Objective To explore the role of Survivin and Fas in the tumor cells′ invasion and metastasis and to evaluate whether they can be used as a reliable predictor for diagnosis and a new treatment pattern for therapy.Methods Thirty paraffin-embeded material of nephroblastoma were collected.The control group was composed of 15 specimens of normal kidney tissue acquired from paratumor region of the material.Immunohistochemistry methods was used to detect the stain of Survivin and Fas proteins in normal kidney and nephroblastoma specimens,compared them with clinical stage,pathology type and the outcome.Results Positive expression rate of Survivin in tumor specimens and significantly higher than that in control group(53.3% vs 0,P

Objective:To investigate the efficacy and safety of video assisted thoracic surgery and thoracic surgery in the treatment of myasthenia gravis.Methods:60 patients with myasthenia gravis were selected and randomly divided into two groups.The observation group(32 cases) received video assisted thoracic surgery.The control group(28 cases) received thoracic surgery.The efficacy and safety of video assisted thoracic surgery and thoracic surgery in the treatment of myasthenia gravis was evaluated by perioperative indexes,QMG scores before operation,after 3 months,6 months operation and complications during 6 months follow-up.Results:During the perioperative period,there was no statistical significance in the operation time between two groups(P＞0.05).The bleeding volume of observation group was less than that of the control group (P＜0.05).The drainage time,hospitalization and incision length of observation group were shorter than those of the control group (P＜0.05).Before operation,there was no statistical significance in the QMG scores.At 3 months,6 months after operation,the QMG scores were decreased in both groups.The QMG score of observation group was lower than that of the control group (P＜0.05).During 6 months' follow-up,complications were observed in 7 cases of the observation group and 17 cases of the control group,the major complication was pulmonary infection.The incidence of complications in the control group was higher than that of the observation group (P＜0.05).Conclusion:Video assisted thoracic surgery had advantages of smaller surgical incision,faster recovery and higher safety in the treatment of myasthenia gravis.

Objective To study the effects of rehabilitation(RT)on cardiac function in cerebral infarct (CIF)patients with cardiac insufficiency(CIS).Methods Fifty-nine CIF patients with CIS were randomly divid- ed into a treatment group(T group,n=29)and a control group(n=30),and all patients were treated with routine pharmacotherapy for 2 months.In addition,RT was administrated in the T group at the same time.The grading of the New York Heart Association(NYHA)and the changes in cardiac function associated index were observed in both groups before and after treatment.Results Compared with the control group,NYHA grades,left ventricle ejection fraction(LVEF),the levels of brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)in the blood plasma,and the 6min walking range of the T group patients were all significantly improved after treatment(P＜0.05).Conclusion RT can improve car- diac function in CIF patients with CIS.

Objective To research the effects of short-term intensive insulin treatment on regaining the sensitivity of sulfonylureas in diabetes patients. Methods Thirty patients from outpatient and emergency department,including 12 male and 18 female,who took regular-dose sulfonylureas but was high blood glucose level,were selected to suspend the sulfonylureas treatment and were given the BIAsp30 to control the blood glucose level for three months,then they were stopped the BIAsp30 and took the same sulfonylureas used before.Results The average fasting blood glucose(FBG) was(9.4?7.5)mmol/L and the average postprandial 2 h blood glucose(PG2h)(or random blood glucose) was(14.2?7.2)mmol/L in 3 months before stopping the sulfonylureas.The average FBG was(5.7?0.7)mmol/L and PG2h was(7.2?1.4)mmol/L at the beginning of the insulin getting the blood glucose under control.The average FBG was(6.0?0.8)mmol/L and PG2h was (7.8?1.2)mmol/L during the insulin treatment.The average FBG was(6.1?0.6)mmol/L and PG2 h was(7.7?1.3)mmol/L at the end of the insulin treatment.The average FBG was(6.5?0.5)mmol/L and PG2h was(8.1?(0.8))mmol/L when continuing the sulfonylureas treatment in one months.It increased significantly to compare the blood glucose before the treatment of insulin to that after the treatment of insulin(P

Objective　To evaluate the effect of Naogongfude (NGFD, a traditional Chinese medicine orally administrated) on learning and memory and the expressions of synaptophysin (SY) and Tau-protein in cerebral cortex and hippocampus in aged rats and to explore the possible mechanism. Methods　Rats were divided into normal and neural disturbance groups according to the outcomes of active avoidance reaction (AAR) test, and then each group was randomly divided into control and NGFD-treated experimental groups. Animals were orally fed with NGFD for 2 months (5 ml/d) in experimental group or routinely fed in control and taken AAR and passive avoidance reaction (PAR) tests. After the rats were sacrificed, the synaptosome count, the expression of SY and Tau-protein, and the neuron apoptosis in cerebrum were examined. Results　The rats after 2-month NGFD administration had an increased AAR acquisition, obviously delayed AAR extinction and prolonged step through latency (STL) of PAR. The number of synaptosomes was raised and the immunoreactive intensity of synaptophysin was increased remarkedly, while Tau-protein immunoreactivity and apoptotic cells were decreased in cerebrum. Conclusion　NGFD does have the effect of improving brain function and putting off the aging of rat brain according to the results of behavior study and morphological observation.

Objective To explore the feasibility of culturing dermal papillae cells (DPC) of hu- man hair in a serum-flee medium,and to observe the growth characteristics of these cells.Methods Cell culture flasks (plates) were pretreated with fibronectin,and DPC (2nd passage) were incubated with Williams E serum-flee medium supplemented with insulin-transferrin-selenite (ITS).Cells were observed by an inverted phase-contrast microscope.Proliferation of DPC was evaluated with 3-(4,5-dimethylthia- zol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay and by their growth curve.Results In a serum-free medium,2nd passage DPC adhered to the flask surface within two to four hours of incubation; two to three days later,confluence,of the cells was observed,without noticeable proliferation.Four days later,cell connection was interrupted,isolated cells or cell clusters were seen,and detachment of some cells from the flask surface was observed.One to two weeks later,most cells had died.After incubation with 4% bovine serum for ten hours,cell proliferation was observed surrounding the remaining viable cell colonies. DPC growth curve showed stagnant phase and slow growth phase;however,log growth phase was not ob- served.Conclusion DPC could be successfully cultured in serum-free medium.However,the culture con- dition needs to be further optimized.

BACKGROUNDPercutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty with stent is an effective procedure for atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis. However, the decision to perform this procedure has recently raised considerable debate. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty with stent in atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis patients, especially as it relates to blood pressure control and renal function improvement.

METHODSA retrospective analysis was made of the clinical data from 125 atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis patients who underwent percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty from July 2004 to June 2008 in the Department of Vascular Surgery of Beijing Chaoyang Hospital. We compared blood pressure, number of oral antihypertensive medications, and renal function changes pre and post-procedure at 24 months follow-up.

RESULTSA total of 125 atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis patients underwent percutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty and 143 stents were placed. At 24 months follow-up, both systolic and diastolic blood pressure and the number of oral antihypertensive medications were significantly reduced (P < 0.05). Overall, the estimated glomerular filtration rate did not change significantly (P > 0.05); however, a significant increase in estimated glomerular filtration rate was observed in the subgroup of patients with a lower baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate and in the subgroup of patients with bilateral renal artery stenosis (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONPercutaneous transluminal renal angioplasty is a safe procedure for atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis patients, providing a significant improvement in blood pressure control and reduction in the number of oral antihypertensive medications.
