1.Two cases of Dandy-Walker syndrome
Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1982;18(2):207-211
Two cases of Dandy-Walker syndrome are reported with emphasis on CT findings. The Dandy-Walker syndrome is known to be a developmental anomaly, which is a congenital cystic dilatation of the fourth ventricle due to atresia of foramen Magendie and possibly also foramen Luschka, associated with some form of vermian dysgenesis. The CT findings of one case reveal huge cystic mass in midline of the posterior cranial fossa with small compressed cerebellar hemisphere in the lateral portion, associated with hydrocephalus. The other shows semilunar-shaped cystic mass in posterior cranial fossa with anteriorly displaced cerebellum, which communicates with apparent fourth ventricle through the vallecula. Both cases show no inferior.

Korean Circulation Journal 1995;25(6):1183-1188
BACKGROUND: There has been a change in the causes of aortic stenosis when comparence of rheumatioc aortic stenosis in recent year. Therefore, we studied the etiology factor of pure aortic stenosis. METHODS: The gross surgical pathologic features of the aortic valves were reviewed in 92 patients with pure aotic stenosis whom underwent aortic valve replacement at Yonsei University, Cardiovascular center between July 1989 and June 1994. RESULTS: The three most frequent causes were 1) calcification of congenital bicuspid valve in 30%, 2) degenerative calcification of aortic valve in 22%, 3) rheumatioc valvular change in 48%. The mean age at the time of aortic valve replacement for the entire series of patients was 54.4 years. The range of age was from 18 years to 77 years. Males predominated for degenerative disease and congenital bicuspid valves, but there were reversed rheumatic origin. One or more complications occured in 17% of patients undergoing operation. The surgical mortality was 3.3%. CONCLUSION: Our data suggest that more common cause of aortic stenosis is non-rheumatic disease rather than rheumatinc origin.

We report three cases of rat mite dermatitis caused by Ornithonysus bacoti(Hirst, 1913), commonly referred to it as the tropicalrat mite. The first case, a 26-year old female had multiple pinhead sized vesicles with peripheral erythematous macule on the upper arms. The second case, a 34-year-old femal had multiple variable sized vesicles with erythematous base on the extremeties. The third case, a 43-year old male had multiple erythematous macules and papules with central punctum on the trunl: and extremities. Histopathologic sections from lesions of the first and second patient showed moderate perivascular lymphahistiocytic infiltration intermingled with some eosinophils. Causative mites, Ornithonyssus bacoti, female were collected around the skin lesion in rase 1, from the house dust in case 2 and furniture in case 3.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1986;22(4):574-581
Diffuse tremendous thickening of gastric wall caused by excessive proliferation of the mucosa of unknown causewas first decribed by Menetrier in 1888. The disease is highly uncommon, but the exact preoperative diagnosis iscrucial because of the more excellent prognosis than other malignant lesions including gastric lymphoma andinfiltrative gastric carcinoma. The authors recently experienced a case of Menetrier's disease which had beendiagnosed as gastric lymphoma preoperatively. Radiologic differentiation is not impossible between this extermelyrare disease and other mimicking malignant lesions, that is the reason why we introduce radiographic findings ofthe case by comparison with gastric lymphoma of giant rugal type and infiltrative gastric carcinoma. Typical upperG-I series findings of the case are: 1) Enlarged tortuous proximal gastric rugal folds only along the greatercurvature, 2) Perpendicular lines of barium spicules trapped by apposed folds with clubbed or forked appearance,3) Abrupt transition of transion to normal stomach, 4) No luminal narrowing and retained but sluggish peristalsis. Thus radiologists can diagnose Menetrier's disease scrupulously based on critical application of enlarged foldspattern and extent of the lesion in association with other radiologic features and clinial history of fairly longduration. Brief review of clinical and pathologic features about Menetrier's disease is included.

Journal of the Korean Surgical Society 2010;79(Suppl 1):S62-S66
Infantile fibrosarcoma is a rare malignant soft tissue tumor occurring especially in newborn and young children under 2 years. We experienced three cases of infantile fibrosarcoma presenting in the neonatal period. Case 1 presented with a multiseptated cystic mass on his left thigh at birth that was diagnosed as lymphangioma. After picibanil injection, we noted the size of the mass doubled and a solid lesion was prominent in the magnetic resonance image. Case 2 was found to have a reddish mass on his lower back mimicking hemangioma. Over 2 weeks, the mass grew rapidly with internal hemorrhaging. Case 3 was noted to have an encircling mass around the splenic flexure, which developed into congenital bowel obstruction. All of the tumors were resected completely, but microscopic resection margin was not clear in two patients. The two patients received adjuvant chemotherapy and all patients are well without evidence of recurrence.

7.Studies on the current epidemiological situation of brugian filariasis in endemic areas of Korea.

The Korean Journal of Parasitology 1988;26(4):255-262
An epidemiological study on brugian filariasis was carried out in endemic areas including Cheju Island in Korea, with a brief review of literatures. The results showed that the incidence among residents has remarkably decreased in Cheju Island, which was the main endemic area. Reviewing available informations on the prevalence of filariasis reported in recent years and also judging from the present socio-economic conditions which enable people to practice personal protection against mosquitos, it can be said with confidence that filariasis has almost disappeared from Cheju Island and inland areas. The disease is considered to remain at a low level of endemicity in Hugsan Islands. Certainly mass diethylcarbamazine (DEC) treatment carried out in Cheju Island in the 1960s and 1970s and remarkable economic growth followed by improved living standard and altered life-style of inhabitants could all have combined effects on the disappearance of this mosquito-borne diseae in this island. If the present trends go on, the possibility of resurgence of filariasis in Cheju Island is hardly postulated.

9.Diagnosis and Treatment of Local Radiation Injury.
Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2003;46(10):889-897
The prognosis and medical handling of individuals exposed to external radiation depend upon whether the whole body has been exposed, or the exposure was localized. It is very important for the prognosis and choice of treatment to know how the absorbed dose has been distributed within the body. The dose distribution depends on the condition of exposure and the circumstances of the accident. Local radiation injury (LRI) is much more frequent than whole body exposure (WBE) and hence described in detail in a variety of literature. LRI caused by high doses of radiation (> or = 8~10 Gy) produces signs and symptoms similar to a thermal burn except for the striking delay in the onset of clinical changes, from several days to a week or longer. The severity of LRI depends not only on the dose and type of radiation, but also on the location and size of the area exposed. In general, the higher the dose received, the more rapid the development of pathological symptoms and the more severe the prognosis. Therefore, diagnosis and prognosis should be based upon various parameters, besides the clinical observation, such as dosimetry, reconstruction of the accident, thermography, scintigraphy, etc.

Journal of the Korean Radiological Society 1995;33(1):93-96
There has not been any report on massive air-containing liver abscess in diabetic patients, although emphysematous cholecystitis or pyelonephritis is a well-known complication in them. Authors report two cases of emphysematous liver abscess in diabetic patient, which showed typical findings of massive air-containing hepatic abscess on ultrasonography and computed tomography, but very poor progrosis in spite of immediate and successful percutanoeus drainage procedure.
