Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer (P. ginseng) has been used as traditional medicine in Asian countries for more than 2,000 years. P. ginseng contains many active components such as ginsenosides, peptides, essential oil and polysaccharides, among which, P. ginseng polysaccharides were reported to have immunomodulating, anti-cancer, anti-adhesive and antioxidant activities. For better understanding of the structures and biological activities of all the ginseng polysaccharides, here the recent research achievements were reviewed. This review would be helpful for the relevant researchers to get useful information.

Objective To observe the expression of STEAP4 gene(a novel obesity-related gene) during the period of human preadipocyte differentiation and to explore the relationship between the STEAP4 gene expression and adipocytes differentiation, adipogenesis. Methods Human preadipocytes were cultured and differentiated into the matured adipocytes in vitro.Adipocytes morphology and lipid accumulation were observed during this process.Total RNA was extracted from adipocytes at various time points (preadipocyte,Day 0,Day 4,Day 6,Day 8,Day 11,Day 14,and Day 17) and the level of STEAP4 mRNA expression was measured by fluorescent real-time quantitative reverse transcriptase-polyme-rase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Results The level of STEAP4 mRNA expression remained high in preadipocytes. In the presence of differentiation medium (Day 4),there was a transient upregulation in the expression of STEAP4 gene. After that, with the human preadipocytes being differentiated into matured adipocytes, the expression of STEAP4 mRNA was downregulated and reached the lowest level in fully differentiated adipocytes. There was a significant difference between any 2 detected phases in the level of STEAP4 mRNA expression (Pa

Objective To investigate the status of anxiety-depression and the relevant factors in puerpera be- fore delivery. Methods The emotion of anxiety and depression in puerpera before delivery was evaluated by self-rat- ing anxiety scale(SAS)and self-rating depression scale(SDS)which had satisfactory validity and reliability. Results The values of anxiety and depression in puerpera were higher than those of general crowd(P

Chinese Journal of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine 2014;34(12):1487-1491
OBJECTIVETo study the effect of Bushen Tongdu Capsule (BTC) on RANK/RANKL/ OPG pathway of collagen induced arthritis (CIA) rats, thereby laying theoretic evidence for treating rheumatic arthritis (RA) by Chinese medicine.
METHODSRA model was induced by CIA. Totally 42 rats were randomly divided into six groups, i.e., the normal control group, the model group, the low dose BTC (BSL) group, the medium dose BTC (BSM) group, the high dose BTC (BSH) group, and the Tripterygium Glycosides (TG) group, 7 in each group. BTC at the daily dose of 120, 240, and 480 mg/kg was given by gastrogavage to rats in the BSL, BSM, and BSH group respectively from the 13th day of modeling. TG at the daily dose of 24 mg/kg was given by gastrogavage to rats in the TG group. All medication was given once daily, 2 mL each time. Two mL normal saline was administered to rats in the normal control group and the model group. All medication lasted for 18 days. Samples were taken at day 31. The TRAP section of the ankle joint was fixed in 10% formalin for TRAP stain. Serum levels of osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor-κB ligand (RANKL), and macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) were detected using ELISA.
RESULTSCompared with the normal control group, positive reactions of pathological ankle joint section, inflammation, and osteoclasia degree were significantly improved in the model group, serum levels of RANKL and M-CSF were up-regulated, levels of OPG and OPG/RANKL were significantly lowered (all P < 0.01). Compared with the model group, positive reactions of pathological ankle joint section, inflammation, and osteoclasia degree also significantly decreased in the BSH group and the TG group (all P < 0.01). RANKL and M-CSF were significantly down-regulated in each medicated group, while levels of OPG and OPG/RANKL were significantly up-regulated (all P < 0.01). Compared with the TG group, M-CSF was lower, but levels of OPG and OPG/RANKL were significantly up-regulated in the normal control group (all P < 0.01). RANKL and M-CSF were significantly up-regulated, while levels of OPG and OPG/RANKL were significantly down-regulated in the model group and each BS group (all P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONBTC could relieve bone damage of CIA rats possibly through regulating and controlling osteoclasts.

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2003;0(10):-
Aim To study the expression of P-selectin,E-selectin and ICAM-1 and the migration of leukocyte at different time points after focal brain ischemia-reperfusion,and explore the role of cell adhesion molecules in cerebral ischemia-reperfusion damage. Methods The model of focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion was established with the occluding suture as described by Longa.Sham operation was performed without inserting the suture.Rats were decapitated under anesthesia at 4,8,12,24,and 48 h after ischemia-reperfusion.Brains were immediately removed and samples were handled for following application.Morphological changes of the brain tissue were observed through hematoxylin-eosin staining. The positive expressions of P-selectin,E-selectin,and ICAM-1 were observed and located using immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescent histochemistry technique, respectively. The expressions of P-selectin, E-selectin and ICAM-1 in infracted cortex were measured quantitively with Flow cytometry. The activities of myeloperoxidase in the infracted hemispheres represented the migration of leukocytes were detected through biochemical method. Results The positive cells of P-selectin,E-selectin,and ICAM-1 expressed at the same position of microvessels in the infracted hemisphere were significantly increased after ischemia-reperfusion.Compared with the sham operation group(P-selectin:(4.99?0.08) channel,E-selectin:(4.17?0.13) channel,ICAM-1:(4.17?0.13) channel),the expressions of P-selectin,E-selectin,and ICAM-1 at I/R 4 h((5.46?0.09) channel,(4.60?0.14) channel,(4.56?0.12) channel),I/R 8 h((5.87?0.24) channel,(5.08?0.14) channel,(5.41?0.22) channel),I/R 12 h((6.48?0.18) channel,(5.72?0.18) channel,(5.66?0.16) channel),I/R 24 h((7.16?0.11) channel,(6.09?0.09) channel,(5.61?0.09) channel), and I/R 48 h((5.82?0.28) channel,(5.37?0.25) channel,(5.27?0.16) channel) were increased(P
