Objective To study the influence and dose effect of ultrasound on the contraction of uterine smooth muscle in rats.Methods Estradiol benzoate was injected into rats three days before conducting an in-vitro experiment.Their uteri were resected and irradiated with ultrasound(0.8 MHz,3 W/cm~2,0-40 rain).The contrac- tion frequency and amplitude were recorded using an MS-302 biological experiment system.Results It could be seen that the contraction frequency and amplitude,and general contractile activity were significantly increased during ultrasonic irradiation(P<0.01).The increased contraction frequency and amplitude lasted for ten minutes,and then the normal contraction pattern resumed.The contraction frequency as well as the percentage change in eontraction fre- quency were highest during the first 15 minutes of ultrasonic irradiation;the contraction amplitude as well as the per- centage change in amplitude were highest during 40 minutes of ultrasonic irradiation.Contraction activity was at its highest for 30 minutes,but the percentage change in activity was highest for 20 minutes.Conclusions Ultrasound can induce uterine smooth muscle contraction in rats.This biological effect is related to the irradiation time.
4.Studying the influence of Candesartan cilexetil on the lung fibrosis in rats exposed to silica.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effects of Candesartan cilexetil on the rats exposed to silica.
METHODNinety-six wistar rats were randomly divided into model-group, intervention-group and control-group (32 rats a group). The intervention-group, model-group and control group were orally exposed to Candesartan cilexetil (10 mg/kg) and normal solution for a week, respectively. Then the model and intervention groups were exposed to silica by intratracheal infusion of silica dust suspension (50 mg/ml), the control group was exposed to 0.5 ml normal solution for 2 days. On the 3rd, 7th, 14th and 28th days after exposure to silica, 8 rats of each group were sacrificed, respectively. The samples of lung tissues were collected. The lung/body coefficients were detected. The pathological examinations were performed by HE and Masson staining. The levels of ACE in the lung tissues were observed by immunochemistry staining. The levels of TGF-β1 and Ang II in the BALF were examined by ELISA.
RESULTSOn the 3rd, 7th, 14th and 28th days after exposure, the levels of alveolitis and pulmonary fibrosis in the intervention group were significantly alleviated as compared with model group, and the lung/body coefficients in the intervention group, which were significantly lower than those in model group respectively (P < 0.01). As compared with control group, the levels of TGF-β1 and Ang II of the BALF in the model and intervention groups significantly enhanced (P < 0.01). As compared with model group, the levels of TGF-β1 and Ang II of the BALF in the intervention group significantly decreased (P < 0.01). As compared with control group, the levels of ACE of the lung tissues in the model and intervention groups significantly increased (P < 0.01). But the level of ACE of the lung tissues in the intervention group was significantly lower than that in the model group (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONThe early Candesartan cilexetil intervention could significantly decrease the levels of alveolitis and lung fibrosis, declined the levels of TGF-β(1) and Ang II of BALF and downregulated the expression level of ACE in lung tissues in rats exposed to silica.

5.Efficacy of early continuous hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion on patients with advanced gastric carcinoma after surgical resection.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy of early continuous hyperthermic peritoneal perfusion (CHPP) on patients of advanced gastric carcinoma after surgical resection.
METHODSSeventy patients were divided into control and treatment group. Patients in treatment group received CHPP 1 or 2 days postoperatively. Treatment was administered daily consecutively for 4 days. Patients in control group underwent resection of gastric carcinoma without CHPP. Chemotherapy was administered of Calcium Folinate and 5-Fluorouracil (LF regimen) intravenously for 6 cycles in both groups two or three weeks postoperatively. Survival and recurrence in both groups were observed and compared.
RESULTSOne-year survival and recurrence rates were 83.3% and 8.3% in treatment group, 79.4% and 11.7% in control group, there were no significant differences between the two groups. Three-year survival and recurrence rates were 63.9% and 19.4 in treatment group, 39.8% and 44.1% in control group, there were significant differences between the two groups.
CONCLUSIONEarly administration of CHPP to patients with advanced gastric carcinoma after surgery may be advantageous for preventing peritoneal metastasis and recurrence, thus may prolong survival time.

OBJECTIVETo observe and analyze the antitumor effect of endostar combined with docetaxel under different administration sequences.
METHODSNude mice with xenograft tumor (A549 cell line) were randomized into 3 groups, 8 mice/group: (1) Concurrent administration group (each mouse: endostar 400 µg/d, d1-d35, docetaxel 10 mg/kg, every 3 days, d1-d19); (2) Endo-first group (each mouse: endostar 400 µg/d, d1-d35, docetaxel 10 mg/kg, every 3 days, d16-d34); (3) Model group (positive control, tumor-bearing mice without treatment, each mouse: physiological saline, 100 µl/d, d1-d35, water for injection, 200 µl/d, d1-d35, every 3 days), and blank control group (negative control, normal mice without treatment, 8 mice), the administration method was the same to the model group. The volume of tumor and the weight of mouse were measured during treatment. Circulating endothelial cells (CECs) were detected by flowcytometry, and the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-2, MMP-9), the tissue inhibitor of MMP (TIMP-1, TIMP-2), the extracellular MMP inducer (EMMPRIN), CD34, α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) were determined by immunohistochemistry.
RESULTSThe tumor growth of concurrent administration group (39.94 mm(3)) was lower than that of the endo-first group [(99.57 ± 74.48) mm(3)] during treatment, both of them were smaller than that of the model group [(217.67 ± 95.44) mm(3), P < 0.05]. The amount of CECs in the endo-first group [(77.25 ± 24.02) cells/10(4) cells] was more than that of the concurrent administration group [(25.86 ± 11.77) cells/10(4) cells], the model group [(14.71 ± 11.07) cells/10(4) cells], and the blank control group [(12.90 ± 11.20) cells/10(4) cells, P < 0.01]. The expression of MMPs in the treatment groups was obviously downregulated. The expressions of TIMP-1 in the endo-first group and TIMP-2 in the concurrent administration group were upregulated (P < 0.05). The expression of EMMPRIN was significantly down-regulated in the concurrent administration group (P < 0.05). The MVD and α-SMA expressions of the treatment groups were less than that of the model group (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONIn comparison with the endo-first group, the anti-tumor effect and survival quality of the concurrent administration group are better. Both of the administration groups may have "vascular normalization effect" by down-regulating MMPs expression through different points, and inhibit the cancer-induced stromal reaction, restraining the cancer progress to a certain extent. The changes of CECs should be a dynamic process with an initial rise in the early-stage suggesting the decrease of vascular bed and subsequent decline ascribed to apoptosis of CECs and the tumor-regression after combined therapy. Investigation of its dynamic changes may be helpful to know the change of tumor burden and vascular bed and predict the antitumor effect.

8.Sutural physical model building in the three-dimensional finite-element model of maxillofacial bones.

OBJECTIVETo build the physical model of four suturae which are related to the growth of maxilla in the three-dimensional finite-element model of maxillofacial bones.
METHODSA 16 years old volunteer with individual normal occlusion, good periodontium health condition and without diseases of temporomandibular joint was chosen to be the material of modeling. The three-dimensional finite-element model of the volunteer's maxillofacial bones was built using the CT scan and the finite-element modeling method. Finally we built the physical model of four suturae which were related to the growth of maxilla in the model of maxillofacial bones.
RESULTSThe model of maxillofacial bones with 86,575 nodes and 485,915 elements was generated. This model contained four suturae including sutura frontomaxillaris, sutura zygomaticomaxillaris, sutura temporozygomatica and sutura pterygopalatine.
CONCLUSIONA three-dimensional finite-element model of maxillofacial bones with good biological similarity was developed.

9.Effects of orthodontic treatment on temporomandibular joint in adult female low-angle patients with skeletal class III malocclusion.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of orthodontic treatment on temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in adult low-angle patients with skeletal class III malocclusion.
METHODSSixteen adult female low-angle patients with skeletal class III malocclusion were included in the study. All patients were treated with OPA-K straight wire technique. Lateral cephalometric and corrected transcranial projection films were taken before and after treatment. Cephalometric analysis was carried out. All data were analyzed statistically.
RESULTSAfter orthodontic treatment, the linear measurement and area of anterior space in TMJ increased by 0.27 mm (P < 0.001) and 0.70 mm(2) (P < 0.01), respectively, while the posterior space decreased by 0.24 mm and 0.67 mm(2), respectively (P < 0.001). Linear ratio decreased from 22.13% to 9.64% (P < 0.001), and area proportion decreased from 1.56 to 1.19 (P < 0.01). Anterior space became equal to the posterior space. Cephalometric analysis showed that point Co, Ar, Go and Pg were all retruded (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONSAfter orthodontic therapy, the condyle moved posteriorly to normal concentric position, which would be helpful in alleviating temporomandibular disorders (TMD) symptom in adult low-angle patients with skeletal class III malocclusion.

10.The Design and Practice in"four in two"Basis of Life Integrated Curriculum

Objective To explore the thinking and methods of integration curriculum. Methods The content of theory and experiment of the biochemistry,molecular biology, cell biology, medical genetics are optimized, streamlined and integrated to form theory course and experiment experimental course of " basis fo life", namely"four in two". Forming a teaching team across departments, multi-disciplinary teaching is carried out. The theory takes " cell-moleculeinheritance-disorders" as the main line, interspersed with " flipped class model" . The experimental course deletes repeated confirmatory experiments and adds some comprehensive experiments. The course assessment and performance evaluation are carried out with the combination of formative assessment and summative evaluation. Results The teaching mode of integration curriculum has been carried out in the experimental class of undergraduate students for two years. Compared with the theoretical examination scores, the results of the experimental class were significantly higher than that of the control class, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05) . 24 students took part in research in experimental class, but only 10 students did in control class.Conclusion The implementation of integrated curriculum can promote student’s independent learning, improve student’s ability to analyze and solve problems, and mobilize student’s interest in scientific research practice. It provides useful reference and experience for the integration of basic course in the life science field of higher medical colleges.
