In order to evaluate the quality of life and affecting risk factors for the elderly populations, cluster sampling method was used to investigate 1731 elderly individuals at Shimenerlu Community in Shanghai. The results showed that the average quality of life of the participants was above medium level, and most elderly demonstrated good quality of life. Moreover, 1536 elderly individuals (88.9%) developed at least one chronic disease, and the incidence of depression was up to 17. 2%. Affecting factors of quality of life included daily life capability, severity of disease, age, depression symptom, marriage, community activities, care provider, gender, number of disease, diabetes, hobby, income, expense, family support, and living conditions. No correlation with education, career, health insurance, and partner's disease was found. Those data suggest that community heahhcare should pay more attention to the management of chronic diseases and mental health, the development of family resources, and the improvement of hobbies and social activities in the elderly populations.

Objective It aims to investigate prevalence of depressive symptoms among the elderly in community and to understand their related social factors. Methods Four neighborhood committees were randomly selected with cluster sampling as survey sites. Enrolled residents at age of 60 to 89 years were evaluated with a general background inventory and a geriatric depression scale(GDS). All the data were input to a microcomputer and were analyzed for its relevant factors with SPSS13. 0 software by multivariate logistic regression model. Results Totally, 1731 elderly people in the community were interviewed and rated with the inventory and scale mentioned above, and depressive symptoms were found in 297 of them, with prevalence of 17. 2 percent. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that there were seven factors associated to their depressive symptoms in the elderly, including family expenditure, housing condition, medical condition, familial support, hobbies in spare-time, ability to take care of oneself and participation to social activities. Conclusions A few social factors, such as living alone, insufficient income for family expenditure, disability of self care-taking, lack of hobby in spare-time, less participation to social activities, lack of familial support and severe chronic diseases by serf-evaluation, are all associated with depressive symptoms in the elderly.

Cryoablation,a kind of physical ablation for tumor treatment,is minimally invasive,safe and effective.Studies suggest that cryoablation can not only kill tumor cells directly,but also the anti-tumor immune response triggered by cryoablation plays an important role in inhibiting the growth of local tumors and eliminating the residual tumor cells.

Objective:To investigate effect of curcumin on serum gelatinases level in patients with unstable angina pectoris (UAP). Methods:A total of 80 UAP patients admitted from January 2010 to September 2010 were enrolled and randomly divided into curcumin treatment group (n=40) and routine treatment control group (n=40). Serum levels of gelatinases [contain matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2 and -9] of the two groups were measured before and 30d after treatment.Results: Compared with before treatment , after treatment, serum levels of gelatinases significantly decreased [MMP-2:(52.64±6.77)ng/ml vs.(32.65±1.67)ng/ml,MMP-9:(56.75±7.34)ng/ml vs.(35±1.88)ng/ml]in curcumin treatment group (P<0.01), and they were significantly lower than those of routine treatment control group[MMP-2:(32.65±1.67)ng/ml vs.(37.78±2.76)ng/ml,MMP9:(35±1.88)ng/ml vs.(40.23±1.95)ng/ml]],P<0.05. Conclusion:Curcumin could decrease serum levels of gelatinases in patients with unstable angina pectoris, and possesses effect stabilizing coronary artery plaque.

Objective To investigate the energy metabolism state and the posttransplantive function under different warm ischemia time (WIT). Methods The left lobe of pancreas was resected, and according to WIT (30, 60, 90, 120 min), the canines were randomized into 4 groups. The graft was perfused and preserved by the UW solution (0-4 ℃) cold storage method for 24 h. And then the heterotopic segmental autotransplantation of pancreas was performed, while the normal control group and no warm ischemia(NWI)group were also set up. Blood sugar (BG) and intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) K value and the plasma insulin level were examined in the first week after pancreas transplantation. The amylase level of pancreatic juice 24 h and one week after transplantation were detected either. The tissue concentrations of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and total adenine nucleotides (TAN) were determined using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The pancreas cortex was taken for morphological analysis and ultrastructure study 1 h after transplantation. Results Plasma glucose in groups of 30 min and 60 min was returned to normal 3-5 days after transplantation, while groups of 90 min and 120 min could not one week after transplantation. IVGTT K values in groups of NWI, 30 min and 60 min were more than 1, while those in groups of 90 min and 120 min were less than 1 one week after transplantation. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of anterior segment optical coherence tomography to assess the anterior segment morphology of hyperopia in school-aged children. 320 eyes of 160 school-aged children, 6-12 years of age, were examined with anterior segment optical coherence tomography and were divided into four groups according to the cycloplegic spherical equivalence of refractive error. The mentioned four groups were: emmetropia group, low hyperopia group, moderate hyperopia group and high hyperopia group. The measurements of central corneal thickness, anterior chamber depth, angle opening distance, trabecular iris space area and scleral angle were compared in pairs among objects in the four groups. The results showed that high hyperopia and moderate hyperopia had shallower anterior chamber depth and narrower anterior chamber angle compared to those in emmetropia group. The study also showed that anterior segment optical coherence tomography as a non-contact technology could become a new technology for accessing the anterior segment morphology of hyperopia in school-aged children.

Ischemic cardiomyopathy (ICM) is due to coronary atherosclerosis cause long-term myocardial ischemia, make myocardial fibrosis diffuse, produce similar clinical syndrome like idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, which is one of a common clinical disease and causes increasing hazards to human health.Timely recovery of blood perfusion and coronary artery recanalization is one of the effective methods of treatment.However, it brings new damage while tissues and organs receive reperfusion, which is myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury.In this paper, the current research progress in medicine myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury and how to build a simple and efficient experimental animal models to mimic human myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury were reviewed.

Aim To study the protective effects of SEP on the hypertrophic myocardial cells induced with high glucose and high insulin and the mechanism. Methods The protein content was assayed with Lowrys meth-od;the cardiomyocytes area was measured by computer photograph analysis system;the expression of ANF and PPAR-α was determined by RT-PCR;APS was select-ed as control drug. Results Compared with conctrol group,the protein content,cardiomyocytes area and the expression of ANF and PPAR-α of high glucose and high insulin group were significantly increased. Com-pared with conctrol group,the SEP of different dosages were able to decrease the protein content, area, the expression of ANF mRNA and PPAR-α mRNA of cul-tured hypertrophic myocadial cells induced with high glucose and high insulin. Conclusion SEP can pre-vent cardiomyocyte hypertrophy induced by high glu-cose and high insulin, which is related to its inhibition on PPAR-α signaling path.

Ischemic cerebrovascular disease(ICVD) is temporary or permanent reduction of blood flow of the main arteries of the brain caused by cerebral transient,sudden,reversible neurological dysfunction.Timely recovery of blood supply to the brain is the most important way to save the patient's life,but at the same time gave restore blood perfusion brain tissue organs brought new damage,which is cerebeal ischemia reperfusion injury(CIRI).How to build an ideal,efficient,easy to operate brain ischemia-reperfusion injury in animal models to simulate the clinical study,and how to improve and innovate this model by researchers in recent years were reviewed in this article.

[Objective]To explore the value of different surgical methods in the treatment of the displaced femoral neck fracture in the elderly.[Method]A follow up study was done on 95 cases older than 65 years who were treated with internal fixation,femoral head arthroplasty and total hip joint replacement from 2003 to 2008.The differenee upon operation time,blood loss,duration of hospitalization,joint function evaluation one and two years after operation,complications and reoperation rate were compared.[Result]The internal fixation group had the shortest operation time and hospitalization and the least blood loss but the highest immobilization time,highest co-mplication rate and reoperation rate as we1l as the worst joint function.While the total hip joint repl acement group had the least immobilization time,the lowest compliction rate and reoperation rate,best joint function but required better health condition.The femoral head arthroplasty group had the least operation injury but had relative higher reoperation rate and worse joint function compared to the total hip joint replacement group.[Conclusion]Prosthetic replacement is reliable to treat femoral neck fractures in the elderly.
