This study was conducted to vitalize life through analysis on lifestyles, stress and dietary habits of male employees. For this study, questionnaire survey and physical measurements to examine BMI and waist circumference were performed with male employees in four companies located in Gyeongnam. Total 350 copies of the questionnaire were distributed and 327 ones were finally analyzed. The results of analysis on dietary life-related problems and stress were as follows. First, according to BMI, 56.9% were overweight and waist circumference recorded less than 90 cm in 90.5%. For lifestyles, 54.1%, 79.2%, 60.9% and 52.3% smoked, drank alcohol, didn't exercise and didn't sleep sufficiently. Second, for the correlation with job stress, the subjects graduating junior college or lower academic institution, production employees and sleeping insufficiently showed higher compared to the others. Analysis on the correlation with life stress found that conjugal relation stress was higher in alcohol-drinkers, the males not taking dietary supplements, those with a normal weight or more compared to underweight ones. Stress from relation with a child was higher aged 35~49 years than in those aged 20~34 years, and stress from economic life was higher aged less than 50 years, in those graduating junior colleges compared to those graduating colleges, in those sleeping insufficiently. Health life stress was found to be higher in those without religion compared to those with it such as Protestant Christianity and Catholicism, in alcohol drinkers and in those sleeping insufficiently and having a disease. Based on this, in order to improve the lifestyles and dietary habits and release stress effectively, practical nutrition education program should be carried out.

When a Jehovah's Witness patient rejects transfusion because of his religious doctrine, the anesthesiologist is required to make an important decision. Each doctor must approach his patient respecting the patient's wishes as much as possible, while still taking into account his own ethical criteria, moral judgement of the patient, and knowledge of medicine. This writer briefly examined the basis of the religious doctrine of a Jehovah's Witness advocate and consulted a scholar of the criminal court about the legal interpretation of the doctor's behavior in our present situation where no detailed judicial precedent was available. I summarized medical solution here by referring to foreign records of medical studies and case reports in the hopes that it may aid in anesthetic management of Jehovah's Witness patients.

One of the prominent signs of aging in the midface is deepening and lengthening of the nasolabial folds, which makes people look old and aesthetically unpleasing. There have been many treatment modalities to manage prominent nasolabial folds, but there is no single most effective one yet, because every method has its own efficacy and limitations. In order to select the optimal method to meet the desire of patient, several factors such as the age of the patient, his or her aesthetic needs, other aging stigmata, downtime and even economic status should be considered. In this article, treatment modalities are classified into three categories according to the extent of their invasiveness: minimally invasive, moderately invasive, and most invasive techniques. The purpose of this article is to review various methods currently used to manage prominent nasolabial folds, to describe the anatomic structures relevant to the fold formation and to help surgeons select the appropriate method for prominent folds.

PURPOSE: All nurses should provide spiritual care for their clients. It is especially important to care spiritually for cancer patients facing the crisis of life. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the concept of spirituality which is one of the basic concepts for spiritual care in cancer patients. METHOD: The subjects of this study were 8 cancer patients; 2 Christians,3 Buddhists, and 3 persons who did not have any religion. The data was collected and analyzed by Hybrid Model. RESULT: The results of this study were as follows: Dimensions of spirituality(vertical dimension connected with the absolute being, horizontal dimension related to others, existential dimension related to seeking of meaning), attributes of spirituality(dynamic process strengthened in suffering due to struggle with cancer, connectedness with the absolute being or will and belief in oneself, transcendence of reality, meaning and purpose of life, future oriented), outcomes of spirituality(intrinsic, behavioral). CONCLUSION: The spirituality of cancer patients is manifested differently by his(her) religion, age, past experiences and burden of family, and is able to be strengthened with cancer. Therefore, nurses should recognize that diagnosis and deterioration of cancer is not only a spiritual crisis but can be a good chance for spiritual growth, as well.

To affect the complete closure of the eyelids in leprosy patients with lagophthalmos, we have used various surgical methods to avoid using the temporalis transfer method. Although widely accepted as the most effective treatment for the chronic lagophthalmos patient, the temporalis transfer method creates a simultaneous involuntary closure of the eyelids while biting or chewing. This side effect creates a social stigmata which former leprosy patients wish to avoid. As a result, we have attempted to identify the most effective treatment which will also eliminate this involuntary closure of the eyelids during biting or chewing. In the upper eyelid, we performed gold plate implantation and levator muscle severing. In the lower eyelid, lateral tarsal strip, permanent medial tarsorrhaphy, horizontal shortening, cartilage grafting and alloderm graft have all been used in the treatment of ectropion. Based on our treatment of multiple patients, we now believe medial tarsorrhaphy supplemented with the various other methods mentioned above are insufficient to achieve the desired result of complete closure of the eyelids. As a result, we are now looking to a modified temporalis transfer procedure to ensure complete closure of the eyelids without the eye closing side effect.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to clarify the buffering effects of christian belief on the interactional stress process of the white-collars. METHODS: The sample of this study was 545 white-collars working in the large enterprise. The questionnaire was composed of demographic data, job stress questionnaire, global assessment of recent stress, the ways of coping checklist, Beck depression inventory, stait-trait anxiety inventory, and shepherd Scale for defferentiate Christians from non Christians. Christianity was divided nito 'Christian way of thinking' and 'Christian way of living' for deep survey and analysis. RESULTS: In recognizing life stress and job stress, there was no difference between christians and non Christian atheist. But in coping stress, there was differecne between Christians and non Christians. 'Christian way of thinking' strengthened emotion focused coping, but didn't play a buffering role in reducing stress-induced depression and anxiety of the white-collars. But 'Christian way of living' increased challenge-appraisal and strenthened problem focused coping as a consequence. Also, Christian way of living had a influence on hoping thought and seeking social support. As a result, Christian belief reduced depression and anxiety. CONCLUSION: Christian belief a buffering effect on the interactional stress process of the white-collars of large enterprises.

The name of St. Lazarus is commonly found in relation with leprosarium throughout the world but the historical background about how it has been used is less well known. Originally Lazarus was the man who was resurrected by Jesus Christ four days after his death caused by an illness. Considering the unique personal history of Lazarus, it is understandable that Lazarus was revered as the patron for patients with serious illnesses in the society of Christianity thereafter. The actual popularity of his name in Europe was from the era of Crusade in Middle Age, when the Order having its name was first founded. The Order contributed greatly for the leprous patients rapidly increased in Europe after the Crusade. Subsequently lazarhouse came to be regarded as leprosarium. At the present time, the Order is still working for the poor countries and human rights.

A cutaneous angiomyolipoma, which is also known as a cutaneous angiolipoleiomyoma, is a rare benign mesenchymal tumor. Only 18 cases have been reported in the English literature. We describe a case of an angiomyolipoma presenting on the right ear helix of a 26-year-old female. The histopathologic examination revealed a typical form of an angiomyolipoma with a proliferation of mature adipocytes. As with all previously reported cases, our patient did not present with the stigmata of tuberous sclerosis. This is the 20th reported case of cutaneous angiomyolipoma and the 3rd reported case in Korea.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: There was some technical difficulty in applying the hemoclip on the posterior wall of the body, cardia of the stomach and posterior wall of duodenum because the angle of approach was tangential. Use of transparent cap on the tip of the endoscope could reduce some of these problems. The purpose of this study was to examine the efficacy of endoscopic hemoclipping using a transparent cap. METHODS: From August 1997 to July 2000, 74 patients with bleeding peptic ulcer and stigmata of recent hemorrhage were treated with endoscopic hemoclipping. There was technical difficulty in applying the hemoclip in 18 patients and the transparent cap was used. RESULTS: There was no statistically significant difference between the patients treated with cap and the patients treated without cap in initial hemostasis rate (91.1% vs 94.4%), rebleeding rate (11.8% vs 11.7%), and permanent hemostasis rate (92.9% vs 94.4%). CONCLUSIONS: Use of transparent cap on the tip of the endoscope was an efficient method when the angle of approach was tangential.
