OBJECTIVETo study the therapeutic efficacy of manipulative reduction and percutaneous pin fixation for the treatment of severely displaced distal tibial fractures in children.
METHODSFrom May 2009 to December 2012,56 children with severely displaced distal tibial fractures were analyzed, who had been treated with manipulative reduction and percutaneous pin fixation. Preoperative fractures were confirmed as severely displaced fractures by X-ray apparatus. There were 33 boys and 23 girls, ranging in age from 3 to 14 years, with an average of 10.1 years. All the fractures were closed without vascular or nerve injuries. According to the bone fracture type, under C-arm fluoroscopy, functional reduction was achieved by manipulative reduction. The fractures were fixed with percutaneous pins. Postoperative X-ray confirmed the functional reduction. Follow-up indexes were recorded: intra-operative and postoperative complications, postoperative radiographic examination, lower extremity length and range of ankle motion. Ankle score system of Teeny was used to evaluate ankle function.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 3 to 46 months, with an average duration of 19.4 months. According to the Teeny score standard, 35 patients got an excellent result, 7 good and 3 fair. Pin track reaction was found in 4 cases. The X-ray showed all the fractures healed without shortening deformity or epiphyseal arrest at early stage. All the patients could participate in the normal physical activities, having a normal range of motion and excellent strength of the ankle joint.
CONCLUSIONThe method of manipulative reduction and percutaneous pin fixation is a safe and convenient treatment for severely displaced distal tibial fractures in children. It has several advantages as follow: micro-trauma, tiny tissue damage, firm fixation, and the patients can exercise the function of ankle early, suggesting that it is an effective treatment method.

OBJECTIVETo compare efficacy of unilateral external fixators and locking compression plates in treating type C fractures of the distal radius.
METHODSFrom January 2009 to June 2010, 76 patients with distal radius fracture were treated with LCP and external fixators, 54 patients were followed up. Among them, 29 cases were male and 25 cases were female with an average age of 45.31 (ranged, 24 to 68) years old. There were 29 patients in LCP group. According to AO classification, 8 cases were type C1, 7 cases were type C2 and 14 cases were type C3. There were 25 cases in external fixators group. According to AO classification, 6 cases were type C1, 8 cases were type C2 and 11 cases were type C3. Radial height, volar tilt and radial inclination were compared, advanced Gartland-Werley scoring were used to assessed wrist joint function after 6 and 12 months' following up.
RESULTSTwo cases were suffered from nail infection in external fixators group. Fifty-four patients were followed up from 12 to 24 months with an average of 21.3 months. Radial height was (9.60 +/- 0.72) mm, volar tilt was (9.55 +/- 0.80) degrees and radial inclination was (21.40 +/- 0.78) degrees in LCP group, while those were (9.40 +/- 0.70) mm, (9.47 +/- 0.71) degrees and (21.20 +/- 0.73) degrees in external fixtors group, and with no statistical significance (P>0.05). Advanced Gartland-Werley score after 6 months' following up was 3.31 +/- 1.17 in LCP group, 5.56 +/- 1.58 in external fixtors group, and with significant difference (t=-5.99,P<0.05); after 12 months' following up, advanced Gartland-Werley score was respectively 2.66 +/- 1.01 and 3.08 +/- 1.00, but with no statistical meaning (t=-1.55, P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONLCP and external fixtors can receive good curative effects in treating type C distal radius fracture, and LCP can obtain obviously short-term efficacy, while there is no significant difference between two groups in long-term results. For serious distal radius comminuted fracture which unable to plate internal fixation, external fixators is a better choice.

Microbiology 1992;0(05):-
60 Candida strains were analyzed with randomly amplified polymorphic DNA(RAPD) from HIV-infected patients' oral cavity. The results showed that RAPD-PCR fingerprinting appeared from zero to five bands whose size rang from 300 bp to 2 kb with P2 primer,Candida albicans have three characteristic bands of 300 bp,400 bp and 600 bp in size,non-Candida albicans have the similar bands. They can be clas-sified five genetic clusters and 14 genotypes by Cluster Analysis, two Candida albicans(P385&P403) with fluorocytosine-resistance were classified into C1 genotype for "Squared Euclidean Distance" being 0.115,one Candida albicans(P321) and one Candida glabrata(P522) who were resistant against Amphotericin B were classified into D1 genotype for "Squared Euclidean Distance" being 0.221.So,an abundant genetic polymorphism appeared in Candida species related HIV,RAPD could be as a reference for genotype of Candida albicans;different Candida speices had some special bands, different Candida strains had similar bands in the same species;it is perhaps that some genotypes were relevant to drug resistance.

A hydrophobic low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) adsorbent was synthesized with lauric acid and chitosan. The condition for adsorption was obtained by investigating the influence of adsorbent amount and adsorption time. The results of adsorption in vitro showed that the average adsorption rates for total cholesterol (TC), LDL-C, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and total protein (TP) were 47.7%, 84.7%, 18.1% and 5.9% respectively. The adsorbent possesses good selectivity in removing LDL-C.

Chinese Journal of Biotechnology 2004;20(1):16-20
Metabolic engineering provide powerful tools for the systematic manipulation of cellular metabolic activities. The ptsG gene for glucose-specific transporter Enzyme II CBGlc of the phosphotransferase system was knock-out so as to reduce the accumulation of acetic acid in the high cell-density culture of Escherichia coli on excess glucose. The chloramphenicol-resistant cassette with short shared sequences on both ends generated by PCR was electroporated into Escherichia coli DH5alpha and JM109. Recombination between linear DNA cassettes and Escherichia coli chromosomes took place by Red recombinase functions. Therefore, the ptsG gene was disrupted to construct the mutants called DH5alphaP and JM109P. There was no difference between the mutants and parent strains in LB media. However, in LB media supplemented with glucose, the mutants of Escherichia coli deficient in ptsG showed greater biomass, together with exploiting more glucose. The maximal cell density obtained with DH5alphaP was approximately 3 times more than that of DH5alpha, then the result of JM109P increased fourfold. The products of recombinant protein TNF respectively accounted for 24.3% of total cellular protein in DH5alphaP with A600 8.28 and 20.8% of total cellular protein in JM109P with A600 7.62. The specific volume expression amount of TNF was greater in the ptsG mutant than in its parent strain. These results demonstrate that the ptsG-mutant strains will be available for high cell-density culture.

OBJECTIVETo compare clinical effect of T-shaped locking internal fixation and external fixation in treating dorsal Barton's fracture, and investigate selective strategy of internal fixation.
METHODSFrom January 2008 to January 2013, 100 patients with dorsal Barton's fracture were randomly divided into two groups. In treatment group, there were 30 males and 20 females with an average age of (33.8±3.6) years old;30 cases were type B, 20 cases were type C;and treated with T-shaped locking internal fixation. In control group, there were 32 male and 18 females with an average age of (32.9±3.4) years old; 29 cases were type B, 21 cases were type C; and treated with external fixation. Volar tilt, ulnar deviation and radial height at 3 months after operation were detected and compared between two groups. Mechara functional evaluation were used to evaluate postoperative clinical effects. Clinical cure time, postoperative complications, joint mobility and function score were recorded and compared between two groups.
RESULTSIn treatment group, volar tilt was (11.9±2.7)°, ulnar deviation was (20.8+ 2.9)°,and radial height was (10.9±1.8) mm; while volar tilt was (9.1±1.6)°, ulnar deviation was (17.1±2.9)°, and radial height was (8.1±1.5) mm in control group. Treatment group was better than control group in volar tilt, ulnar deviation and radial height. Clinical cure time in treatment group was(12.0±2.3) weeks, shorter than control group (18.0±4.1) weeks. The incidence of complications in treatment group was lower than control group. According to Mehara functional evaluation,20 cases got excellent results, 25 good, 3 moderate and 2 poor in treatment group; 16 cases got excellent results, 14 good, 10 moderate and 10 poor in control group. Treatment group was better than control group in clinical effects.
CONCLUSIONT-shaped locking internal fixation with postoperative functional exercise for the treatment of dorsal Barton's fracture fits for biomechanics demands, and has advantages of stable fixation, rapid recovery, less complications and good functional recovery, it has better clinical effects.

Objective To optimize the concentration of polyethylene glycol (PEG) for the growth of Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) reference strains D-UW-5/Cx and E-UW-5/Cx,and to evaluate the effects of PEG on the sensitivity of Ct to 4 common antibiotics. Methods After the inoculation of Ct standard strains (D-UW-5/Cx and E-UW-5/Cx) into McCoy cell monolayer, different concentrations of PEG were added into the culture medium followed by centrifugation. After 2 hours of incubation at 37 ℃,the inoculum was removed and a complete culture medium containing 1 μg/mL cycloheximide was added followed by another 48-hour culture.Subsequently, the culture was fixed and subjected to iodine staining for the calculation of Ct inclusions and optimization of PEG for the growth of Ct.Some Ct standard strains were used to infect McCoy cells, with PEG (0.7%,wt/vol) added to the culture medium after inoculation and before centrifugation process, and when the infection rate reached higher than 90%,a microdilution method was utilized to evaluate the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 4 antibiotics, including azithromycin, minocyline, moxifloxacin and doxycycline.Thirty-one clinical specimens, which had been confirmed to be positive for Ct serovar D or E strain, were inoculated into McCoy cell monolayer for the passage of Ct with or without the presence of 0.7% PEG.Results The optimal concentration of PEG was 0.7% for the growth of Ct,and this concentration of PEG could increase the number of inclusion bodies of Ct serovar E by 3.44 folds, and that of Ct serovar D by 3.56 folds. In vitro, the MICs of the 4 antibiotics were consistent between PEG-treated and untreated Ct reference strains. Moreover,PEG notably increased the quantity of inclusion bodies of Ct serovar E or D from clinical specimens after passages. Conclusions PEG (0.7%) can enhance the growth of Ct serovar D and E,but has no obvious influence on antimicrobial susceptibility of Ct.
