1.Predictors for intravenous immunoglobulin resistance and coronary artery leisions in Kawasaki disease
International Journal of Pediatrics 2013;40(6):625-628
Kawasaki disease(KD) is an acute, systemic vasculitis syndrome that primarily affects coronary arteries. The long-term prognosis depends on the severity of coronary artery leisions(CAL).Treatment with high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG) within 10 days of the onset of fever is proven to decrease the incidence of CAL.Patients with IVIG resistance is at a high risk to be affected by CAL.How to predict IVIG resistance and CAL in the early stage is helpful for improving the outcome of Kawasaki disease. Thus, predictors of IVIG resistance and CAL for KD were reviewed in this article.

[Objectives] To evaluate characteristics of Kawasaki disease(KD) in children younger than 5 years old in comparison with older than 5 years old, and to improve the knowledge of clinicians on KD in older children. [Method] The clinical characteristics and treatment of Kawasaki disease from January, 2004 to May,2011 were analyzed retrospectively and summarized .[Results] A total of 158 patients were included in this study, 39 patients(24.7%) were ≥5 years old and 79 patients(75.3%) were<5 years old. The older children seemed to have longer total fever duration, pre-intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG) and post-IVIG fever duration and higher coronary artery disease(23.08% vs.8.40%) than the younger children, and the incidence rate of incomplete KD was higher in younger infant. But there was no difference in effect of IVIG ,incidence of conjunctival hyperemia, extremity hardness, cervical lymphadenopathy and rash, etc(P>0.05). There was statistical difference in erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR), hemoglobin(Hb) and white blood cell(WBC) count between 2 groups(P<0.05).The expression of inflammation factor in acute phase of older children was higher than the younger children(P<0.05). [Conclusions] Older patients had a higher prevalence of KD and coronary artery abnormalities than the younger patients. The occurrence of coronary artery might be related to more marked inflammatory response.

Objective To investigate the diagnostic value of the early slope value of enhancement in differentiating benign from malignant musculoskeletal masses. Methods Dynamic contrast-enhanced gradient-recalled acquisition in the steady state imaging(GRASS) was performed to evaluate 36 musculoskeletal masses(18 malignant,18 benign). The difference of the early slope value of enhancement was analysed and compared between benign lesions and malignant ones.Using ROC curve plotting obtained the best decisive threshold.Spearman rank correlation analysis was used to determine the relation between slope and microvessel density of tumor tissues. Results The average early slope value of enhancement was (4.33?2.70)% per second (range 0.97%~10.50% per second)for malignant lesions, and was (1.46?0.97)% per second(range 0.37%~3.86% per second)for benign ones. There was an apparent statistical significance between benign and malignant tumors(?

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the relation between methylation status of RAS association domain family 1A (RASSF1A) in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer and the clinical efficacy of cisplatin based neoadjuvant therapy.
METHODS:
Forty patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer were selected and the methylation status of RASSF1A was evaluated by methylation specific PCR (MSP). The clinical efficacy was compared between patients with different methylation statuses of RASSF1A.
RESULTS:
The response rate of 15 patients with methylation status in the promoter region was 26.6% and that of 25 patients without methylation status was 48.0%, with significant difference (P<0.05).
CONCLUSION
The methylation status of RASSF1A can influence the clinical efficacy of neoadjuvant therapy in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer.

Objective To analyze the characteristics of dynamic contrast enhanced MR imaging (DCE-MRI)in prostate cancer (PCa)at 3.0T,and to evaluate the diagnostic value of DCE-MRI.Methods 85 patients with suepected PCa received conventional MRI and DCE-MRI.The signal intense-time (SI-T)curve was analyzed. Then the time to maximum (Tmax),the maximum degree of enhancement (STmax%),and the rate of enhancement (Rmax)were calculated. The differences of styles of SI-T curve and the parameters between the positive and negative group were compared respectively. Results 59 cases of PCa were proved by biopsy, and there was no evidence of tumor in 26 cases.507 zones had histopathological results with 250 zones in positive group and 257 zones in negative group .The most common style of SI-T curve in positive group was rapidly ascending followed with descending curve, the most common style of SI-T curve in negative group was persistent ascending curve and plateau curve. The mean values of Tmax,SImax%,Rmax were (69.49±22.53)s,1.74±0.43,7.83±3.80 in positive group respectively, while (175.61±52.64)s,1.05±0.35,1.86±1.10 in negative group respectively, there were statistically significant differences between the two groups(t =-24.24,1 6.34,1 7.75,P <0.01)respectively. The mean values of Tmax,SImax% ,Rmax were (8 9 .1 9 ± 3 1 .7 2 )s,1 .5 8 ± 0 .4 6 ,5 .2 1 ± 3 .3 4 in the low-risk group (Gleason score 2 - 6 )respectively, while (64.25±14.68)s,1.76±0.43,8.25±3.70 in the high-risk group (Gleason score 7-10)respectively, there were statistically significant differences between them(t = 7.09,-8.74,- 7.83,P <0.01).Conclusion 3.0T DCE-MRI has great value in the diagnosis of PCa.

To evaluate the biological safety of collagen-based bone repairing material, we implanted the sample or reference substance into rats, and observed relative signs, including the specific inspection targets in animals, blood examination, analysis of immune organ, the pathological examination of organs and tissues, NK cell killing activity assay, lymphocyte group analysis, serum IL-1, IL-6, TNF-alpha detection, detection of immune globulin. Meanwhile, we set control group, sham group, and immunosuppression group. The final results showed that there was no abnormal mental state before and after the experiment. Compared with the control group, the tested group indicated no significant difference in blood test, immune organ analysis, the pathological examination of organs and tissues, NK cell killing activity assay, lymphocyte subset analysis serum IL-1, IL-6, TNF-alphadetection, and detection of immune globulin. Collagen-based bone repairing material produced a slight and transient stimulation on the rats, but created no significant inflammatory responses.

AIM:To investigate the efficiency of 2-methoxyestradiol (2-ME) as radiosensitizing agent for the treatment of lung cancer cells. METHODS:Cell line A549 and GLC-82 originated from human non-small cell lung cancer were cultured in vitro. Study group (2-ME in different concentrations) and control group without 2-ME were set up. Cell proliferation was measured by MTT assay that lung cancer cells were treated with 2-ME for 24 h,then the cells were exposed from 0 to 8Gy radiation, and the survival fraction was determined by clone forming test. Flow cytometry was used to measure the effects of 2-ME on cell cycle distribution. RESULTS:MTT assay showed minimum effective concentration value was 0.15625×10~(-6) mol/L in GLC-82 and 1.25×10~(-6) mol/L in A549 cells. Compared to control group, exposed GLC-82 cells or A549 cells to minimum effective concentration of 2-ME for 24 h before irradiation resulted in an enhancement of radiation. The protection enhancement factor was 1.98 and 2.06 in GLC-82 and A549 cells, respectively. Flow cytometry analysis of cell cycle progression demonstrated G_2/M phase arrest in both cells in a dose dependent manner. No obvious change of CDK2 activity in both GLC-82 cells and A549 cells was observed. CONCLUSION:2-ME enhances radiosensitivity by G_2/M phase arrest in the cell cycle.
