BACKGROUND:
Previous studies have demonstrated that short-term exposure to ambient particulate matter elevates the risk of ischemic stroke in major urban areas of various countries. However, there is a notable gap in research focusing on remote areas inhabited by ethnic minorities and the cumulative effects of air pollutants. Our study conducted in the area aims to explore the potential association between ischemic stroke and air pollutants and contribute to improving health outcomes among the community.
METHODS:
This retrospective observational study was conducted at the Xing'an League People's Hospital in Inner Mongolia. The medical records of 4,288 patients admitted for IS between November 1, 2019, and October 31, 2020, were reviewed. Data on demographics (age and sex), air pollutants (PM10, PM2.5, NO2, NO, CO, and O3), and meteorological factors (daily average temperature, daily average wind speed, and daily average atmosphere pressure) were collected and analyzed. The statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, Poisson distribution analysis to evaluate the adverse effects of atmospheric pollutants on daily hospitalizations, and subgroup analysis to determine whether gender and age could modify the impact on hospitalizations.
RESULTS:
A substantial correlation was revealed in single-day lags model. The peak delayed effects of PM10, PM2.5, SO2, and NO2 were observed at lag8 (PM10 (OR = 1.016, 95%CI 1.002, 1.030), PM2.5 (OR = 1.027, 95%CI 1.007, 1.048), SO2 (OR = 1.153, 95%CI 1.040, 279) and NO2 (OR = 1.054, 95%CI 1.005, 1.105)) while males exhibited a consistent trend from lag0 to lag8 (PM10 (OR = 1.035, 95%CI 1.018, 1.053), PM2.5 (OR = 1.056, 95%CI 1.030, 1.082), SO2 (OR = 1.220, 95%CI 1.072, 1.389), NO2 (OR = 1.126, 95%CI 1.061, 1.120), CO (OR = 10.059, 95%CI 1.697, 59.638) and O3 (OR = 0.972, 95%CI 0.946, 0.999)). When gender and age were considered, a positive impact was also observed after three days cumulative effect in males.
CONCLUSIONS
There is a significant cumulative effect of exposure to air pollution on IS hospital admissions, especially the males and patients under the age of 65. Our results also suggested that a notable association between CO and NO2 in two-pollutant models.

The prefrontal cortex (PFC) plays a pivotal role in orchestrating higher-order emotional and cognitive processes, a function that depends on the precise modulation of synaptic activity. Although pharmacological studies have demonstrated that dopamine signaling through dopamine D1 receptor (DRD1) in the PFC is essential for these functions, the cell-type-specific and molecular mechanisms underlying the neuromodulatory effects remain elusive. Using cell-type-specific knockout mice and patch-clamp recordings, we investigated the regulatory role of DRD1 on neurons and astrocytes in synaptic transmission and plasticity. Furthermore, we explored the mechanisms by which DRD1 on astrocytes regulate synaptic transmission and plasticity at the cellular level, as well as emotional and cognitive functions at the behavioral level, through two-photon imaging, microdialysis, high-performance liquid chromatography, transcriptome sequencing, and behavioral testing. We found that conditional knockout of the Drd1 in astrocytes (CKOAST) increased glutamatergic synaptic transmission and long-term potentiation (LTP) in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC), whereas Drd1 deletion in pyramidal neurons did not affect synaptic transmission. The elevated level of d-serine in the mPFC of CKOAST mice increased glutamatergic transmission and LTP through NMDA receptors. In addition, CKOAST mice exhibited abnormal emotional and cognitive function. Notably, these behavioral changes in CKOAST mice could be reversed through the administration of d-serine degrease to the mPFC. These results highlight the critical role of the astrocytic DRD1 in modulating mPFC synaptic transmission and plasticity, as well as higher brain functions through d-serine, and may shed light on the treatment of mental disorders.

Objective Exploring the relationship between changes in serum Golgi apparatus transmem-brane glycoprotein 73(GP73)and chitosanase 3-like protein 1(CHI3L1)levels and liver fibrosis and lesion sever-ity in patients with hepatitis B(CHB).Methods Using a case-control study,80 patients diagnosed with CHB infection and developing liver fibrosis in the Infectious Disease Department of Changsha First Hospital from June 2020 to June 2023 were selected as the liver fibrosis group, while 120 patients diagnosed with CHB infection but not developing liver fibrosis in the Infectious Disease Department of our hospital were selected as the control group. The serum GP3,CHI3L1,liver function, and fibrosis indicators of the two groups of patients were compared, and the liver fibrosis group was divided into mild according to Scheuer system standards Perform stratified analysis on patients with significant liver fibrosis. Results The serum GP3 and CHI3L1 levels in the liver fibrosis group were significantly higher than those in the control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05);The ROC curves were plotted using serum GP3,CHI3L1,and GP3+CHI3L1,respectively.The sensitivity for diagnosing liver fibrosis in CHB patients was 62.81%,60.94%,and 96.33%,with specificity of 80.66%,80.05%,and 75.30%.The AUC values under the curves were 0.792,0.756,and 0.908,respectively;The levels of ALT,AST,HA,LN,PC III NP,C IV,and CG in the liver fibrosis group were higher than those in the control group, and the PLT measurement values were lower than those in the control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05);49 patients with moderate to severe liver fibrosis(33 in S2 phase and 16 in S3 phase)and 31 patients with mild liver fibrosis(all in S1 phase)had significantly higher serum GP3 and CHI3L1 levels than mild patients, with statistical significance(P<0.05);The levels of DBIL,ALT,AST,HA,LN,PC III NP,C IV,and CG in patients with moderate to severe liver fibrosis were higher than those in the mild group, and the PLT measurement values were lower than those in the mild group, with statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion The serum GP3 and CHI3L1 levels in CHB patients with liver fibrosis are significantly elevated, and there is a certain correlation with the degree of liver fibro-sis.The combination of these two indicators is beneficial for diagnosing liver fibrosis in CHB patients.
