Computed tomography (CT) is considered the most sensitive method for the detection of intraocular foreign bodies (IOFBs).The purpose of this study was to evaluate a new method of 3-dimentional (3D) localization of IOFBs that takes advantage of the anatomical structure of the optic nerve and to assess the clinical outcomes using this new method.Twenty-two trauma patients with IOFBs or suspected IOFBs admitted to our hospital were scanned with multislice CT (MSCT) between July and December 2003.All scanning was performed with a 16-row spiral CT in axial plane using a sequential scanning protocol.During the scanning, the eyeball of the patient was kept stable and was not allowed to rotate internally or externally.Section collimation was set at 16 mm × 0.75 mm.Table feed was 12 mm.Reconstruction index was 0.75 mm.After scanning, the reconstructed images were loaded into a workstation to create the multiplanar reconstruction images with the aid of the 3D software. We compared the localization results with the operative findings.Multiplanar reconstruction images showed IOFBs in all 22 patients.IOFBs occurred in the eyeball of 14 patients,in the wall of the eyeball of 5 patients and in the posterior orbits of 3 patients.Different surgical procedures were designed according to the localization by this new method and all IOFBs were successfully removed. All of these foreign bodies were metallic and the localization of IOFB using MSCT was consistent with that found by operative findings. It was suggested that MSCT is a simple and effective imaging modality for the localization of IOFBs.In our study,we localized the IOFBs more quickly and accurately by taking advantage of the fixed position of the intraocular segment of the optic nerve, and determined the necessary surgical parameters.

OBJECTIVETo study the microanatomy of the perforating arteries in the superior space of the internal carotid artery visualized through a pterional approach.
METHODSTwelve (24 sides) perfused cadaver heads were dissected via the pterional approach, and the perforating arteries in the superior space of the internal carotid artery were studied under microscope. The diameter, course and distribution in the anterior perforated substance of the perforating arteries were recorded.
RESULTSAll the perforating arteries exposed lied on the side of the brain tissue. The carotid bifurcation on 8 sides had perforating arteries, and 11 sides showed medial lenticulostriate artery of the middle cerebral arteries, with short course and overlapped with another perforating arteries upon entry into the anterior perforated substance. On 4 sides, the medial lenticulostriate artery coincided with the perforating arteries in A1. All 24 sides showed middle lenticulostriate artery and lateral lenticulostriate artery of the middle cerebral arteries. Most of the lenticulostriate arteries originated from the anterior segment of the bifurcation of the middle cerebral arteries. The earlier bifurcation occurred in M1 of the middle cerebral arteries, the more perforating arteries originated. On 22 sides, the anterior cerebral arteries had perforating arteries with many branches, and fewer perforating arteries in a main artery were associated with greater diameter of them.
CONCLUSIONThe superior space of the internal carotid artery allows a space for operation, and in some cases, part of the medial leticulostriate arteries and A1 perforating arteries can be severed to obtain larger space for the operation.

To explore the effect of a tyrosine-kinase inhibitor STI571 and P21(WAF) gene clone on the proliferation, cycle, apoptosis of leukemia cell line K562, P21(WAF) gene was obtained by RT-PCR, and its sequence was approved to be correct, then P21-pcDNA3.1 vector was constructed and transfected into K562 cell line. After selected with G418, P21-pcDNA3.1-K562 cell clone that stably expression P21(WAF) was isolated. P21(WAF) protein was identified by Western blot. The survival rate were tested by MTT. Cell cycle and apoptosis were tested by flow cytometry. The results showed that the expression of P21(WAF) protein could be detected by Western blot in P21-pcDNa3.1-K562 cells. A strong inhibition of cell proliferation was observed in P21-pcDNA3.1-K562 cells as compared with that of the control. The cells cycle were arrested in G(0)/G(1) phase. The percentage of apoptosis was declined slightly after P21-pcDNA3.1-K562 cells were combined with STI571, meanwhile its survival rate declined more slowly than that of K562 cell with STI571. In conclusion, P21(WAF) inhibits the proliferation of K562 cell, meanwhile slightly inhibits its apoptosis induced by STI571and decrease its sensitivity to STI571.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2006;26(11):1603-1608
OBJECTIVETo study the anatomical and morphological characteristics of the venous spaces involved in surgery via transsphenoidal approach to the cavernous sinus (CS).
METHODSTen fixed cadaver heads (six male, four female) with red and blue latex injected in the arteries and veins, respectively, were used to perform the transsphenoidal approach. The anterior wall of the sphenoidal sinus and the floor of sellar turcica were opened as much as possible to expose the dura mater at the sellar floor and the inferior wall of CS, and the location of the anterior and inferior intercavernous sinuses were observed carefully. All the spaces of CS were observed and measured. According to the observations, the venous spaces available for operation were identified and analyzed.
RESULTSIn all the cadaver heads, 4 anterior and 5 inferior intercavernous sinuses were found, with the former locating below the optic protuberance, while the latter situated at the turn of the sellar protuberance at the clival indentation. CS was subdivided into medial space, inferolateral space, and dorsolateral space.
CONCLUSIONSIn transsphenoidal approach, opening of anterior and inferior intercavernous sinus is liable to result in intra- and postoperative venous bleeding, and understanding of the location of the intercavernous sinus and appropriate utilization of these CS may help reduce intraoperative vascular and nerve injury.

OBJECTIVETo study the commodity specification and grade standard of Pseudostellaria Radix, for standardizing market order and achieving industrialization, standardization and modernization of Pseudostellariae Radix.
METHODThe different areas and grade medicinal materials of Pseudostellariae Radix were respectively measured in quantitative characteristics of appearance, and the present grade classification of Pseudostellaria Radix was scientifically verified by the content of polysaccharide. Then the determination data were evaluated by spss correlation analysis, principal component analysis and cluster analysis. So combining with the actual production, the commodity grade standard of Pseudostellariae Radix was formulated.
RESULTCorrelation analysis indicated that the present grade classification of Pseudostellaria Radix was reasonable, and the more the grade of Pseudostellariae Radix was high, the more the content of polysaccharide was high. Meanwhile, length as a classification index was not suitable for the commodity grade standard of Pseudostellariae Radix. Using principal component analysis and cluster analysis, combining actual production, the thickest diameter, weight of single root tuber and the number of 50 g root tuber were filtrated and the grade was divided into 5 ranks: big, mid- dle, small selected goods, big ungraded goods and small ungraded goods.
CONCLUSIONthe commodity specification and grade standard of Pseudostellariae Radix that mainly included the thickest diameter, weight of single root tuber and the number of 50 g root tuber was formulated, the standard was divided into 5 grade. Each grade was not only consistent with the present situation of medicinal materials market, it could also reflected the intrinsic quality of Pseudostellariae Radix. In conclusion, the standard could be used as a classifica- tion basis to the commodity specification and grade.

Objective To investigate the relationship between apolipoprotein E (APOE) genotype and onset of hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage (HICH). Methods One hundred and twenty-eight patients with HICH,admitted to our hospital from September 2007 to December 2010,and 84 healthy controls clinically flee from neurology disease were chosen in our study.A POE genotype was determined using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP); the distribution ofAPOE genotype and allele fiequency between the 2 groups were compared; the age of onset, gender, blood pressure, blood fat, bleeding part and size of haematoma in patients with different APOE genotype were further studied. Results The subjects with smoking hobby, diabetes history and higher concentrations of TC and LDL-C in the HICH group were obviously more than those in the control group (P<0.05).As compared with those in the controls, the distributions of the APOEε3/4 and APOEε4 in the HICH group were significantly higher, and the distributions of the APOEε3/3 and APOEε3 in the HICH group were significantly lower (P<0.05). The APOEε3/4 and APOEε4 carriers enjoyed higher percentages of onset age less than 45 years and superficial haematoma than A POEε3/3 and the A POEε3 carriers. The onset systolic blood pressure in APOEε3/4 and APOEε4 carriers was obviously lower than that in A POEε3/3 and A POEε3 carriers (P<0.05). The plasma concentrations of LDL-C and TC in APOEε3/4 and APOEε4 carriers was significantly higher than those in APOEε3/3 and APOEε3 carriers (P<0.05). Conclusion The APOE genotype influences the onset of HICH, and its influence factors included onset age, blood pressure, blood fat and bleeding part, which may concern with the cerebral artherosclerosis or amyloidosis.
