Objective To investigate the correlation between RDW and disease activity in patients with IBD and evaluate clinical significance of RDW as a potential indicator to monitor IBD activity. Methods 256 patients with IBD were divided into two groups. One was UC group including 136 patients with 80 active period cases and 56 emission period cases. Another was CD group including 120 patients with 75 active period cases and 45 emission period cases. 60 bacillary dysentery diseases and 80 healthy controls were selected as bacillary dysentery group and healthy control group. RDW, Hb, WBC, PLT, CRP, ESR, MCV were tested and monitored with development of disease at different stages. We compared RDW with CRP,ESR, PLT, Hb, MCV parameters. By ROC curve analysis, the sensitivity and specificity of RDW was estimated in identifying the IBD's activity. Results The mean values of RDW in active UC group, remission UC group, bacillary dysentery group and control group were ( 16. 1 ± 2. 7), ( 13.5 ± 2. 1 ), ( 13.0 ± 2. 0)and ( 12. 8 ± 1.8), respectively. There was significant difference among four groups ( F = 51.9, P < 0. 01 ).RDW in active UC group was significant higher than that in remission UC group, bacillary dysentery group and healthy control group ( t = 8. 12, 9. 67, 11.85, P < 0.05) and RDW in remission UC group was significant higher than that in bacillary dysentery group and healthy control group as well ( t = 2. 45, 2. 67,P <0. 05). The mean values of RDW in active CD group, remissive CD group, bacillary dysentery group and control group were ( 16. 9 ± 2. 2 ), ( 13. 8 ± 1.1 ), ( 13.0 ± 2. 0), ( 12. 8 ± 1.8 ). There was significant difference among four groups ( F = 113.9, P < 0. 01 ). RDW in the active CD group was significant higher than that in remission CD group, bacillary dysentery group and healthy control group (t = 11.47,18.63,18. 72, P < 0. 05 ) and RDW in remission CD group was also significant higher than that in bacillary dysentery group and healthy control group ( t = 3.60, 3. 72, P < 0. 05 ). RDW in UC and CD groups demonstrated a positive correlation with CRP and ESR (r=0. 484, 0. 525, 0. 286, 0. 358 and P<0. 01, <0. 01, < 0. 05, < 0. 01, respectively) but an inverse correlation with Hb and MCV (r = -0. 378, -0. 271,- 0. 329, - 0. 298 and P < 0. 01, < 0. 01, < 0. 05, < 0. 01, respectively). In UC groups RDW represented a larger area under ROC curve (0. 8.54) compared with CRP, ESR, PLT, Fib and MCV. When the cut-off value of RDW was 14. 0, the sensitivity and specificity for identifying active UC were 82% (65/80) and 72% (40/56) respectively. In CD groups, the area of RDW under ROC curve was the largest (0. 925 )among all indicators. When the cut-off of RDW was 14.5, the sensitivity and specificity for identifying active CD was 88% (66/75) and 82% (37/45) respectively. Conclusion RDW in patients with IBD is a useful indicator to estimate the IBD activity and predict disease progression.

OBJECTIVETo compare the effect of electro-acupuncture (EA) and maprotiline (Map) in treating depression.
METHODSThirty patients of depression were treated with EA and 31 patients with Map orally taken respectively. The therapeutic effect and side-effect were evaluated by measurement of Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD), Self-Rating Scale for Depression (SDS), Self-Rating Scale for Anxiety (SAS), Clinical Global Impression Scale (CGI) and Asberg Rating Scale for side-effects (ARS) before treatment and on the day 14, 28 and 42 of the therapeutic course.
RESULTSAfter treatment, the scores of HAMD and SDS lowered significantly (P < 0.01) than before treatment, and with insignificant difference between the group (P > 0.05). For patients with somatic syndrome, the HAMD score decrease rate was obviously higher in the Map group than that in the EA group. However, for the patients with anxiety somatization syndrome, the score of SAS, ARS in the EA group were significantly lower than those in the Map group (P < 0.05). Moreover, the efficacy index was higher in the EA group (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONBoth EA and Map are effective in treating depression.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the sociopsychological basis of hypertensive disorder in pregnancy (HDP) and explore a new pathway for etiological study of HDP.
METHODSA prospective investigation was conducted in 1154 women in second trimester pregnancy and 9 factors were surveyed using Olson marital quality questionnaire (ENRIC). The discrepancy between the norms and factor scores of ENRIC was analyzed, and the scores of ENRIC were compared between normal gravidas and patients with HDP. The correlation between ENRIC scores and the severity of the condition was also evaluated.
RESULTSThe score of the 1124 gravidas for marital satisfaction was significantly higher than the norm (P<0.05), but the scores for relationship with relatives and sexual life were significantly lower (P<0.05). The other 6 factors had similar scores with the norms (P>0.05). Patients with HDP had significantly lower scores for 7 factors than the normal gravidas (P<0.05), but had comparable scores for financial arrangement and sexual life (P>0.05). The severity of HDP was not found to associate with variation of the scores for the 9 factors (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONSMarital quality is an important social and psychological basis of HDP, and this study provides some evidence for the social and psychological investigation of the etiology of HDP.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the neurobiological characteristics of human histio-amniotic mesenchymal (hAMCs) and effect of hAMCs transplantation into the brain to treat Parkinson's disease(PD) modle mice.MethodsThe expressions of mesenchymal stem cells, neural stem cells, dopaminergic neurons and markers related to neurogenesis such as Vimentin, STRO-1, nestin, CD133, β-tubulin, TH, DAT, Ngn2 and mash-1 in hAMCs were evaluated through immunocytochemical stain; and the mRNA transcriptions of neural stem cell markers, Vimentin and nestin in hAMCs were detected by RT-PCR. The PD model was induced by MPTP(i.p.) in C57BL/6 mice transplanted with hAMCs into the right striatum. The therapeutical effect of hAMCs on PD mice was evaluated by spontaneous movement, rotating bar test and the immunohistochemistry of anti-human chondrosome and TH antibodies in striatum.ResultshAMCs induced by nerve cells culture medium, expressed mesenchymal stem cells, neural stem cells, dopaminergic neurons and other specific markers related to neurogenesis mentioned above. The frequency of spontaneous movement in PD mice was significantly increased(P<0-05), and the time of rotating bar was obviously prolonged(P<0-05) after transplantation with hAMCs.ConclusionhAMCs possess the characteristics of nerve cells after cultured in vitro and can significantly recover the damage of motor function induced by MPTP after transplantation into striatum in PD model mice.
