BACKGROUND:Liver fibrosis is a kind of chronic and active disease that is caused by various causes and characterized by the excessive accumulation of extracelular matrix. At present, use of Chinese herbs for the treatment of hepatic fibrosis has obvious advantages. Salvia miltiorrhiza has been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of hepatic fibrosis. However, the underlying mechanism needs further investigation. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of TanshinoneⅡA on the expression levels of transforming growth factor-β/Smads signaling pathway related factors transforming growth factor-β, bone morphogenetic protein 7, Smad6 and Smad7 in the liver tissue of rats with hepatic fibrosis. METHODS:SD rats were randomly divided into three groups (n = 10): normal control, model and TanshinoneⅡA-treated groups. Rats in the model and TanshinoneⅡA-treated groups were subtaneously injected with olive oil-diluted 10% CCl4 ( 5 mL/kg) twice a week, 8 weeks in total, to build rat models of hepatic fibrosis. Four weeks after hepatic fibgrosis induction, rats in the TanshinoneⅡA-treated group received subtaneous injection of TanshinoneⅡA til eight weeks. Rats in the normal control group were subcutaneously injected with olive oil. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Western blotting and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) detection showed that in the model group, the expression of transforming growth factor-β in the rat liver tissue was significantly increased (P < 0.01) and the expression of bone morphogenetic protein-7, Smad6 and Smad7 was significantly decreased (P < 0.01) compared with the normal control group. TanshinoneⅡA could obviously reverse the expression of those factors above-mentioned (P < 0.01). The results suggest that TanshinoneⅡA can be used for treatment of hepatic fibrosis by decreasing the expression of transforming growth factor-β and increasing the expression of bone morphogenetic protein-7, Smad6 and Smad7.

"Vessels Collateral Theory", as the inherit and development of "blood vessels" in Huangdi Neijing, is a systematic system by integrating severe vascular diseases. In this article, by taking cardiovascular diseases (CVD) as a cut-in point, roles of "minute collateral-microvascular" lesions in the occurrence and development of CVD were further explored. The interventional effect of collateral-unblocking medicines under the guidance of Vessels Collateral Theory was also in-depth explored, hoping to leading Chinese medical prevention and treatment of CVD.

Objective To explore the clinical results of the arthroscopic acromioplasty in the rotator cuff repair. Methods Sixty-five patients (42 males and 23 females) to receive suture bridge repair under the arthroscopy between May 2012 and May 2014 were selected and randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group was given suture bridge repair with acromioplasty, while the control group underwent the suture bridge repair without acromioplasty. The time of operation was recorded. The range of motion (ROM) of the shoulder, the UCLA shoulder scoring system (ULCA) score,American orthopedic surgeon scoring system (ASES) score, the visual analogue scale (VAS) score and Constant score were observed 3 and 12 months after the operation. Results There were no significant differences in age,sex and the affected side between the two groups.Significant differences were found between the two groups in the duration of the operation (t=-18.5,P<0.05).There were no significant differences in the ROM and the ULCA,ASES,VAS and constant scores of the shoulder 3 and 12 months after the operation. Conclusion No significant differences were found in the ROM and the shoulder function scoring between giving acromioplasty under the arthroscopy or not. However, the operation time of undergoing acromioplasty under the arthroscopy was longer.

Aim To study the effect of Tongxinluo on the polarization of macrophages to type M2 and M1, and on Notch signaling pathway. Methods THP-1 was respectively induced by PMA and IL-4 or LPS to M2 and M1 type polarized macrophages, and treated by Tongxinluo. The expressions of marker molecules IL-10, TNF-α, IL-6 and protein of Notch signaling pathway were detected. Results The level of IL-10 increased in M2 group and there was no statistical difference on the level of IL-6 and TNF-α;the level of IL-10 decreased and IL-6, TNF-α increased in M1 group;the level of IL-10 increased and IL-6,TNF-α decreased in TXL group. There was no statistical difference in the expression of active Notch-1, DLL4 and Hes-1 between control group and M2 group;the expression of active Notch-1, DLL4 and HES-1 increased significantly in M1 group;the expression of active Notch-1, DLL4 and HES-1 decreased significantly in TXL group;there was no significant difference in the expression of Notch-1 protein in each group. Conclusion The polarization of macrophages to M1 type can be inhibited by Tongxinluo, and its mechanism may be related to the inhibition of activation of Notch-1 signaling pathway.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the clinical application of the ureteral dilation catheter combined with the balloon catheter under the ureteroscope in the treatment of urethral stricture in men.
METHODSUnder the ureteroscope, 45 male patients with urethral stricture received placement of a zebra guide wire through the strictured urethra into the bladder and then a ureteral dilation catheter along the guide wire, followed by dilation of the urethra from F8 initially to F14 and F16. Again, the ureteroscope was used to determine the length of the strictured urethra, its distance to the external urethral orifice, and whether it was normally located. An F24 balloon catheter and then a metal urethral calibrator was used for the dilation of the strictured urethra. After removal of the F18-F22 urethral catheter at 8 weeks, the urinary flow rate was measured immediately and again at 3 months.
RESULTSAll the operations were successfully performed without serious complications. The maximum urinary flow rate was (13.3-29.9) ml/s (mean [17.7 ± 3.2] ml/s) at the removal of the catheter and (15.2-30.8) ml/s (mean [19.8 ± 3.9] ml/s) at 3 months after it. Smooth urination was found in all the patients during the 6-24 months follow-up.
CONCLUSIONThe application of the ureteral dilation catheter combined with, the balloon catheter under the ureteroscope is a good option for the treatment of male urethral stricture for its advantages of uncomplicatedness, safety, effectiveness, few complications, less pain, high success rate, and repeatable operation.

Objective To explore the influence of tranSCription factor FOXC2 in angiogenesis of breast cancer MCF-7 cells and to clarify the action mechanism of FOXC2 in promoting tumor angiogenesis. Methods FOXC2 gene and empty vector gene were transfected into breast cancer of MCF-7 cell line with FOXC2 lentivirus gene transfection technique to obtain stable transfection cell line. The MCF-7 cells were devided into non-transfected group,empty-vector group and over-expression group.Matrigel assay and Transwell chamber test were used to observe the changes of tube formation and migration ability of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs)in MCF-7 cells supernatant in various groups. PT-PCR and Western blotting methods were applied to detect the expressions of FOXC2,DLL4 and Notch1 mRNA and protein. Results Compared with non-tranfected group and empty-vector group, the tube formation and the migration number of HUVECs in FOXC2 over-expression group were increased(P<0.05);the expressions of FOXC2,DLL4 and Notch1 mRNA and proteins were significantly increased(P<0.05).Conclusion The FOXC2 over-expression in MCF-7 cells can increase the tube formation ability and migration ability of HUVECs,and its mechanism may be related to Notch signaling pathway.
