1.A Case of Peutz-Jegher's Syndrome.

A case of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome was experienced with melanin pigmentation in the oral cavity and lips associated small intestine polyposis. Diagnosis of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome was established by clinical characteristics of skin and X-ray studies of gastrointestinal tracts.

2.The Effects of Long-Term Training of Aerobic Exercise on Some Risk Factors of Cardiovascular Disease.

25 males, aged 40-60 years, who participated in aerobic-type exercise on moderate intensity(60~85% of MHR), 3~5 days a week for 6~12 months were selected. Data were obtained at pre- and post-participation of tranining period for height, weight, girths of chest and abdomen, body fat, BP, HR, serum cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL-cholesterol, glucose, uric acid, BP and HR during graded treadmil exercise, and VO2max. After training for average 38.4 weeks, significant reductions occured in percent of body fat, HR and SBP both at rest and exercise, triglyceride, but not in cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol. And DBP, HDL-cholesterol were elevated. VO2max was increased apparantly by 16.4%. From the results was concluded that training of aerobic exercise could reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by 1) decreasing myocaridal oxygen demand, 2) improving on lipid profile, 3) increasing cardiac work capacity.

5.Analysis of the patterns of bronchial obstruction at bronchography

Of the bronchographic findings of 408 patients, performed in our hospital for recent 5 years, 108 cases showed definite bronchial obstruction, and 61 cases of those were selected and their obstructive findings were evaluated. All that not confirmed were abandoned. For evaluation of the reliability of 9 bronchographic obstruction signs onappplying to diagnose malignant or benign pulmonary diseases, each sign was identified and applied to each of the61 confirmed cases. In addition, obstructed bronchi, distance of obstruction from the bifurcation site, and thedirection of meniscus, if peresent, were evaluated. The reuslts were follows; 1. The most frequent cause ofbronchial obstruction was lung cancer (59.0%), and that of the benign obstruction was pulmonary tuberculosis(13.1%). 2. Amputation, asymmetric narrowing, thumbprint indentation, rat-tail narrowing and encasement signs werethe most accurate signs of malignancy and were practically diagnostic ones, 3, The most frequent sign in lungcancer was sharp cut off one, but it could be seen in lung abscess and in unresolved pneumonia, too. 4. Circumferential symmetric narrowing and regular concavity with a small central profection signs were specific onesto benignancy. 5. The most frequent obstruction sign in benign lung disease was gradual tapering sign, but it alsocould be seen inbronchogenic epidermoid and alveolar cell carcinoma. 6. Of all bronchial obstructions, 55.4% occurred at lobar bronchus and 77.4% of those were caused by lung cancer. 7. 77.2% of those obstruction which located within 3 times distance of the bronchial diameter at the nearest proximal bifurcation site, were lungcancer, but 75.0% of those located at over 3 times distance were benign pulmonary diseases. 8. There were nocorrelation of the direction of the meniscus at the obstructing and in differential diagnosis between benign andmalignant pulmonary diseases.

9.Electron Microsopic study of Diabetic Preretinal Membranes.

We conducted electron microscopic observation of twenty diabetic preretinal membranes removed during vitrectomy. Membranes were composed of many different types of cells and vessels and intercellular substance. Vessels of develping stage had forming narrow lumen and endothelium showed pinocytic vesicles and apical microvilli, and surrounded with vascular pericytes and multilayed basement membrane. Vessels of mature stage had large lumen and endothelium was flat. In vessels of regressing stage, lumen was obstructed with plug of red blood cells and endothelial cells were degenerating with abundant residual bodies. Pericytes also showed degenerative change. Most of junctions between endothelial cells wer tight junciton in all stage of vessels, but incomplete form of tight junction with open intercellular cleft was found more frequently in vessels of immature stage. Cells found in membranes were fibroblast, macrophage, myofibroblast, fibrous astrocyte in frequency. Extravascular plasma cell and polymorphonuclear leukocytes were observed occasionally. Intercellular substance was lagely composed of mature collagen. These results suggest incomplete endothelial junctions may be partly responsible for permeability of diabetic new vessels, and degenerated endothelium and pericyte may contribute to vitreous hemorrhage.
