ObjectiveTo observe the effect of stimulating “Zhiyang” (DU 9) with electric acupuncture apparatus on contents of cAMP and cGMP in plasma of experimental acute myocardial ischemic rabbits.Methods40 rabbits were randomly divided into four groups: the normal control group (A), model group (B), model plus electric acupuncture on “Neiguan” (P 6) group (C) and model plus electric acupuncture on DU 9 group (D). The acute myocardial ischemic model was established by pituitrin (2 U/kg) injected into the vein of rabbit. Electrocardiogram (ECG) of Ⅱ leads was observed and contents of cAMP and cGMP in plasma were tested after electric acupuncture by radio immunoassay.ResultsThe cAMP contents of the group C and group D were lower than that of the group B significantly ( P<0.01), but not different from that of the group A ( P>0.05), and there was no difference between the group C and group D. The contents of cGMP were not different among four groups ( P>0.05).ConclusionPuncturing DU 9 can raise the myocardial endurance to the insufficiency of blood and oxygen. The effects of electric acupuncture on DU 9 and P 6 are the same.

Journal of Zhejiang University. Medical sciences 2006;35(6):662-667
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the efficacy and safety of transcatheter closure of perimembranous ventricular septal defects (VSD) in children following transthoracic echocardiography (TTE).
METHODSFrom September 2002 to December 2005, eighty-nine children (47 males and 42 females) with perimembranous (VSD) underwent an attempt of transcatheter interventional occlusion. Among the 89 children, one of them was diagnosed with patent ductus arterious (PDA) and six with VSD leakage after the surgical repair (three with leakage after the surgical repair of tetralogy of Fallot and three with leakage after the surgical repair of VSD). The mean age of patients was (6.4 +/- 3.9) years (ranged from 1 to 18 years). The mean body weight of patients was (22 +/- 11 )kg (ranged from 9 to 78 kg). The mean diameter of VSD measured by TTE was (4.3 +/- 1.5) mm(ranged from 2 to 8.5mm). The path of artery to vein was established following X-rays and TTE. Occluder was released through the right heart system. All patients were followed up in 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after procedure of TTE, X-ray and electrocardiography.
RESULTThe devices were deployed successfully in 85 patients, the rate of success was 95.5%. No death occurred during and after the procedure. There was trivial residual shunt in 12 patients immediately after the closure by TTE and angiography. Twenty-four hours later, only 3 patients had trivial residual and no shunt existed after 6 months follow-up. Convulsion occurred in 1 case due to serious cardiac arrhythmias. Hemolysis was found in 2 cases. Other complications included 2 cases of complete left bundle branch block, 1 cases of left anterior fascicular block and 3 cases of incomplete right bundle branch block. They recovered after 3 to 7 days of corticosteroid treatment. After 1 to 36 months (mean 9 months) follow-up, none of occluders displacement occurred and no valve was involved.
CONCLUSIONTranscatheter closure of membranous VSD using occluder would be safe and effective for children, and the results of short-term was satisfied. Transcatheter closure of VSD following TTE is a feasible method. TTE has the potential benefit of avoiding general anesthesia and esophageal intubation in children.

OBJECTIVETo assess the effect of the balloon valvuloplasty for congenital valvular aortic stenosis (AS) in children.
METHODSA total of twenty one children with AS accepted the treatment of percutaneous balloon aortic valvuloplasty (PBAV). One of them complicated with PDA underwent PDA closure by using Amplatzer occluder in the mean time. PBAV could not be accomplished in 3 cases because the catheter could not be advanced into left ventricle and PBAV was not performed in 2 cases due to the gradient pressures across aortic valves less than 50 mm Hg (1 mm Hg = 0.133 kPa). The procedure was completed in 16 cases. The ratios of balloon/valve were 0.98 +/- 0.04 (0.92 - 1.10).
RESULTS13 cases had more than 50% gradient reduction (81.25%), 2 had 40% - 50% gradient reduction. The follow up period ranged from 3 months to 5 years. The gradient pressures rose to more than 50 mm Hg after follow up in 3 cases and they underwent repeat balloon valvuloplasty procedure or were operated successfully. There was no moderate to severe aortic insufficiency (AI).
CONCLUSIONThe result of balloon aortic valvuloplasty showed the significant hemodynamic improvement with relative safety in pediatric patients. PBAV provides another choice in comparison with surgery.

OBJECTIVETo study the inhibitory effects of celecoxib, a cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor, on the proliferation of hepatocellular carcinoma cells.
METHODSThe in vitro inhibitory effects of celecoxib at different concentrations and for different treatment time lengths on human liver cancer cell line SMMC-7,721 were observed with MTT assay, and flow cytometry was performed to detect the cell cycle changes. The in vivo tumor inhibition effect of celecoxib was evaluated in Kunming mice bearing transplanted tumor derived from liver cancer cell line H22 transplantation.
RESULTCelecoxib significantly inhibited the in vitro growth of human liver cancer cell line SMMC-7721 in a time- and dose-dependent manner. A 36-hour celecoxib treatment (40 micromol/L) resulted in decreased SMMC-7721 cell proliferation and an increase of the cell percentage in G1 phase from 44.7% to 49.9% with decreased cell percentage in S and G(2)/M phases from 55.4% to 50.1%. In the mice bearing H22 transplanted tumor, celecoxib showed significant inhibitory effect on the growth and local metastasis of the transplanted tumor.
CONCLUSIONCelecoxib can inhibit the proliferation of different liver cancer cell lines both in vitro and in vivo, and therefore may serve as an important candidate drug for prevention and treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2006;26(2):182-188
OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect and risk of misoprostol for stimulating cervical maturity in women with post-term pregnancy negative for insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) in cervical secretion with modified Bishop score less than 3.
METHODSSeventy-one women with post-term pregnancy randomized into misoprostol group (n=37) and control group (n=34) received misoprostol placement at the posterior vaginal fornix and routine intravenous oxytocin infusion, respectively, to stimulate cervical maturity. Failure to respond to the treatment within the initial 24 h necessitated a repeated administration for no more than 3 times in all. Modified Bishop score was recorded and fetal heart monitored once every 24 h, and IGFBP-1 in the cervical secretion was detected at 24 and 48 h after drug administration.
RESULTSThe misoprostol group showed better effect of cervical maturity stimulation than the control group (P<0.001), and the positivity rates of IGFBP-1 24 and 48 h after drug administration were significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.01 and 0.001). The number of cases with indication for cesarean section was significant higher in the control group (P<0.001). There were no significant differences in postpartum hemorrhage, excessive uterine contraction, incidence of fecal contamination of the amniotic fluid or Apgar score of the newborn between the two groups (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONSMisoprostol is safe and effective for stimulating cervical maturity in women with post-term pregnancy who have modified Bishop score lower than 3 and are negative for IGPBF-1 in cervical secretion. Oxytocin is not advised for use in such gravida for stimulating cervical maturity. IGFBP-1 in cervical secretion may serve as an important index for evaluating the cervical maturity.

Aim To investigate the protective effects of supercritical CO2 fluid extract(SFE)of Notoginseng a-gainst glutamate-induced PC12 cells damage and the underlying mechanism. Methods PC12 cells were dealt with glutamate to establish cell models. MTT as-say,LDH method,Hoschst 33342 staining,Fluo-3 /AM fluorescence staining and Western blot were used to observe the changes of cell viability, intracellular Ca2 + concentration and the expression of protein that interacted with C kinase l(PICK1)and glutamate re-ceptors 2 (GluR2),respectively. Results Glutamate was cytotoxic to PC12 cells with an inhibitory concen-tration 50(IC 50 )of 25 mmol·L - 1 . Pretreatment with SFE(25,50,100 mg·L-1)and FSC231(100 μmol ·L-1 )and SFE(100 mg·L-1 )+FSC231(100μmol ·L-1 )remarkablely improved cell viability, reduced LDH leakage, decreased apoptosis rate, debased intra-cellular calcium concentration, decreased the expres-sion of PICK1 ,and increased the expression of GluR2 . Conclusions SFE of Notoginseng shows protective effects against glutamate-induced PC12 cell damage, and its mechanism may be related to the inhibition of PICK1 and the increase of GluR2 protein expression.
