Adenomyotic cyst is very rare disease, their sizes are mostly lesser 5mm. The intrauterine adenomyotic cyst may arise from progressive expansion of cyst due to progressive menstrual bleeding. Authors experienced a case of large adenomyotic cyst within myometrium occuring in a l9-year-old woman, and who was accompanied with endometriosis. The cyst was about 3 x 3em sized, and had chocolate colored thick viscous contents, We experienced one case of adenomyotic cyst which was thought to be degenerated uterine myoma, so we report the case with a brief review of the concerned literatures.

Malignant germ cell tumors occur in children and young women in reproductive age, of all the germ cell malignancies, only pure dysgerminomas had a high cure rate prior to 1970. This was due to the exquisite radiosensitivity of these tumors. Multiple-agent chemotherapy has dramatically improved the pmgnosis of patients with malignant ovarian germ cell tumors. Clinicopathological analysis was performed on 21 cases of malignant germ cell tumors of the ovary, 9 cases at the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Kyung-pook National University Hospital, 4 cases, at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dong-guk University Kyungju Hospital and 8 cases, at the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dae-gu Fatima Hospital during the period 10 years from July. 19S8 to June. 1997 The results were summarized as follows: 1. The mean age of the patients was 21.8 years old, ranging from 10 to 61 years old. 2. Main initial symptoms were abdominal distension(33.3%), abdominal mass palpation(33.3%), abdominal pain(28.6%), amenorrhea(4.8%) in order. 3. Histologically, the tumors were classified as immature teratoma(57.1%), dysgerminoma(19%), mixed germ cell tumor(9.5%), endodermal sinus tumor(9.5%), embryonal cell carcinoma(4.8%). 4, According to FIGO classification Stage I was the most prevalent(57.1%) at the time of diagnosis while Stage III was forward in 48.6%, Stage II in 9.5%, and no Stage IV, 5. The 5-year survival rate was 80.4% and three patients have died of malignancy and the other 18 patients live without disease from 11 to 102 months, with a median follow-up of 34.2 months. 6. Prognostic factors of malignant germ cell tumors in this study were the clinical stage, the presence of ascites and the residual tumor mass.

Carteolol hydrochloride was compared with Timolol in view of the hypotensive effect. Forty-five normal volunteers(90 eyes) of the third decade were evaluated. Forty volunteers of experimental group were devided into two groups, -Carteolol group and Timolol one-. Carteolol group was subdevided into 1% and 2% group and Timolol one was subgrouped into 0.25% and 0.5% group, respectively. The remaining five volunteers(10 eyes) were used as control group. Double masked single dose study was done by instilling each eye solution into the one eye selected randomly. The intraocular pressure, pupil size, visual acuity, blood pressure, and pulse rate were measured before the instillation of eye solution at first and 30 minutes, 1, 2, 4, 6, and 24 hours after instillation and the statistical significance was estimated using the paired t-test. The following results were obtained: 1. In both groups of 1% and 2% Carteolol, the IOP reduction was noted since 1 hour after instillation and each maximum reduction of IOP was noted at 4 hours after instillation (29.2 +/- 5.0%, 40.4 +/- 5.0%, respectively). Instillation of higher concentrations of Carteolol and Timolol resulted in more significant pressure reduction. 2. Statistically significant IOP reduction was also noted in the contralateral eyes in each group. 3. The pupil size, visual acuity, blood pressure, and pulse rate were not significantly changed after the instillation of Carteolol ophthalmic solution and no remarkable local complication were also noted.

Recently, duplex sonography has been used as a screening test for the evaluation of carotid arterial disease. If an occlusion of atherosclerosis is located at the bifurcation of the common carotid artery or the lower portion of the internal carotid artery, the luminal change may be directly visualized on high-resolution B-mode sonography or color-Doppler images. But when the lesion is located at the high cervical, petrous or cavernous protion of the internal carotid artery, it is difficult to directly visualize the lesion with the sonography. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the indirect changes on the Doppler patterns of both common carotid arteries with clamping of an internal carotid artery. Thirty common carotid arteries in fifteen normal rabbits were examined with duplex ultrasonography using high-resolution real-time imaging and 7.5MHz pulsed-wave Doppler flow measurements with velocity waveform analysis. Systolic velocity (SV) was 45.4±8.4cm/sec, end-diastolic velocity (EDV) 15.3±4.9cm/sec and resistative index(RI) 0.66±0.08 in the common carotid artery before clamping of the internal carotid artery. SV was 26.3±7.8cm/sec, EDV 6.0±5.2cm/sec and RI 0.78±0.18 in the ipsilateral common carotid artery and SV was 56.6±13.0cm/sec, EDV 22.3±8.2cm. sec and RI 0.61±0.10 in the contralateral common carotid artery after clamping of the internal carotid artery. During clamping of the internal carotid artery, the difference between SV of bilateral common carotid arteries was 30.3±13.8cm/sec and EDV 16.3±9.2cm/sec. There was no difference of the velocity patterns of the common carotid artery between preclamping and declamping of the internal carotid artery. In conclusion, lower SV and EDV in a common carotid artery than that in contralateral side on Doppler patterns strongly suggests an occlusion of ipsilateral internal carotid artery.

Postpartum thyroiditis is a common but frequently unrecognized disorder, affecting approximately 5% of women during the first 12 months after delivery. It is characterized by transient hyperthyroidism occurring about 14 weeks postpartum followed by transient hypothyroidism at 19 weeks postpartum. Our aim is to investigate the prevalence of positive antimicrosomal antibody in women 3 months postpartum and an association of antimicrosomal antibody with symptomatic and biochemical thyroid disorders. We used data collected from 205 women who visited Dankook University Hospital in 3 months postpartum, Our results showed that the rate of positive antithyroid microsomal antibody was 12.7% in women 3 months postpartum and the prevalence of biochemical hyperthyroidism and biochemical hypothyroidism with positive antithyroid microsomal antibody women 3 months postpartum were 26.9% and 19.2%, respectively. The prevalence of postpartum biochemical thyroid dysfuncion 3 months postpartum was 13.7%. There was no relationship between any of the following factors and thyroid antibody status: fetal distress, birth weight and infant sex, matemal age, experiences and mode of delivery, previous medical disease(such as pstrointestinal and psychotic diseases), experiences of previous abortions, gestational age and past history of thyroid diseases.

Iron deficient state occurs commonly in the athlets, and the cause may be inadequate iron intake, loss of iron from sweat, blood loss of gastrointestinal tract, and hematuria. The age of the athletes ranged from 11 to 17 years old. I messured red blood cell count, hemoglobin, hematocrit, and related hematologic factors in the 32 adolescent female athletes and 21 female controls. a hematologic comparison was perfomed between the athletes and controls. The results obtained were as follows: 1) A value of hemoglobin were 11.6+/-1.4g/dl in the athletes and 12:4+/-0.8g/dl in controls (p<0.05). 2) Hematocrits were 34.1+/-3.4% in the athletes and 37.4+/-2.3% in controls (p<0.05). 3)A value of red bolld cell distribution width values were 13.9+/-2.1% in the athletes and 12.2+/-1.1% in controls (p<0.05). 4) Serum iron was 87.7+/-30.3ug/dl in the athletes and 121.8+/-39.0ug/dl in controls (p<0.001). 5) Total iron binding capacity was 445:6+/-31.8ug/dl in the athletes and 384:6+/-54.2ug/dl in controls (p<0.001). 6) Mean transferrin saturation values were 19.7+/-6.9% in the athletes and 32.5+/-10.8% in control (p<0.001). 7) Ferritin was 14.5+/-10.0ng/ml in the athletes and 33.9+/-13.9ng/ml in controls (p<0.001). 8) The duration of exercise was 4.8+/-2.5 years in the stage III iron deficiency, whil 3.0+/-2.0 years in normal group in iron deficient state (p<0.05).

The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) for health maintenance and disease management has been on a steady rise for more than 10 years. The number of visits to alternative care providers seems to have exceeded the number of visits to primary care providers. Most of these users are women who are frequently making decisions regarding treatment options without the advice of their physicians. The spectrum of CAM is broad and includes methods worthy of integration into our current practics, as well as ineffective or fraudulent practices that should be avoided. The management of many women's health issues can be enhanced by the integration of selected CAM approaches. Important issues of CAM use in the gynecologic field are menstrual disorders such as premenstrual syndrome and dysmenorrhea, Infertility and menopause. The purpose of this article is to provide the clinician with current information of CAM of the above mentioned gynecologic issues and to be helpful in providing benefits to patients with appropriate treatment options.

Authors experienced a 13-day-old boy who had suffered from walnut sized hard erythematous nodules on left axilla, anterior and posterior aspect of the neck which began to develop 9 days after birth. Histopathologic findings revealed subcutaneous fat necrosis and needle-shaped cleft in several fat cells. The skin lesions spontaneously resolved at 2 months of age. The clinical pattern, the skin manifestations, and the histologic appearance of the lesions were diagnostic of subcutaneous fat necrosis of newborn.
