1.Influence of exposure and closure on the postmortem oxygen consumption of the rabbit cornea.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 1965;6(2):41-44
Oxygen consumption of the rabbit cornea was determined by Warburg direct method in exposed and compared with covered. Six, twelve, twenty-four, forty-eight and seventy-two hours after death, respectively, 8 corneas (4 corneas were exposed and other 4 corneas were covered) from each series were used for QO2 measurment and compared with fresh corneas. The results were as follows; 1) Oxygen consumption of fresh corneas were found to be about 0.79 micro IO2/mg (dry wt.)/hr and there was no significant difference between both eyes. 2) Until twelve hours after death, oxygen consumption in covered group was greater than in exposed group. 3) Twenty-four hours after death, exposed group consumed more oxygen than covered group and QO2 volume tended to increase in the course of time, probably by bacterial growth, but statistically not significant. 4) As the results described above, it was presumed that the cornea should be preserved for keratoplasty at least within twelve hours after death of the host and covered group would be better than exposed group.

2.Juhns' Anatomical Schwa for Learning Second Languages.
Journal of the Korean Medical Association 2008;51(4):377-384
Every word has its proper schwa which is produced through the mouth by the appropriately posed or positioned chin, tongue, and neck. This proper unaccentuated vowel or syllable for the certain languages is named as Juhn's anatomical schwa. In learning 2nd languages it can be very useful and much linguistic to teach how to voice the proper schwa. In linguistics the proper schwa has been expressed by International phonetic alphabet or phonography for a long time but Juhn's anatomical schwa is defined that the unaccentuated vowel or syllable is produced by the appropriately posed or positioned chin, tongue, and neck. After birth the child grows and develops the skull to the end and the baby teeth are lost to develop the permanent teeth and the jaw joints are to be firm gradually before the age of 7. For the 7 years the child learns the mother tongue so that his facial appearance becomes alike to his tribe who speaks the same language. The chewing and swallowing is alike with each other. The jaw joints become also firm to speak mother tongue easily. Thereafter the child can voice other language schwa not enough to speak it spontaneously. This is the first idea of the Juhn's locked chin. So we can postulate that the locked chin is made to be the jaw joints as soft as those the children under the age of 7 have for L2. This is the Juhn's unlocking rule and the solution for the Juhn's locked chin. Then we can move our chin and tongue to the next step producing the schwa for the second language.

3.Occurrence of Anthracnose on Cabbage Caused by Colletotrichum dematium.
Kyungseok PARK ; Choong Hoe KIM
Mycobiology 2001;29(1):61-62
Anthracnose symptoms on young cabbages were found in cabbage nursery fields in Jangheung area of Korea in 1998. The symptoms developed on seedlings, leaves, and stems of young cabbages(Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.). The casual fungus was identified as Calletotrichum dernatium (Fr.) Grove based on morphological and cultural characteristics. Similar symptoms were observed on the cabbage when artificially inoculated on the plant leaves. The fungus was reisolated from the symptoms of the inoculated plant.

5.Clinial Study of Nevocellular Nevus in Korea.
Korean Journal of Dermatology 1977;15(3):287-295
Nevocellular nevi are benign tumors composed of nevus cells, which are peculiar to man and almost everyone has a few nevi somewhere on his body. The dermatologist has a unique opportunity to study the most common neoplaam of man, the nevocellular nevus, becasue of its ready accessibility to visual observation and its simplicity obtaining for microscopic specimen. Much has been leamed last two decades about the nature, origin, and development of the nevocellular nevus. However, most of the these knowledge obtained by investigation of Caucasians. The investigation of colored subjects are scarcely reported. This paper is an attempt to clarify 1) the clinical features of nevocellular nevi developed on Korean, colored race. 2) the incidence of pigmented nevi developed on normal individuals and vitiligo patients. During the last l0 month(1975. 3. - 1975. 12. ) 525 normal individuals and 67 vitiligo patients were randomly selected and were investigated about incidence and clinical morphology(according to Levers clinical classification) of pigmented nevi developed on different body areas. The results were summarized as follows. 1) There was average 20 nevocellular nevi in each Korean individuals. Average 23 nevi was found in male and 15 nevi in female. 2) The number of nevus and its morphology were closely related to the age of host and body areas. 3) The flat type nevi was the most common type nevi and face was the most common site among the body areas. 4) In comparison with Caucasian, it seemed no racial difference in clinical features of the pigmented nevus. 5) There was no difference between the incidence of nevocellular nevus developed on normal individual and that of vitiligo patient.

Korean Journal of Urology 1969;10(2):71-74
The number of skin graft operations following the soft tissue injuries has been increasing year after .year, as the number of industrial business is growing fast in Seoul district. We have performed one hundred and two cases of skin graft, mainly for the extremities injury in the orthopedic surgical department alone during last sixteen months (from January. l968 to Apri1, 1969) including two plastic operation for the penile skin which involves, very rarely because of an anatomical .stand point The plastic repair of penile skin was done by means of Goodwin's technic. The pedicle skin wag donated from the scrotum for the completely necrotized penile skin which was developed following the attempt of removal of the penile paraffinoma.

9.A Study on the Influences of Noise Induced Hearing Loss to the Blood Pressure.
Jong Hwa KIM ; Choong Rteol LEE
Korean Journal of Preventive Medicine 1987;20(2):205-214
For the purpose of evaluating the effect of noise induced hearing loss on the blood pressure, a cross-sectional study was conducted in 481 manufacturing industrial workers in Pusan area consisted of 275 workers from noisier plant (over 90 dB(A), high exposed group) and 206 workers from less noisy plant (below 85 dB(A), low exposed group) from April to December in 1985. The summarized results were as follows; 1) The degree of hearing loss according to the audible frequency was most notable in 4,000 Hz. 2) The prevalence of hypertension was 14.8% in total examined subjects. And also in 40 dB(A) hearing lost workers, there was no significant difference between high exposed group as 15.5% and low exposed group as 15.8%. 3) In 3 models analyzed by multiple regression technique to obtain the complexed extents of risk factors related to the diasatolic blood pressure, especially model iIII which contain age, body mass index, smoking, alcohol and family history of hypertension, duration of work, noise exposure level and degree of hearing loss in high exposed group was most remarkable compared to the others. 4) The most potential predictor related to the diatolic pressure in high exposed group was the degree of hearing loss. And the next were body mass index, familial history of hypertension and age in order. But in the case of low exposed group, the potential predictors were body mass index, age and familial history of hypertension.

10.Ultrasonography of Herniated Lumbar Disc: Pre- & Postoperative Evaluation.
Choong Hyun KIM ; Yeon Won PARK
Journal of Korean Neurosurgical Society 1989;18(7-12):1073-1077
Sonographic evaluation of the 23 patients with herniated lumbar disc was carried out via anterior approach. The most important sonographic finding of the herniated disc was posterior displacement of the ventral echogenic line. Twenty patients(87%) were coincided in the result of the preoperative sonography and myelography. Of them, 19 patients were well correlated with surgical findings. A 19 of the 20 patients with satisfactory outcome found changes on the postoperative sonogram. In conclusion, disc sonography may be the modality evaluating patients with low back pain and radiculopathy. And also, sonography will become the supplementary study of the patient who has the persistent radiculopathy following discectomy.
