Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2016;25(3):155-165
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to construct the clear definition of the concept 'self-reliance' among persons with psychiatric disabilities. METHODS: A hybrid model (comparative analysis between literature review findings and actual interview data) was employed to extract essential components of 'self-reliance' and develop its clear definition among those subjects. RESULTS: Self-reliance appeared to have complex nature and consist of multi-dimensional meaning units with 4 different levels (including 8 attributes and 21 indicators). 4 different levels of dimensions and their 8 attributes are suggested as follows: 1) Personal dimension (increasing insight, improving motivation for recovery); 2) Procedural dimension (encouraging empowerment and overcoming internalized stigma, self-esteem); 3) Institutional dimension (utilizing social and government support, formulating social-networks); 4) Consequential dimension (financial independence, planning for independent housing, self-determination). CONCLUSION: The findings of this study will contribute to developing valid measurements to examine self-reliance and establishing nursing interventions aiming at increasing self-reliance in persons with psychiatric disabilities.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1999;40(5):1442-1450
Eye alignment is related with binocular connection in the visual cortex during critical period between postnatal 3 and 5 months. Authers examined horizontal pursuit and latent fixation nystagmus using electronystagmogram(ENG)in 6 year old female patient, who was diagnosed a congenital esotropia showing V patten esodeviation, both inferior oblique overaction, dissociated vertical deviation and head turn. In the pursuit examination, symmetric pursuit was observed under binocular viewing. However asymmetric pursuit was observed with smooth pursuit toward temporo-nasal direction and irregular saccade toward naso-temporal direction under monocular viewing. We could observe jerky nystagmus with decelerating velocity under monocular viewig, direction of which was toward fixating eye and degree of which was increased in abduction and decreased in adduction. The direction of pursuit asymmetry and nystagmus were instantaneously reversed when changing occluding eye. The results of ENG were not changed after successful strabismus surgery. We report a typical case of congenital esotropia as one of oculomotor disorders showing asymmetric pursuit and latent fixation nystagmus, which findings were proved by ENG.

Journal of Korean Academy of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing 2022;31(4):403-414
Purpose:
This study is to understand the experiences of people with serious mental illness following adjustment to independent living.
Methods:
Aphenomenological research approach was used. Research participants were recruited from community psychiatric rehabilitation centers where they received the support for successfully independent living in the community. In-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 20 research participants from September 2019 to August 2021. The collected data were analyzed using the phenomenological analysis method previously described by Giorgi.
Results:
Four major themes emerged from our analysis: (1) feeling free in everyday life changed when they started living independently; (2) being the owner of my life; (3) feeling surrounded by barriers at the start of independent living; and (4) required efforts and support for fully living independently.
Conclusion
Our study findings encourage fundamental understanding of benefits and difficulties in adjusting to independent living and the adjustment process among people with serious mental illness through in-depth analysis of their experiences. It is necessary to conduct further studies to develop interventions to support people with serious mental illness once they start living independently and instruments to measure their independence.

Journal of the Korean Cancer Association 1999;31(2):377-385
PURPOSE: Cytogenetic and genetic alterations of tumors are closely related with progressian and promotion of cancers. Comparative genomic hybridization (CGH) has known to be a novel tool for the detection of genetic alteration in solid cancers. We performed CGH for the detection of new genetic alterations of bladder tumors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Biotin-labeled tumor DNA and digoxigenin-labeled normal DNA were hybridized to normal metaphase cells. The fluorescence signals were captured by fluorescence microscope after detection by avidin FITC and antidigoxigenin rhodamin. Then, the ratio of fluorescence was calculated by an image analyzer. RESULTS: CGH results showed amplifications on chromosomes 1q, 3q, 4q, 5p, 6pq, 7p, 8q, 11q, 12q, 13q, 17q, 18q and 20pq (more than 20% of cases). Deletions were on chromosome 2q21-qter, 4q13-q23, 5q, 8p12-p22, 9pq, 11p13-p15 (more than 20% of cases). High level amplifications were noted on chromosomes 1q31-qter, 3p21, 3q24, 4q26, Sq21-qter, llq14-qter, 12q15-q21, 12q21-q24, 13q21-q31, 17q22, 18q22. CONCLUSION: We considered that the amplification on chromosome 4q26, 11q14-qter, 12q21-q24, 18q12 and deletion on 4qll-4q13 as a novel genetic alterations of bladder cancer. Our results revealed different pattem of amplifications that affect other regions from previous study on chromosome 7, llq, 12q, 13q, and 18q. CGH was very useful for the screening of genetic alterations of solid tumors.

Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery 2018;10(2):216-224
BACKGROUND: Although pedobarographic measurement is increasingly used for clinical and research purposes, relatively few published studies have investigated normative data. This study examined pedobarographic findings in young healthy adults with regard to sex-related differences and correlations among measurement indices. METHODS: Twenty young healthy adults (mean age, 22.4 years; standard deviation, 1.2 years; and 10 males and 10 females) were included. Weight bearing anteroposterior (AP) and lateral foot radiographs were taken, and dynamic pedobarographic data during treadmill walking and maximum ankle dorsiflexion were obtained. AP talo-first metatarsal angle, naviculocuboid overlap, lateral talo-first metatarsal angle, and plantar soft tissue thickness were measured on foot radiographs. Pedobarographic data including peak pressure and pressure-time integral were measured on five plantar segments: medial forefoot (MFF), lateral forefoot (LFF), medial midfoot (MMF), lateral midfoot (LMF), and heel. RESULTS: Male and female subjects significantly differed in body mass index (BMI, p < 0.001), AP talo-first metatarsal angle (p = 0.018), soft tissue thickness under the metatarsal head (p = 0.040) and calcaneal tuberosity (p < 0.001), maximum dorsiflexion during stance phase (p = 0.041), peak pressure on the MFF (p = 0.005) and LFF (p = 0.004), and pressure-time integral on the MFF (p = 0.018) and heel (p = 0.001). BMI was significantly correlated with soft tissue thickness under the metatarsal head (r = 0.521, p = 0.018) and calcaneal tuberosity (r = 0.585, p = 0.007), peak pressure on the MFF (r = 0.601, p = 0.005) and LFF (r = 0.487, p = 0.029), pressure-time integral on the heel (r = 0.552, p = 0.012), and total pressure-time integral (r = 0.755, p < 0.001). Maximum dorsiflexion demonstrated significant negative correlations with pressure-time integral on the MFF (r = −0.595, p = 0.007) and total pressure-time integral (r = −0.492, p = 0.032). Pressure-time integral varus/valgus index was significantly correlated with pressuretime integral forefoot/heel index (r = 0.472, p = 0.036). CONCLUSIONS: Sex-related differences in pedobarographic examination were observed, which could provide useful information in setting appropriate treatment goals and obtaining appropriate control data. The effects of subtalar motion in distributing plantar pressure should be investigated in a future study.

Journal of the Korean Society of Emergency Medicine 2001;12(2):194-200
Although thrombolytic therapy is one of the most effective therapeutic option for acute ischemic stroke, hemorrhagic complication still remains major concern about its application. A patient with hemoperitoneum, who previously underwent thrombolytic therapy(intraarterial urokinase infusion, IAUK) for acute ischemic stroke was treated successfully with emergency transarterial embolization for rupture of hepatocellular carcinoma. We present a rare case of rupture of hepatocellular carcinoma after intraarterial urokinase infusion for acute ischemic stroke with brief review of the literature.

Journal of Korean Academy of Community Health Nursing 2014;25(1):24-32
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to describe the prevalence of suicidal ideation and to investigate related factors contributing to suicidal ideation in elderly people with focus on comparison of gender differences. METHODS: From the database of the Fourth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES-IV), the researchers selected 3,164 old adults aged over 65. The original study was a population-based epidemiological survey of health and nutrition in a stratified multistage clustered probability design. Data were analyzed by using chi2-test and t-test and multiple logistic regression with the SPSS/WIN18.0program. RESULTS: Suicidal ideation in women (37.5%) occurred more frequently than men (17.5%). Depression, stress, restriction on activities and quality of life were significant variables of suicidal ideation in both the men and women aged 65 over. Low educational levels and economic states were significantly associated with suicidal ideation in men but not in women. CONCLUSION: The development of a suicide prevention program for elders requires different approaches to the genders respectively. It is also recommended that programs be developed that can help control the variables identified in this study along with a follow-up study for verifying the model.
