1.Five percent potassium hydroxide for the treatment of anogenital warts: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Potassium hydroxide (KOH) is effective and safe as treatment of viral dermatoses. No systematic review has been done reporting its efficacy as a treatment for anogenital warts.
METHODS: A systematic literature search for controlled clinical trials using KOH, any drug or ablative procedure measuring the clearance rate was conducted. Analysis was done using RevMan v5.3 software.
RESULTS: Four low quality trials, composed of 197 patients were included but only two qualified for meta-analysis. Two studies compared KOH to cryotherapy while the two other trials compared KOH to intralesional 5-fluorouracil (FU) + salicylic acid (SA) and carbon dioxide (CO2) laser vaporization. The KOH group showed a higher clearance rate compared to cryotherapy (RR= 1.40, P> 0.05, I2=39 %) and no recurrence was noted (RR= 0.17, P> 0.05, I2=0) but the difference is not statistically significant. Isik et al., 2014 and Asadi et al., demonstrated that there was no significant difference among groups receiving KOH, 5-FU+SA and CO2 laser vaporization in the mean lesion count and size at follow up visits. (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONS: Potassium hydroxide has comparable efficacy to the present treatment modalities but well-structured RCTs are needed to further support its use.

5.Detection of Human Papillomaviruses DNA in Genital Wart - like Lesions.

In situ hybridization using biotinylated HPV(Human papillomaviruses) probes was performed to detect HPV DNA in 24 patients with genital wart-like lesions. The lesions were divided into two groups, with or without dysplastic changes histologically. We could detect HPV6/11 in 13 of 17 lesions(76.5%) without dysplastic changes. HPU16/18 was detected in a case with dysplastic changes. HPV6/ll was also detected in a case considered to be misdiagnosed as bowenoid papulosis. Oncogenic HPV such as HPV16/18 was found in one of histologically splastic lesions(14.3%).

6.Detection of Human Papillomavirus DNA in Condylomata Acuminata Patients using Molecular Hybridization.

Condylomata acuminata are benign tumors which are mostly venereally transmitted. Common sites were coronal sulcus, perisnal area and prepuce. Among 28 patients, 21 acuminate lesions and 10 papular lesions were found. Twenty eight human genital warts in Korean were analysed by Southern blot hybridization. Sequences related to HPV6/11 are found in 89.3%(25/28) of the condylomata. HPV16 DNA was not found at sll. Subtype of HPV was determined by the restriction pattern of DNA cleaved with PstI restriction enzyme in 7 cases. Six cases of HPV6a and one case of HPV6c are found. The above results suggest that most of condylomata acuminata are caused by HPV6 and HPV11 in Korea.

Summary
Secondary syphilis is a rare infectious sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum in
present era. It affects skin as well as other organs of the body. We hereby present a case of an adult
male who presented with a one-month history of multiple brownish red maculopapular lesions all over
the skin of the body involving the palms, soles, oral cavity and genitalia. His serology was positive
for HIV, VDRL and TPHA with a low CD4 count. The patient was treated with three weekly doses of
parenteral Benzathine penicillin G, antiretroviral therapy and podophyllin for condyloma acuminata
to which he responded well.

8.Condyloma Acuminata in a Child.

Condyloma acuminatum is a rare pediatric entity but its incidence is believed to be increasing in the pediatric population as well as in adults. The most commonly suspected etiology is sexual abuse, although congenital infection and contagious infection are known to occur. So, thorough medical and social evaluation is essential for protection and management of this disease in children. We report a case of condylomata acuminata occurred in 10 year old child's glans.

9.Detection of human papillomavirus DNA in genital warts showing atypical manifestations.

In situ hybridization using radioactively labeled(S) and nonradioactively labeled probes was performed to detect HPV DNA and to compare the sensitivity of two probes in 17 patients with genital warts showing atypical manifestations. HPV 6/ll was found in 100%(3/3) of the flat type, 50%(2/4) of the pigmented type and 66.7%(2/3) of the flat and pigmented type (except bowenoid papulosis) and 66.7%(2/3) of the large extensive type. However HPV 16/18 was not found at all. In bowenaid papulosis, HPV 16/18 was detected in 25% (1/4) of the cases but HPV 6/11 was negative in all cases. There was no significant difference between the sensitivity of radioactiue and nonradioactive probes. HPV 6/11 was positive in the giant condyloma acuminata complicated with squamous cell carcinoma.

10.Detection of Genital Human Papilloma Viruses Using PCR.

Fifteen cases of genital warts were examined for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) using polymerise chain reaction (PCR). HPV6/11 DNA were found in all cases of genital warts. The PCR based methods described here provide a sensitive, accurate means of detecting genital HPVs.
