Carcinosarcoma of the colon is rare. Seventeen cases have been reported in the English literature. Most cases occurred in the left side of the colon. Indeed, there is only one reported case of cecal carcinosarcoma. Carcinosarcoma has a tendency to distantly metastasize and shows dismal prognosis. We report a case of carcinosarcoma in the cecum and review the literature describing colonic carcinosarcoma.

A colon lipoma is a remarkably rare tumor. In most cases, the tumors are asymptomatic and small in size, need to be differentiated from malignant tumors, and do not need any special treatment. Selection of the right surgical strategy depends on the status of bowel, as well as the size and the location of tumor. We encountered two patients with giant submucosal lipomas that had induced intussusceptions: one with a lipoma in the transverse colon and the other with a lipoma in the ascending colon. The diagnoses were made by using histological examinations. We report the clinical features, diagnoses, and treatments of, as well as our experience with, these two uncommon cases, and we present a review of the literature on this subject.

1. The plain abdominal films of 246 cases of intussusception preceding hydrostatic barium enema were analysedin order to reassess the diagnostic reliability of the abdominal plain film examination. Then, these were comparedwith 42 cases in which the diagnosis had been rejected by means of barium enema. 2. It was found that diagnosis ofthe intussusception was possible in 80% of 246 cases on the basis of plain film findings alone. 3. The most commonand reliable findings of intussusception in plain film diagnosis are those of sparse faecoloid bowel content andsparse amount of intestinal gas. 4. The loops of distended small bowel in cecal or ascending colon area andintraabdominal soft tissue mass are considered to be relatively reliable findings. 5. In 42 cases in which thediagnosis had been rejected by means of barium enema, intussusception was excluded in 745 of the cases on thebasis of plain film findings alone.

Colitis cystica profunda is a benign disorder in which a mucous cyst is located in the submucosal layer of, primarily, the pelvic colon and rectum. Radiologic reports of the condition are rare. We report the radiological findings of a case of colitis cystica profunda arising from the proximal ascending colon near the ileocecal valve, and causing intussusception. We also review the literature.

A diverticulum is a blind pouch communicating with the gut. The term "diverticulitis" indicates inflammation of a diverticulum or diverticula, which is commonly accompanied by gross or microscopic perforation. Acute diverticuitis is a rare disorder in early childhood. Itis difficult to diagnose acute right colon diverticulitis from common causes of RLQ pain. We report a case of acute diverticulitis in the right colon in a 6-year-old girl. She complained of typical RLQ pain mimicking acute appendicitis,but was diagnosed with acute diverticulitis by CT scanning. Conservative treatment failed because of peritonitis due to perforation of an inflamed diverticulum. After the diverticulcetomy, the symptoms resolved.
