Background Wearing of orthokeratology contact lens can slow down the development of myopia,especially in childhood.However,if wearing orthokeratology contact lens for long-term affect the corneal health is worthy of consideration.Objective This study was to evaluate the security of wearing orthokeratology contact lens in children.Methods A retrospective case-observational study was adopted.One hundred and fifty eyes of 76 myopic children aged 8-15 years were enrolled in Shanghai Tenth People's Hospital during December,2009 to December,2011.Orthokeratology contact lens were worn at night for 8-10 hours daily.Area of corneal endothelial cells,density of corneal endothelial cells,coefficient of variation of corneal endothelial cells and percentage of hexagonal cells were measured before wearing and 3,6,12,24 months after wearing.Repeated measurement of single factor analysis of variance was used to evaluate the changes of corneal endothelial cells after wearing of orthokeratology contact lens.Results No significant differences were found in the area of corneal endothelial cells and density of corneal endothelial cells among the different time points (F =11.34,P＞0.05 ; F =7.16,P＞0.05).A significant difference was seen in the coefficient of variation of corneal endothelial cells at various time points in the children(F=12.70,P=0.02),and the coefficient of variation of corneal endothelial cells was 0.36±0.02 24 months after wearing lens,which was higher than 0.28 ±0.05 before wearing lens (P＜0.05).In addition,the percentage of hexagonal cells in different time points was significantly different (F=13.40,P =0.04),and the percentages of hexagonal cells at 12 hours and 24 months after wearing lens were (62±12)％ and (60±14)％ respectively,which was significantly lower than (69±12)％ before wearing lens (P＜0.05).Conclusions Wearing of orthokeratology contact lens for over one year leads to the decrease of percentage of hexagonal cells and increase of coefficient of variation of corneal endothelial cells.

Objective To determine the effect of photochemotherapy on the expression of gelatinases. Methods Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and gelatine zymography were employed to detect the effect of photochemotherapy on the expression and bioactivity of gelatinases at mRNA and protein levels respectively. Results Combination of ultraviolet A(UVA,0.8-2.0 J/cm2) and 8-methoxypsoralen(8-MOP,100 ng/mL) resulted in a decrease in the expression and bioactivity of gelatinases. Conclusion Photochemotherapy can inhibit the angiogenesis of endothelial cells through downregulating the expression and bioactivity of gelatinases.

Objective To investigate the onset of left ventricular remodeling (LVRM) after acute myocardium infarction (AMI) and its changes within 6 hours in dogs on echocardiography. Methods AMI was induced in 14 dogs by ligating the left anterior descending arteries. Eight myocardium infarcted models were successful and were sacrified for pathological study. The indices of LVRM: wall infarction thickness (WIT), the wall motion score index (WMSI), left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESV) and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) were evaluated before and 1 h, 2 h, 3 h, 4 h, 5 h and 6 h after operation. Results Compared with the pre-operation, WIT and LVEF were decreased (P<0.01), LVESV and WMSI were increased (P<0.01), and LVEDV was increased (P<0.05 or P<0.01) at every time point after operation. WIT had no significant difference at 1 h, 2 h, 3 h, 4 h, 5h and 6h after operation (P＞0.05). LVEDV, LVESV were higher (P<0.05) and LVEF was lower (P<0.05 or P<0.01) at 4 h, 5 h, and 6 h than at 1 h, and 2 h after operation. WMSI was higher at 3 h, 4 h, 5 h, and 6 h than at 1h (P<0.05). Conclusions In our experiment, LVRM occurred at 1 h after AMI in dogs. Thus echocardiography may evaluate early LVRM.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the changes of semen quality in Chinese fertile men during the past 24 years.

METHODSWe reviewed the literature on the sperm quality of Chinese fertile males published from 1985 to 2008, collected relevant data, and analyzed the changes in semen volume, sperm density, and total sperm count by linear regression.

RESULTSThere were no significant changes either in semen volume during the period of 1985-2008 (P >0. 05) , or in sperm density and total sperm count from 1985 to 1994 (P > 0.05). However, significant decreases were observed during the latter 14 years in sperm density (from 81.5 x 10(6)/ml in 1995 to 66.7 x 10(6)/ml in 2008, with a mean annual reduction of 1.40%) and total sperm count (from 257.2 x 10(6) in 1995 to 185.9 x 10(6) in 2008, with a mean annual reduction of 2. 15%) (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONThe semen quality of Chinese fertile men showed no significant changes from 1985 to 1995, but evidently declined from 1995 to 2008, which may be attributed to the aggravated environmental pollution induced by heavy chemical industry.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the prognostic effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in patients with local advanced gastric cancer.

METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed prognosis in 191 patients with advanced gastric cancer, of whom 71 were treated with NAC and 120 received surgery only between February 2007 and July 2013. Postoperative complication rate was recorded. Survival by clinicopathological features, pathological T and N stages, and histopathological tumor regression was retrospectively compared between the two groups.

RESULTSAccording to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors, none of the 71 patients in the NAC followed by surgery group showed complete response, 36 showed partial response, 25 had stable disease, and 10 had progressive disease. The chemotherapy response rate was 50.7%; the disease control rate was 85.9%. Grade 3/4 adverse events were seen in less than 20% patients, with acceptable toxicities. No difference was found in the overall postoperative complication rates between the two groups (7 versus 22 cases, P=0.18). Median survival time was significantly different, at 54 months in the NAC combined with surgery group and 25 months in the surgery-only group (P=0.025).

CONCLUSIONIn patients with operable gastric adenocarcinomas, NAC can significantly improve overall survival without increasing surgical complications.

Objective To promote the high quality nursing service,explore the measures and effects of the high quality nursing service.Methods Develop the nursing service model by the change of the stuff management,and improving the health education to patients.Results The degree of satisfaction from patients increased to 99％ and positive service consciousness increased,and the rate of nursing chaperonage decreased to 60％.Conclusions Carrying out the high quality nursing service in rehabilitation ward could improve the nursing quality.

Objective To analyze the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features of spinal epidural angiolipoma to improve the diagnostic accuracy of this tumor. Methods The MRI findings in 2 patients with histopathologically confirmed spinal extradural angiolipoma were analyzed retrospectively. Results In both of the cases, the tumors were located in the extradural space of the thoracic intraspinal canal. The spindle-shaped tumor mass extended parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spine. The lesions presented with fat and vascular signal features. One of the tumors grew through the intervertebral foramen with a dumbbell appearance, invading the adjacent diaphragma, vertebral body, pedicle of the vertebral arch and the spinous process. The other tumor consisted of some tortuous and dilated blood vessels with flow void signals. Conclusion Spinal epidural angiolipoma presents characteristic features on MRI, which is considered the best diagnostic modality for this tumor.
