Objective To study the genome DNA methylation in rheumatoid arthirits(RA)and the re- lated factors of DNA methylation. Methods Twenty-first cases with RA and 20 controls were recruited to par- ticipate the study.Plasma Hcy,SAM,SAH,the MTHFR gene C677T polymorphism and the expression of LFA-1 in CD4~+T cells was measured in all patients and controls.Results①The SAM levels were lower sig- nificantly in RA groups than in controls. The SAH levels were higher significantly in RA groups than in con- trols.②There was significant inverse correlation between plasma Hcy level and SAM level(r=-0.932,P<0.01). There was significant positive correlation between plasma Hcy level and SAH level(r=0.924,P<0.01).③The expression of LFA-1 in CD4~+T cells was higher significantly in RA groups than in controls. There was a signif- icant positive correlation between LFA-1 expression level and Hcy level(r=0.557,P<0.01),a significant in- verse correlation between LFA-1 expression level and SAM level(r=-0.651,P<0.01).④The MTHFR gene mu- tation lead to dramatically increase of Hcy,SAH level and the expression of LFA-1 level in CD4~+T cells and genome DNA hypomethylation.Conclusion①Hypomethylation of genome DNA is found in most RA pa- tients.②The factors associated with genome DNA hypomethylation include MTHFR gene mutation and hyper- homocysteinemia.③The expression of LFA-1 in CD4~+ T cells is higer in RA groups than in controls, which re- lates to the DNA methylation level and the MTHFR gene C677T polymorphism.

OBJECTIVE:
To compare pattern-pulse multifocal visual evoked potential (PPmfVEP) with pattern-reversal multifocal visual evoked potential (PRmfVEP), and to investigate the symmetry of mfVEP between both eyes in normal individuals.
METHODS:
The multifocal Vision Monitor was used to observe the mfVEP. T-test and ANOVA were used to analyze P1 wave, amplitude and signal noise ratios (SNR) of two mfVEPs.
RESULTS:
The SNR and the P1 amplitude reached the maximum at the central visual field and decreased with the increase of eccentricity, and then decreased slowly. The amplitude of the PPmfVEP was significantly smaller than the PRmfVEP in the central retina, while in the peripheral retina the result was exactly the opposite. SNR and amplitude of the PRmfVEP showed no statistical difference in both eyes (P > 0.05). The variance of the amplitude at the same side of visual field was larger than that at the symmetrical visual quadrant.
CONCLUSION
mfVEP can reflect the visual function in different parts of retina objectively and exactly. PPmfVEP reflect the vision function of the central retina better than PRmfVEP. The stability of PPmfVEP is better than PRmfVEP in the central retina, while the result is opposite in the peripheral retina. The mfVEP is symmetrical in both eyes of the same individual.

OBJECTIVETo measure the permeability of human temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disc and cartilage to provide basic parameter for oral biomechanics and tissue engineering, and analyze its mechanisms of pathology and load-release.
METHODSConfined compression method was used to measure the permeability (k value) of four cadavers' TMJs, which were sampled into three parts: disc, condyle and glenoid fossa with different diameters (2 mm, 3 mm and 4 mm). All 128 samples were tested with correspond diameter indenter.
RESULTSLarger the sample diameter was, higher the k value became. The highest k value appeared in the disc while the lowest appeared in glenoid fossa.
CONCLUSIONIn normal condition, TMJ can suffer huge load by decreasing its permeability. Disc is weakest for the higher permeability, it's easy-damaged region is an initiated factor of TMJ disease.

OBJECTIVETo explore the surgical management and its results of intercondylar fractures of the humerus through approach of osteotomy of olecranon (AOO) with dual steel plate.
METHODSFrom June 2001 to March 2007, 38 patients of intercondylar fractures of humerus were treated surgically through AOO, and the fracture was reduced and fixed with dual steel plate. There were 24 males and 14 females with a mean age of 37 years (range 19 to 48 years). All cases were closed fractures. The fractures were classified according AO included 12 cases of C1, 20 cases of C2 and 6 cases of C3. The time from injured to operation was 6 hours to 14 days (means 7 days).
RESULTSThese 38 patients were followed up from 5 months to 2 years (average 12 months). The wound healing of one patient was below the mark. After the treatment of change dressings, the wound healed. Of these 38 patients, no loosening or breakage of internal fixation occurred. All the osteotomies healed in 15 weeks averagely (range 12 to 22 weeks). According to Cassebaum scoring system, the results were excellent in 15 cases, good in 17 cases, fair in 5 cases and poor in 1 case.
CONCLUSIONThe technique of dual steel plate for the treatment intercondylar fractures of the humerus through approach of osteotomy of olecranon (AOO) offers many advantages, such as sufficient exposure easy, stable fixation and earlier exercise. Functional exercise in the early period is the crucial factor of enhancing the therapeutic effect.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2004;22(3):192-195
OBJECTIVETo investigate the displacement, the position of rotation center and the stress distribution of PDL under different loading force system (Moment/Force, M/F) by simulating clinical loading force system.
METHODSA three-dimensional finite element model of upper central incisor, which consists of 945 isoparametric elements and 1,245 nodes was developed. The displacement, the position of the rotation center and the stress distribution of PDL were analyzed under 13 types of loading force system.
RESULTS1. Different force system led to different types of tooth movement. When M/F= -9.15:1, -10.30 - -10.50:1 and -10.90:1, it brought the result of controlled tipping movement, the bodily movement and the root movement; 2. The graph of the center rotation was a hyperbolic asymptotic line: Mx/Fy = -10.50 (horizontal axis) and L = 6.75 (vertical axis). Moreover, a little change of M/F between -9.15 and -10.90 led to apparent change of the position of rotation center. 3. The maximum strain and stress during the tipping movement were 1.47 x 10(-2) MPa and -2.81 x 10(-2) MPa, and during the bodily movement the results were 1.10 x 10(-2) MPa and -1.86 x 10(-2) MPa, while during the root movement were 0.96 x 10(-2) MPa and -2.58 x 10(-2) MPa.
CONCLUSION1 . Different force system (M/F) leads to different types of tooth movement. 2. It is necessary to adjust the force system accurately to obtain prescient tooth movement, especially when M/F changes between -9.15:1 and -10.90:1. 3. This study suggested that the tooth movement style and the force system (M/F) should be controlled to protect the periodontal tissue.
