1.Study on the analysis of snails(Semisulcospira libertina), the first intermediate host of Paragonimus westermani in the Haenam area.
The Korean Journal of Parasitology 1970;8(3):81-89
Studies of the water analysis of the breeding place of the first intermediate host(Semisulcospira libertina) was carried out. The breeding place of Semisulcospira libertina in the Haenam area were found mainly in pebbly and sandy riverbed of the upper stream and halfway up the Donghae river, but we could not find the habitats of Semisulcospira libertina in the spring, paddyfield and tidal part of flow in which the content of Cl ion, Ca ion, total alkalinity, total hardness and pH were obviously higher than those of the breeding place. The range of physical and chemical characters of the Semisulcospira libertina breeding water were as follows. 0.05-0.7 m/s of optimal flowing velocity of fresh water, 20-50 cm in depth, 7.12+/-0.17 of optimal pH range 19.4+/-4.92(mg/l)in total alkalinity, 9.4+/-2.97(mg/l) of Ca ion, 9.8+/-2.3(mg/l) of Cl ion content, 115.1+/-34.2(mg/l) of total hardness, but there were no remarkable differences between the habitat water and the contrasts in their specific gravities. In the comparison of analytical result of the breeding water at Haenam, the content of Ca ion, Cl ion, total alkalinity, total hardness and pH showed a gradually higher value in the lower reaches of the river than those of the upper stream and halfway up the river.

Korean Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 1997;40(1):129-139
To investigate the properties and mechanism of PAF and TNF on the synthesis of prostaglandin E2 in human amnion, primary monolayer culture method was used for human amnion cell incubation. Amnion cells were incubated with various concentrations of PAF or TNF in Ca++ containing medium for various duration. Then PG E2 concentrations were measured by RIA and analyzed for the effect of PAF and TNF on PG E2 production according to their doses and incubation time. To test the role of Ca++ in E2 production, Ca++ free medium, Ca++ -channel antagonist and cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor were substituted or added in incubation medium. Following results were obtained. The synthesis of PG E2 was significantly enhanced by PAF of 10(-6) mol/L. The TNF also stimulated PG E2 synthesis at concentration of 10(-6)g/ml. The maximal level in PAF(10-6mol/L)-stimulated release of PG E2 was observed after 16 hours in incubation. The TNF(10(-6)g/ml)-induced PG E2 release was maximal after 24 hours of incubation. Combined application of PAF and TNF produced positive effect in PG E2 production. PAF or TNF stimulated-PG E2 production in Ca++ -free media was much lower than that of Ca++ -containing media. The PAF-stimulated PG E2 release was significantly inhibited by Ca++ -channel antagonist but TNF-stimulated PG E2 release was not effected by Ca++ -channel antagonist or cyclo-oxygenase inhibitor. It is strongly suggested us that both PAF and TNF enhance PG E2 release by amnion cell, although Ca++ -channel opening is essential only for PAF stimulation.

3.Clinical Verification of the Calculation of Tibial Tunnel Length in Endoscopic ACL Reconstruction.
Chung Nam KANG ; Dong Wook KIM
Journal of the Korean Knee Society 1997;9(1):13-18
Tibial tunnel placement during endoscopic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction has received increased emphasis in the recent literature. Tibial tunnel length is a factor that affect graft fixation, potential impingement, and graft abrasion. Appropriate tunnel length is a critical tecpnical consideration. A tunnel that is too long may make distal fixation and femoral tunnel placement difficult... A tunnel that is too short results in graft extrusion, necessitating supplemental fixation techniques. This grafl-tunnel mismatch can be avoided if fhe sum of the tibial tunnel length plus the intraarticular distance of ACL is equal to or greater than the graft tendon length plus 20mm (the minimum interference fixation possible when using the smallest available 20 mm long interference screw). Authors published an article to determine the reiationship between the length of patellar tendon and that of anterior cruciate ligament, to calculate the tibial tunnel length through the dissection of 19 cadaveric knees (ACL length (mm)=0.73 X Patellar tendon length-2.69 (p

Korean Journal of Dermatology 1994;32(1):134-138
Injectable Collagen Implan, is composed of purified bovine dermal collagen emulsified in saline and lidocaine(0.3%) base, and has been promoted for correction of soft tissue contour defects. Although collagen is a relatively nontoxic, nonimmunologic and biolegically nonreactive biomaterial, some side reactions have been reported. We report herein a case of cutaneous side reaction to collagen implantation in a 38-year-old female. The patient presented with puritic, irritating, multiple, erythematous nodules on both the temporal and interorbital area, which had been observed since 1 day after collagen(KOKEN ATELOCOLLA-GEN IMPLANT-Japan) implantation. Histopathologic findings showed dense infiltration of acute and chronic inflammatory cells in the dermis, especially the perivascular and periadnexal area.

Neurology Asia 2016;21(4):385-388
Osteoporosis causes a decrease in bone mineral density. To overcome the decrease in fixation strength,
a variety of techniques and devices have been developed, including cement augmentation of pedicle
screws. Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), is commonly known as bone cement, and is widely used
for implant fixation in various orthopaedic and spine surgery. In general, PMMA augmentation of
pedicle screws is simple and safe if performed with technical precautions. PMMA is a safe agent,
but it may rarely lead to significant foreign body reactions. In this report, we present a patient who
developed bone cement-related epidural space foreign body granuloma

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1998;33(4):1009-1015
Divergent placement of the femoral interference screw has been described as a major pitfall in single incision endoscopic reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament. This study reviews the radiographic results in 30 consecutive endoscopic single-incision ACL reconstructions using interference screw fixation to find a method to reduce the divergent femoral screw fixation. We measured the angles which were determined by a line through axis of femoral bone block and axis of interference screw in anteroposterior and lateral view of knee(APD/LD),through axis of femoral tunnel and axis of tibial tunnel in the full extension-anteroposterior view(AFT),through the longitudinal axis of distal femoral shaft and axis of femoral tunnel in the anteroposterior and lateral view(APFT/LFT). Average LD(4.96+/-62degrees) was significantly larger than average APD(1.303+/-13degrees) (P=0.008). Significant correlation was present between APD and APFT(g=-0.3882, P=0.034), between LD and LFT(gamma=0.6933, P=0.000) and other variables had no significant correlation. The femoral divergence in the anteroposterior plane occurred in the case with small angle between longitudinal axis of femoral shaft and that of femoral tunnel, and vice versa in lateral plane. During drilling of femoral tunnel, more than 90 flexion causes LFT to increase and the risk of femoral divergence increases. Therefore, in the anteroposterior plane, angle between femoral tunnel and longitudinal axis of femoral shaft shoud be made as large as possible and flexion of knee should not be more than 90 during drilling of femoral tunnel.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1996;31(5):1025-1029
Arthroscopically assisted anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) reconsturction provide a technique with less morbidity, less pin, less sacr, lower ris k of sepsis. The magnification offered by arthroscopic visualization also provide a clearer view, more precise location of anatomical landmarks, and the ability to place the graft in the exact anatomic sites. However, in order to accomplish all these goals, the surgeon must possess a high level of psychomotor skills, which take time and practice to develop. Wile this learning curve is being completed, there are occasion when complications will occur, and, realistically these may be difficult to avoid. The purpose of this study is to evaluate author's cases in which complication occurred during the endoscopic one-incision ACL reconstruction using the patellar tendon and to offer some tips on how to avoid them and how to salvage the situation if they do occur. We reviewed 22 complications (11 patients) out of 40 ACL reconstructions performed between May 1994 and December 1995. The complications were divergence(6), graft-tunnel mismatch(5), too anterior tibial tunnel(3), too anterior femoral tunnel(2), too posterior femoral tunnel(2), rotation of screw around the graft(2), guide pin breakage(1), bone plug retraction into the joint(1). It is suggested that arthroscopist should constantly try to avoid the intraoperative complications of arthroscopically assisted ACL reconstruction and follow the precautions and preventive measures recommended.

The Journal of the Korean Orthopaedic Association 1996;31(6):1307-1310
Many types of meniscal anomalies were reported. Authors found a double-layered lateral meniscus, with one meniscus overlying another. The 39-year old male patient had torn medial and lateral menisci. We performed partial medial and lateral meniscectomy, and incidentally found that lateral meniscus was double-layered. It was characteristic that the upper small accessory meniscus was firmly connected from the posterior horn to middle segments of the lower main meniscus along its peripheral edge. We left it alone. The symptoms were gone, So, it was thought that this anomaly was not related to the patient's symptoms.

Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 1997;8(3):347-352
BACKGROUND: The pediatric CPR is rather uncommon practice than adult CPR in emergency room. Therefore, few interest and studies were focused in pediatric CPR. The object of this study is to make an analysis about pediatric CPR performed within hospital setting. METHOD: From January 1. 1990 to December 31. 1996, a total of 59 patients, less than 15-year-old, who received cardiopulmonary resuscitation were subject of this study. The study was done retrospective chart analysis for sex, age, weight, the place of cardiac arrest, initial EKG rhythms, endotracheal tube size, the causes of arrest, CPR time, ROSC, the amount and types of CPR drugs used during resuscitation. Wilcoxon rank sum test and chi2 test were used to compare the dose of drugs during CPR in each group. RESULTS: There were no statistical difference between ROSC and non-ROSC group in place of arrest, initial EKG rhythms, CPR time, dosage of CPR drugs. CONCLUSION: The uniform reporting guideline of pediatric advanced life support should be used for future pediatric CPR study, such as Utstein style guideline in pediatric CPR.
