Objective To study the effect of mechanical tension on collagen arrangement and illustrate the relationship between tissue architecture and tension properties. Methods Cell morphologies, orientation and collagen arrangement of fibroblasts cultured in three different types of collagen gels with variation of mechanical tension were observed by phase contrast photomicrographs, light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Expression and distribution of a-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) were investigated by immunohistochemistry. Results Phase contrast photomicrographs, light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy showed high level of tension distributed anisotropically in the monolayer gels and the anchored collagen gels, with bipolar shape of the fibroblasts, obvious polarity, arrangement of exogenous collagen fibres parallel to the long axis of the fibroblasts, especially prominent in monolayer gels. Low level of tension distributed isotropically was observed in floating collagen gels, with stellate morphology and arrangement of exogenous collagen fibres in a reticular array. Immunofluorescence showed that fibroblasts expressed high level of α-SMA protein distributed along the long axis of fibroblasts in the monolayer gels and the anchored collagen gels, especially in former ones. In contrast, few expression of α-SMA protein was found in floating collagen gels. Cell morphologies and orientation, expression and distribution of α-SMA as well as collagen arrangement of fibroblasts in the monolayer gels and the anchored collagen gels were similar to those in granulation tissue, whereas floating collagen gels resembled normal dermis or remodelled tissues. Conclusions Tissue architecture or morphology of the dermis are corresponding to tension proporties. Different tissue architectures are closely correlated with particular tension proporties.

Both sides of the picornavirus genome have 5'-untranslated region (5'UTR) and 3'- untranslated region (3'UTR). This study demontrated that both the 5'-and 3'-UTR can form complex structures, such as stem-loop, clover and pseudoknot structure, These structures play an important role in the regulaton of the replication and translation of the viruses. This article reviewed the progress of research on the structure and function of picornavirus' 3'-UTR over recent years.

Objective To investigate the prevalence of adult osteofluomsis in the endemic fluomsis areas in Tianjin and to provide scientific foundation for endemic fluorosis.Methods Stratified sampling in 55 villages were selected in 3 areas with slight,moderate and severe fluorosis regions in Tianjin from April to June in 2008.Water fluorine were tested and clinical osteofluorosis examinations were conducted to the population aging 16 and above in the villages.Tweenty villages were selected randomly in the slight,moderate and severe fluorosis regions.X-ray osteofluorosis examination were conducted to patients and suspected patients in these 20 villages.Results The geometric mean fluoride content in the water for the 3 areas were 1.35 mg/L,3.44 mg/L,5.49 mg/L,respectively.The prevalence of osteofluorosis were 36.7%(44/120),20.6%(33/160),39.4%(43/109),respectively.The prevalence of osteofluorosis Was increased gradually(r=0.534,P<0.01)and the symptoms and signs of the disease were more serious(H=84.813,P<0.01).The prevalence of X-ray diagnosis Was increased gradually(r=0.990,P<0.01)and signs of the disease were more severe(H=25.169,P<0.01)with an increase in age.There was no statistical significance of prevalence rate of osteofluorosis between males and females,regardless if it Was a clinical diagnosis(X2=0.343,P>0.05)or an X-ray diagnosis(X2=3.532,P>0.05).Conclusions Adult osteofluorosis to a certain extent is still prevalent in the fluorosis areas in Tianjin.Endemic fluorosis is still rampant.Improving water in fulorosis areas should be mandatory.

Objective To investigate the methods and clinical significance of breast cancer treated with photodynamic.Methods From June to December in 2005,photodynamic therapy was used in 12 cases confirmed intramammary lymph node metastasis before operation and 15 cases confirmed chest wall recur- rences by means of lymph node imaging.Results The intramammary lymph node metastasis whose diameter between 0.5～1.0cm measured by lymph node imaging preoperatively completely disappeared when rechecked 3 months postoperatively.Chest wall recurrence regions of breast cancer whose diameter less than 1.0 cm completely remitted.Conclusion Photodynamic therapy is helpful to eliminate the intramammary lymph node metastasis and to cure the postoperative chest wall recurrence of breast cancer.

Objective To investigate the clinical characteristics and the imaging features of patients with hemichorea associated with hyperglycemia in primary diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical manifestations and the neuroimaging features of 2 patients with hemichorea induced by hyperglycemia in primary DM, admitted to our hospital on 9 and 29 October 2010; the related literatures about this disease were reviewed. Results These 2 patiewnts were both old female diabetics with acute onset of symptomatic hemichorea. One had an outbreak during using insulin to control blood glucose and the other did without using insulin; at first,case 2 symptom of one side chorea was showed,and then both sides were noted.CT findings indicated T1-high-density shadow in the contralateral caudate nucleus, putamen and globus pallidus (CT values in 50 Hu or so); MR imaging indicated that T1WI showed high-signal in the contralateral caudate nucleus,putamen and globus pallidus,while T2WI showed low-signal; partial light atrophy but no strengthening phenomenon in lesion location were noted. These patients were treated effectively with haloperidol and clonazepam.Conclusion Hemichorea induced by hyperglycemia often involves diabetic patients with poor glucose control. Characteristic imaging changes in the contralateral basal ganglia; blood glucose control is the foundation of treatment; haloperidol and clonazepam are helpful in controling hemichorea.

Appropriate selection and measurement of lead biomarkers of exposure are critically important for health care management purposes, public health decision making, and primary prevention synthesis. Lead is one of the neurotoxicants that seems to be involved in the etiology of psychologies. Biomarkers are generally classified into three groups: biomarkers of exposure, effect, and susceptibility.The main body compartments that store lead are the blood, soft tissues, and bone; the half-life of lead in these tissues is measured in weeks for blood, months for soft tissues, and years for bone. Within the brain, lead-induced damage in the prefrontal cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum can lead to a variety of neurological disorders, such as brain damage, mental retardation, behavioral problems, nerve damage, and possibly Alzheimer's disease, Parkinsons disease, and schizophrenia. This paper presents an overview of biomarkers of lead exposure and discusses the neurotoxic effects of lead with regard to children and adults.

ObjectiveTo evaluate correlation factors of cervical lymph nodes metastasis in thoracic esophageal carcinoma.MethodsLocal-regional metastasis of lymph node for 126 cases with esophageal squamous cell cancer after surgery from 2004 to 2009 were reviewed.Risk factors of cervical lymph nodes metastasis were examined by multiple Logistic regression analysis.ResultsIn 126 cases,supraclavicular lymph node metastasis rate was 43.7％ (55/126).By logistic regression,none of the primary site,T stage,N stage,histological grade,lymph node metastasis rate,lymph node metastasis degree and number of lymph nodes metastatic field was not the high risk of cervical lymph nodes metastasis.In addition,multivariate analysis found that lymph node metastasis in mediastinum region 1 was high risk factor for lymph node metastasis of region 1 ( x2 =12.14,9.27,P =0.000,0.002),lymph node metastasis in region Ⅲ and region 2 were high risk factors for lymph node metastasis of region Ⅱa ( x2 =14.56,8.27,8.02,3.93,P =0.000,0.004,0.005,0.047 ).ConclusionMediastinal para-recurrent nerve lymph node metastasis is a significant predictor for cervical lymph nodes metastasis.
