Objective: To study the effect of Anoectochilus roxburghii on the oxidation of lipoprotein. Methods: The effects of Anoectochilus roxburghii on low density lipoprotein(LDL) oxidative modification were assessed by the formation of conjugated dienes,thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance(TBARS) and the relative electrophoretic migration. Results: The addition of Anoectochilus roxburghii(1 ?l/ml) to the reaction mixture prolonged the lag phase by 1.5 times [from(8.8?0.4)min to(13.0?0.8)min].Anoectochilus roxburghii reduced LDL oxidative susceptibility in a dose dependent manner.In addition,Anoectochilus roxburghii resulted in a significant,dose dependent,reduction of TBARS contents and the decrease in LDL electrophoretic migration as compared to the control. Conclusion: These results indicated that Anoectochilus roxburghii has effective antioxidative capacity by reducing oxidative susceptibility and peroxidation degree of LDL.

The reduced level of high density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma is a strong predictor of atherosclerotic vascular disease risk. However, like low density lipoprotein (LDL), HDL is readily oxidized by a variety of oxidants in vitro . This review briefly discussed about the susceptibility of HDL to oxidation, the site and physiologic oxidants of HDL oxidation in vivo ,structural change in oxidized HDL, as well as the influence of different changes in structure of oxidized HDL on the protective function of HDL against atherosclerosis.

MicroRNAs ( miRNAs) are a kinds of small non-coding RNA that regulate the expression of gene at the posttran-scriptional level and play important roles in a variety of physiological and pathological processes such as proliferation , differentiation and apoptosis.Recently, it has been reported that miRNAs expression abnormalities are closely associated with the initiation and devel -opment of glioma .Moreover , the expression levels of some miRNA are specifically involved in the molecular pathogenesis of glioma , revealing their great potential as a class of novel biomarkers for cancers and therapeutic targets .In this review , we summarizes the lat-est researches on miRNA and glioma .

Cholesteryl ester transfer protein(CETP) plays an important role in the transfer and exchange of cholesteryl esters,phospholipid and triacyglycerols.It affects lipid composition,concentration,particle size and function of lipoproteins, partcipating in the development of atherosclerosis.The role of CETP in human atherosclerosis has not been fully elucidated.Gene variations of the CETP were associated with altered CETP plasma levels and activity,lipid metabolism disorder.The relationships between CETP gene variation,lipid parameters and cardiovascular risk was reviewed.

Morinda citrifolia L.(noni) has been used as a folk remedy for thousands of years and reported to have a broad range of therapeutic effects.Recent studies of noni have indentified some of its useful pharmacologic compounds and indicated its anti-cancer and anti-oxidation mechanisms.The recent advances in noni researches are reviewed.

Some immunosuppressants influence the synthesis and metabolism of lipids,which is a major factor for hyperlipidemia in organ transplant patients.The recent studies on the relationship between immunosuppressants and hyperlipidemia are reviewed.

Objective To investigate the expression level of serum miR-193a-3p,miR-337-5p and miR-483-5p in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) patients and to explore their value for diagnosis and prognosis of ESCC.Methods Serum samples were collected from 63 ESCC patients before and after surgery in Nanjing General Hospital and Xuzhou Cancer Hospital between June 2013 and May 2014 and serum sanples of 63 age-and sex-matched healthy individuals acted as the normal controls.TaqMan Low Density Assay was used to detect the deregulated miRNA in ESCC patients and then quantitative real-time PCR was used to validate the upregulated miRNA miR-193a-3p,miR-337-5p and previously reported miR483-5p that was upregulated in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC).Finally,the three miRNA were evaluated for their clinical value in the diagnosis and predicting prognosis of ESCC.Results Compared with normal controls,serum levels of miR193a-3p,miR-337-5p and miR-483-5p in ESCC patients were significantly up-regulated (0.459±0.339 vs 0.195±0.084,U =591;5.686±5.211 vs 2.476±0.808,U=605;32.545 ± 22.479 vs 19.509±10.601,U=1 037,respectively,all P＜ 0.0001) and their levels were significantly reduced after the surgical treatment (P＜0.05).The areas under the ROC curve of serum miR-193a-3p,miR-337-5p,miR-483-5p and miR-Panel were all larger than that of CEA.Univariate Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed that ESCC patients with low expression level of miR-483-5p in postoperative serum exhibited higher survival rate than those with high level(P=0.022).Conclusion Serum miR-193a-3p,miR-337-5p and miR-483-5p can be potential molecular biomarkers in the diagnosis and predicting prognosis of ESCC.

Human serum paraoxonase (PON1) is a high density lipoprotein (HDL)associated enzyme capable of hydrolyzing lipid peroxides in vitro .PON1 has recently attracted attetion as a key factor against oxidative modification of LDL by involving in degradation of oxidized phospholipid and may therefore play an important role on the prevention of the atherosclerotic process of HDL.The concentration and activity of PON1 have been shown to be associated with the risk of atherosclerosis.In addition,the genetic polymorphisms of PON1 have been proposed as a genetic marker of risk for coronary artery disease.The measurement of the genetic polymorphisms of PON1 may be helpful in the prevention of coronary artery disease.

Objective:To investigate the possible interaction of Lp(a), and Lp(a) circulating immune complexes (CIC) 〔Lp(a)-CIC〕 level with triglyceride (TG). Methods:Plasma Lp(a), Lp(a)-CIC and LDL-CIC levels were determined by ELISAs in 232 patients with various dyslipidaemias, respectively. Results:Hypertriglyceridaemic patients exhibited the lowest plasma Lp(a) levels, while hypercholesterolaemic patients exhibited the highest. Patients with mixed hyperlipidaemia had intermediate serum Lp(a) concentrations, which were significantly lower than those in the controls. Interestingly, we also found that hypertriglyceridaemic patients exhibited the lowest plasma Lp(a)-CIC and LDL-CIC levels, while hypercholesterolaemic patients exhibited the highest. Objective: For preparing the reference material of alkaline phosphatase(ALP), the purification and properties of ALP from porcine kidney were studied. Methods: The ALP purification procedure included isolation microvillus of porcine kidney cortices by solubilization the membrance-binding enzymes with 1-butanol, precipitation with ammonium sulfate, chromatography on DEAE-Sephacel,ConA-Sepharose,Sephadex G-200 and a immuno-affinity column of anti-GGT antibodies. Results: The purified enzyme had a specific activity of 402 kU/g protein at 37℃and was almost free of contaminating enzymes. The apparent Michaelis constants was 1.35 mmol/L, and the optimum pH was 10.40. Conclusion: The kinetic properties of the preparation were very close to those of the enzyme present in the human serum, The product was suitable as enzyme preparation for producing the enzyme reference material.
