The choristoma is a tumor like mass of normal cells in an abnormal location. Intraoral osseous and cartilaginous choristoma is distinctly uncommon. The etiology of choristoma is unknown. It is suggested that the intraoral choristoma is a developmental lesion. Correct diagnosis can be obtained only after histopathologic examination. The treatment of choice is surgical excision. We present a case of osseous and cartilaginous choristoma, occurred on the tongue base and treated by peroral excision, with review of the literatures.

Osseous choristoma is a rare, benign proliferative osseous lesion, which is defined as the growth of normal tissue in an abnormal location. The etiopathogenesis for its formation is unknown, but various hypotheses have been proposed. Treatment of choice is en-bloc resection, and no recurrence has been reported. Here, we report the two cases of osseous choristoma, presented with a mass on the base of the tongue with/without globus symptom and were treated with surgical excision.

Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2002;43(12):2593-2597
PURPOSE: To report a case of episcleral cartilaginous single tissue choristoma attached to pterygium with literature review. METHODS: A-65-year old woman had a pterygium. we found hard and movable mass attached to pterygium over medial rectus muscle when we excised pterygium. Excisional biopsy was done. RESULTS: This mass was confirmed as episcleral cartilaginous single tissue choristoma.

Tongue osteocartilaginous choristoma is the disease that there are well-developed bone and cartilage in the tongue. This article reported a case of tongue osteocartilaginous choristoma in the oral-cavity,which is rare.

Korean Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery 1999;42(2):255-257
The term "choristoma" is used to describe a mass of histologically normal tissue presenting in an aberrant site. The authors have experienced a case of lingual osseous choristoma in a 17-year-old female patient, which was totally removed and followed up for 12 months without any evidence of recurrence or developments to other disease.

Dermoid is a kind of choristoma and rare congenital benign tumor. It is ugly in appearance and especially dermoid appears at corneal limbus. The above 2 cases which we report invade cornea and it is especially giant compared with the report which has been reported untill now.

Complex choristoma with a predominance of lacrimal gland tissue is known as unusual congenital and developmental abnormality. Several cases of ectopic lacrimal gland have been reported in Korea. But complex choristoma with ectopic lacrimal gland on both eyes has never been reported. The authors have experienced a case of complex choristoma with ectopic lacrimal gland in lower and lateral quadrant of bulbar conjuntiva on both eyes in a 12-year-old boy.

9.Complex Choristoma Including Scleral and Episeleral Cartilage.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1987;28(2):421-426
Choristoma is a congenital abnormal growth of tissue with components which are not characteristic of the location. Most choristomas often affect tissues of one germinal layer, mainly ectodermal layer, but complex choristoma contains two or more choristomatous tissues(ectodermal, mesodermal and rarely entodermal tissue) except lacking pilosebaceous apparatus. We experienced a case of large bilateral saccular complex choristomas including scleral and episcleral cartilage in the upper part of cornea, limbus and sclera, which was confirmed histopathologically.
