Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2007;27(2):147-149
"Bazhen Prescription" is composed of acupuncture at bilateral Hegu (LI 4) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6) with reinforcing method, functioning supplementing qi and blood, which is a commonly-used prescription for treating the diseases with deficiency of qi and blood. This is a proved recipe summarized by tens years' clinical practice of the author's grandfather and farther, and is a basic recipe for general treatment, treatment based on TCM differentiation and supplementing both qi and blood, with functions similar to Chinese medicine "Bazhen Decoction". Practice proves that for all the diseases and syndromes of deficiency of qi and blood, if only differentiation of syndromes is correct, satisfactory results will be obtained. In the present paper, the source, composition of acupoints, manipulation, function and indications, clinical application of the recipe are introduced.

To explore the effect of a tyrosine-kinase inhibitor STI571 and P21(WAF) gene clone on the proliferation, cycle, apoptosis of leukemia cell line K562, P21(WAF) gene was obtained by RT-PCR, and its sequence was approved to be correct, then P21-pcDNA3.1 vector was constructed and transfected into K562 cell line. After selected with G418, P21-pcDNA3.1-K562 cell clone that stably expression P21(WAF) was isolated. P21(WAF) protein was identified by Western blot. The survival rate were tested by MTT. Cell cycle and apoptosis were tested by flow cytometry. The results showed that the expression of P21(WAF) protein could be detected by Western blot in P21-pcDNa3.1-K562 cells. A strong inhibition of cell proliferation was observed in P21-pcDNA3.1-K562 cells as compared with that of the control. The cells cycle were arrested in G(0)/G(1) phase. The percentage of apoptosis was declined slightly after P21-pcDNA3.1-K562 cells were combined with STI571, meanwhile its survival rate declined more slowly than that of K562 cell with STI571. In conclusion, P21(WAF) inhibits the proliferation of K562 cell, meanwhile slightly inhibits its apoptosis induced by STI571and decrease its sensitivity to STI571.

OBJECTIVE:
To explore the effect of calming the liver and suppressing the hyperactive YANG drugs on the lymphocyte protein and clinical efficacy in the hypertension patients with hyperactivity of liver-YANG, and to identify the therapy.
METHODS:
Twenty-six hypertension patients with hyperactivity of liver-YANG were treated by calming the liver and suppressing the hyperactive YANG drugs for 2 courses. Symptoms of Chinese medicine and blood pressure were observed, and the separated lymphocyte total protein of normal and hypertensions before and after the treatment were examined by the solid-state pH gradient 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis. The differences of the protein expression were analyzed by ImageMaster 2DE analysis software with two-way patterns.
RESULTS:
The total efficiency rate of calming the liver and suppressing the hyperactive YANG drugs was 88.5%, and the drugs could significantly relieve the symptoms, such as headache, dizziness, dry mouth, irritability, etc. Calming the liver and suppressing the hyperactive YANG drugs could also remarkably reduce the blood pressure, with significant different between pre-treatment and post-treatment (P<0.05). The average spots of lymphocyte gel proteins in the normal and the hypertension patients with syndrome of hyperactivity of liver-YANG before and after the treatment were 527+/-41,559+/-62, and 543+/-59, respectively. Compared with normal people, the expression of 15 proteins was down-regulated, and 10 up-regulated in the hypertension patients with syndrome of hyperactivity of liver-YANG. Compared with the pre-treatment, the expression of 12 proteins was increased in the 15 down-regulated proteins, and 6 decreased in the 10 up-regulated proteins after the treatment in the hypertension patients with syndrome of the hyperactivity of liver-YANG.
CONCLUSION
Calming the liver and suppressing the hyperactive yang drugs may mildly depress the blood pressure and improve the symptoms of Chinese medicine. The effect of drugs in treating hypertension may probably be associated with regulating the expression of some proteins in lymphocytes.

OBJECTIVETo discuss the diagnosis and treatment of primary hepatic carcinoid tumor (PHCT).
METHODSReport one case of huge PHCT treated in February 2004, and search the other 19 cases which were published from January 1994 to December 2006 in the Chinese biological and medical literature database. The clinical manifestation, pathological findings, diagnosis and treatment of these 20 PHCT patients were analyzed retrospectively.
RESULTSThe main symptoms were abdominal pain or discomfort (8 cases) and abdominal mass (7 cases), cases with typical carcinoid syndrome were rare (3 cases). Immunohistochemical staining was positive for neuron-specific enolase, chromogranin A and synaptophysin in most cases. Sixteen cases received operation, among which there were 13 removed completely, other 4 cases were treated by transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE).
CONCLUSIONSThe definite diagnosis of PHCT depends on pathological and histochemical findings. Complete surgical resection is the best treatment for PHCT with favourable prognosis. TACE is also effective for nonoperative cases.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effects of health Qigong Wuqinxi exercise on mild depression in college students and analyze the changes in hydrogen proton magnetic resonance spectra (H-MRS) in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus after the exercise.
METHODSFifty-eight volunteer college students, including 30 with mild depression and 28 healthy students, were randomized into the intervention group and non-intervention group. The students in the intervention group were asked to practice health Qigong Wuqinxi training for 12 weeks and those in the non-intervention group did not engage in such training. For each subject, BECK Depression Self-reported questionnaire (BDI), Hamilton Depression rating scale (HAMD) score, and the metabolic parameters ofH-MRS in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus were evaluated before and after the intervention.
RESULTSBefore the intervention, the scores of BDI and HAMD in the depression group were significantly higher than that in the control group (P<0.01), and were lowered obviously after the 12-week intervention (P<0.01). Compared with the control group,H-MRS in the depression group before intervention showed significantly increased NAA/Cr value in the left prefrontal cortex, Cho/Cr value in the bilateral hippocampus and the left frontal lobe, and Cho/Cr value of the left hippocampus and right frontal lobe (P<0.05) with significantly lowered NAA/Cho value in the bilateral prefrontal and Cho/NAA value in the right hippocampus (P<0.05). After 12 weeks of intervention, NAA/Cr value in the bilateral hippocampus and the NAA/Cho value in the right hippocampus were significantly lowered (P<0.05), and NAA/Cho value in the right prefrontal and Cho/NAA value in the right hippocampus were significantly increased (P<0.05) in the depression group. Before the intervention, Pearson correlation analysis showed that the scores of HAMD and BDI were positively correlated with Cho/Cr value in the hippocampus and NAA/Cr value in prefrontal lobe (P<0.01) and inversely with NAA/Cho in prefrontal lobe and Cho/NAA value in the hippocampus (P<0.05); after the intervention, the scores of HAMD and BDI were positively correlated with NAA/Cr value in the hippocampus and Cho/Cr value in the left hippocampus (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONExercise of health Qigong Wuqinxi can reduce depression scale scores in patients with mild depression and improve the metabolic indexes (NAA/Cr and Cho/Cr values) in the prefrontal cortex and the hippocampus.
