistic regression analysis suggested that the factors independently related to the initiation time of assessment include: cause of assessment, nationality of the assessed, history of diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses, history of crimes, history of drug abuse, and status of alcohol consumption before the crime (all P<0.05). The initiation time of assessment of suspects diagnosed with mental disorder was shorter than those with none (P<0.05); the initiation time of assessment of suspects without criminal responsibility was shorter than those with responsibility (P<0.05). After using PSM to control confounding factors, the differences above still existed. Conclusion The cause of assessment, nationality of the assessed, history of diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses, history of crimes, history of drug abuse, and status of alcohol consumption before the crime are factors that influence the efficiency of public security organs to initiate forensic psychiatric assessments. Under the current assessment initiation mode, forensic psychiatric assessment of suspects who have mental disorders, especially those with no responsibility may be given priority to initiate.

9.Health as Expanding Consciousness: Based on the Experiences of Victims of Sexual Violence.
Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 2004;34(6):913-923
PURPOSE: This study was to explore health experiences of victims of sexual violence reflected in Newman's health as expanding consciousness theory. METHOD: Nurse as researcher use Newman's praxis methodology because it is good for showing the process of interaction between researcher and sexual abuse victims. RESULTS: The significant characteristics of early health experiences during negative situations were a lot of suffering. However, after a turning point in health experience, the health experiences of most of the participants evolved as expanding consciousness. CONCLUSION: The study has provided support for Newman's theory of health. Most of the participants recognised meanings in their patterns and trustful caring relationships with the nurse as researcher. Pattern recognition as a nursing practice was a meaningful transforming process in the participant-nurse partnership.

Biomedical and Environmental Sciences 2010;23(2):108-112
OBJECTIVETo examine relationships between weight status and different forms of bullying victimization among adolescents aged 11-18 years.
METHODSThe relationships between weight status and bullying victimization (physical, verbal, and relational) were examined utilizing data from the Guangdong Provincial Youth Health Behavior Survey. Data on height, weight, and victimization behaviors were collected by self-reporting from 12 439 subjects. , test and logistic regression were used to analyze relationships between weight and bullying victimization.
RESULTSThe incidence of victimization for adolescents aged 11-18 years was 8.6%, with higher rates for boys (12.4%) than for girls (4.7%). For children with normal, overweight and obese body mass index (BMI), the incidence rates of victimization were 8.2%, 17.3%, and 11.5%, respectively. Compared to normal weight, overweight was a risk factor for bullying victimization(OR = 1.60, 95% CI: 1.18-2.17), and it also increased children's risk of being teased in a hurtful way (OR = 2.13, 95% CI: 1.41-3.24) and being made fun of due to physical appearance (OR = 3.58, 95% CI: 2.27-5.67). Obesity only increased the risk for children of being made fun of due to physical appearance (OR = 2.45, 95% CI: 1.44-4.15).
CONCLUSIONSThe victimization for children at school is common in Guangdong province, China. Overweight and obese children are more likely to be victims of bullying behaviors, especially verbal victimization.
