Objective:To observe the changes of visual evoked potential(VEP)in diabetic rats and the influence of nerve growth factor(NGF)and aminoguanidine(AG)on VEP.Methods:Diabetes was induced in adult male Wistar rats with streptozotocin(STZ).Rats were divided into normal control group(CON),diabetes model group(DM).NGF-treated group(D +N)and AG-treated group(D+A).VEP was measured during the 3~(rd)month,6~(th)month,9~(th)month,and 12~(th)month.Results: Compared with the CON group,all rest groups had longer latencies and lower amplitudes(P

0.05).It could also decrease the times of wet manure induced by folia sennae,while it was of no effect on diarrhea induced by castor oil. CONCLUSION: Volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu has anti-inflammation,analgesic and anti-diarrhea effect related to the cure for ulcerative colitis.

AIM: To investigate antioxidative and antinitrosative effects of volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu on dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis mice. METHODS: Balb/c mice were fed with 4% DSS solution for 7 d to induce ulcerative colitis.Using biochemical method,the activity of antioxidative enzyme SOD,MDA and NO were determined in normal,model,SASP and three mouse's groups with low,moderate and high volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu respectively.At the same time,the activity of iNOS was also measured by immunohistopathology. RESULTS: The concentration of MDA and NO were reduced and SOD increased significantly in high-and moderate-volatile oil groups compared with those in the model group.The activity of iNOS was reduced significantly in high-and moderate-volatile oil groups compared with those in the model group.The results demonstrated that the expression of iNOS was significantly inhibited in DSSinduced ulcerative colitis mice after being treated with high or moderate-dosage volatile oil. CONCLUSION: Volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu has antioxidative and antinitrosative effects which may be one of the mechanism for treating UC.

Objective To study the influence and dose effect of ultrasound on the contraction of uterine smooth muscle in rats.Methods Estradiol benzoate was injected into rats three days before conducting an in-vitro experiment.Their uteri were resected and irradiated with ultrasound(0.8 MHz,3 W/cm~2,0-40 rain).The contrac- tion frequency and amplitude were recorded using an MS-302 biological experiment system.Results It could be seen that the contraction frequency and amplitude,and general contractile activity were significantly increased during ultrasonic irradiation(P＜0.01).The increased contraction frequency and amplitude lasted for ten minutes,and then the normal contraction pattern resumed.The contraction frequency as well as the percentage change in eontraction fre- quency were highest during the first 15 minutes of ultrasonic irradiation;the contraction amplitude as well as the per- centage change in amplitude were highest during 40 minutes of ultrasonic irradiation.Contraction activity was at its highest for 30 minutes,but the percentage change in activity was highest for 20 minutes.Conclusions Ultrasound can induce uterine smooth muscle contraction in rats.This biological effect is related to the irradiation time.
