AIM: To investigate antioxidative and antinitrosative effects of volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu on dextran sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced ulcerative colitis mice. METHODS: Balb/c mice were fed with 4% DSS solution for 7 d to induce ulcerative colitis.Using biochemical method,the activity of antioxidative enzyme SOD,MDA and NO were determined in normal,model,SASP and three mouse's groups with low,moderate and high volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu respectively.At the same time,the activity of iNOS was also measured by immunohistopathology. RESULTS: The concentration of MDA and NO were reduced and SOD increased significantly in high-and moderate-volatile oil groups compared with those in the model group.The activity of iNOS was reduced significantly in high-and moderate-volatile oil groups compared with those in the model group.The results demonstrated that the expression of iNOS was significantly inhibited in DSSinduced ulcerative colitis mice after being treated with high or moderate-dosage volatile oil. CONCLUSION: Volatile oil from A.longiligulare T.L.Wu has antioxidative and antinitrosative effects which may be one of the mechanism for treating UC.

Objective To study the influence and dose effect of ultrasound on the contraction of uterine smooth muscle in rats.Methods Estradiol benzoate was injected into rats three days before conducting an in-vitro experiment.Their uteri were resected and irradiated with ultrasound(0.8 MHz,3 W/cm~2,0-40 rain).The contrac- tion frequency and amplitude were recorded using an MS-302 biological experiment system.Results It could be seen that the contraction frequency and amplitude,and general contractile activity were significantly increased during ultrasonic irradiation(P＜0.01).The increased contraction frequency and amplitude lasted for ten minutes,and then the normal contraction pattern resumed.The contraction frequency as well as the percentage change in eontraction fre- quency were highest during the first 15 minutes of ultrasonic irradiation;the contraction amplitude as well as the per- centage change in amplitude were highest during 40 minutes of ultrasonic irradiation.Contraction activity was at its highest for 30 minutes,but the percentage change in activity was highest for 20 minutes.Conclusions Ultrasound can induce uterine smooth muscle contraction in rats.This biological effect is related to the irradiation time.

ObjectiveTo study the correlation of urinary iodine and thyroid function in elderly men in Harbin,and to provide the basis for formulation of health measures for the elderly.MethodsSeventy five cases of clinically healthy elderly men were enrolled for check-up of urinary iodine,thyroid function and B-ultrasound in Geriatric Ward the Forth Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University in 2010.The subjects of investigation were divided into iodine appropriate and iodine sufficient groups and thyroid function parameters and B-ultrasound results were compared.ResultsThe average age of the 75 cases of healthy elderly men was (79.07 ± 4.78) years old and the median of urinary iodine was 198.4 μg/L.There were 62.67％ (47/75) elderly males whose iodine nutritional status was appropriate,but there were still some individuals(6.67％,5/75) in the iodine excess state.The level of TSH of the iodine appropriate group [(1.91 ± 0.82)mU/L] was lower than that iodine sufficient group [(4.98 ±0.60)mU/L,t =12.58,P ＜ 0.05],while the level of FT3 of the iodine appropriate group[(4.71 ± 0.56)pmol/L]was higher than that iodine sufficient group[(3.31 ± 0.43)pmol/L,t =12.18,P ＜ 0.05].But the difference of FT4between the two groups [(14.91 ± 3.12),(14.06 ± 2.79)pmol/L] was not statistically significant (t =1.40,P ＞0.05].The thyroid volume of iodine sufficient group[(20.9 ± 6.1 )cm3] was higher than that iodine appropriate group [(17.9 ± 5.6)cm3,t =2.11,P ＜ 0.05].ConclusionsSufficient quantities of iodine intake may affect the thyroid of elderly people.Whether the quantity of iodine intake of the elderly population should be decreased or not need to be further studied.

Objective To observe the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) mRNA and protein in fluoride(F~-) treated fibroblast(FB) of mice in planar(2D) and FBs populated collagen lattice(3D) culture systems and to further explore the effects of VEGF on the osteogenic action of FB. Methods FB were divided into 0 (control group), 0.0001,0.0010,0.1000,1.0000,10.0000 and 20.0000 mg/L groups(F~-). The levels of VEGF mRNA and protein at 48 h were measured by using RT-PCR, ELISA and immunohistochemistry (IHC) methods. Results The expression of VEGF mRNA increased obviously in group of 0.1000 mg/L(1.08 ± 0.09) in 3D FB compared with the control group(0.93 ± 0.02, all P < 0.05). Fluoride increased the content of VEGF protein obviously in groups of 0.1000,1.0000,10.0000 mg/L(0.19 ± 0.02, 0.26 ± 0.01 and 0.32 ± 0.01 ), higher than that in 2D FB culture supematant in the control group(0.14 ± 0.01, all P < 0.05) ; and in groups of 0.1000, 1.0000 rag/L(0.59 ± 0.06 and 0.52 ± 0.03) it was higher than that in 3D FB culture supematant in the control group(0.37 ± 0.05, all P< 0.01 ). The IHC results showed that the VEGF positive staining cells increased significantly in group of 0.001 mg/L (0.45 ± 0.05) in 2D FB when it was compared with control group(0.36 ± 0.03, P< 0.05); and in groups of 0.0010, 0.1000, 1.0000 rag/L(0.62 ± 0.04,0.70 ± 0.06 and 0.65 ± 0.07) are it was higher than that in 3D FB control group (0.44 ± 0.04, P < 0.05 or < 0.01 ). Conclusions The higher expression of VEGF mRNA and protein in 2D and 3D FB induced by fluoride may play an important role in stimulating the osteogenesis ability in FB.

Objective To evaluate the effects of a health education and behavior intervention project,and to provide.a scientific basis for brucellosis control.Methods By stratified cluster sampling method,target population from 6 township in Meilisi District were randomly selected to carry out baseline survey.Of these 6 townships 4 were selected as intervention townships,and two as control townships.A health education and behavior intervention program was carried out in intervention townships,and after intervention target population from 6 township were participated in the questionnaire survey.Results Awareness rate of common sense knowledge of farmers in intervention townships was 84.33％ (5237/6210) after intervention which was significantly higher than 53.56％ (2003/3740),before the intervention (x2 =112.49,P ＜ 0.01),and also higher than 54.15 ％ (1787/3300) of the control after the intervention (x2 =101.53,P ＜ 0.01).Average awareness rate(82.13％,2550/3105) of common sense on prevention after intervention was significantly higher than 58.77％(1099/1870) before the intervention (x2 =57.19,P ＜ 0.01).After intervention,average awareness rate of common sense on prevention was significantly higher than that of the average of control townships (70.36％,1161/1650,x2 =25.49,P ＜ 0.01).The awareness rate of treatment before intervention was 36.80％ (116/299),which increased to 76.36％ (436/571)after intervention (x2 =119.38,P ＜ 0.01).After the intervention the awareness rate of intervention townships was significantly higher than that of the controls (33.72％,88/261,x2 =139.69,P ＜ 0.01).In survey of these high-risk behavior in intervention townships,in addition to cattle and sheep which were regularly immunized in the intervention townships(35.91％,121/337),and the control townships(32.01％,97/303,x2 =1.08,P ＞ 0.05) and their difference was not significant,other processing such asapoblema,killing cattle,sheep,cattle to deliver,cutting the wool,regular disinfection,and accuracy of high-risk behavior protection were significantly higher than those of controls[89.83％(106/l18),91.07％(51/56),84.75％(150/177),66.67％(32/48),73.78％(242/328),51.22％(42/82),75.56％(34/45),33.69％(63/187),27.78％(15/54),21.63％(61/282),x2 value were 38.00,5.82,103.84,15.84 and 173.67,all P ＜ 0.05].Conclusion After implementation of health education and behavioral intervention,farmers brucellosis prevention knowledge and awareness of risk behaviors have significantly improved,which have achieved the desired effect.

Objective To investigate the influence of marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) on intercelluar adhension molecule-1(ICAM-1) in lung of neonatal rats suffered hyperoxia.Methods Marrow-derived MSCs were separated,cultured,amplificated and labeled with 5bromo 2′-deoxy-uridinel(BrdU);after suffered 95% oxygen for 7 days,24 three-day-old SD rats were randomly divided into group A,B and C,and they were injected intraperitoneally with MSCs of 1?10~4,5?10~4 PBS,respectively.Seven days later,immunocytochemisty was used to determine the expression of BrdU and ICAM-1,and value of radical alveolar counts(RAC) of lungs were counted for histopathological study under light microscope.Results Both group A and B,the labeled MSCs had been(detec)-ted in lungs,and there existed significant variance between two groups(P
