Dysplasia Epiphysealis Hemimelica is a rare developmental disorder of epiphyseal growth characterized by asymmetrical cartilagenous overgrowth. This disorder was first described with the “la tarsomegalie” by Mouchet and Belot in 1926 but this name, Dysolasia Epiphysealis Hemimelica, was first proposed by Fairbank in 1956. This disorder is usually limited to either the medial or lateral half of a single extremity in childhood. It is asymptomatic until the protruding epiphyseal mass interferes joint function. The character istic abnormalities are deformities, restricted motion and pain. The most frequent finding at the initial examination is an irregular, often multicentric radiopacity, and when the lesion is matured it looks irregular, and frequently there is a lobulated osseous mass protruding from the epiphysis of tarsal and carpal bones. Diagnosis by the roentgenogram requires primarily knowledge of this condition. The lesion is often microscopically indistinguishable from an osteochondroma. A case of Dysplasia Epiphysealis Hemimelica in a 17 year old male, showing typical roentgenographic appearances, is reported together with a brief review of literature in this paper.

We present a patient who developed a pseudolymphoma after ear piercing. A patch test showed gold sensitivity. Therefore, long standing dermal exposure to gold from a pierced-type earring might have produced the patient's disease. This patient did not respond to an intralesional steroid injection and was finally treated with a complete resection of the lesion. It is proposed that every patient with a hyperplastic lesion in the ear lobe should be taken a biopsy in order to rule out the possibility of a pseudolymphoma. When a pseudolymphoma develops in the ear lobe, a complete surgical excision could be the treatment of choice, especially for the prevention of recurrence.

Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing 1999;29(1):127-138
This study was done to examine consciousness and preventive strategies of adolescent drug abuse. This study design was descriptive survey. The data were collected from 1,830 students from 32 middle and high schools from November 11 to December 20, 1997, using questionnaires. The data were analyzed using SAS computer programs. The study results are as follows : Most of adolescent get the information on narcotics and drug abuse from TV, newspaper, magazine and advertisement. Some of them(48.8%) have received education on drug prevention. However, respondents(49.3%) answered unsatisfactory on preventive education. 69.2% of respondents do not know the legal regulation on alcohol and cigarette. The survey on the degree of cognition on drug abuse shows the serious results : cigarette(79.1%), alcohol(74.1%), bonds(55.1%), gas(49.8%), excitants(48.5%), narcotics(29%), marihwana(27.8%) and, diuretics(21.9%). The situation of adolescent drug abuse is also serious in the order of alcohol 38.2%, cigarette 14.3%, marihwana 9.4%.

Frey's syndrome is a fairly common sequelae of surgery, trauma and inflammation of the parotid gland. Some patients with Frey's syndrome may be socially compromised by their gustatory sweating and flushing. In the past three decades, a variety of surgical and pharmacological methods have been unsuccessful in alleviating these symptoms. And since misdirection of auriculotemporal secretomotor nerve fibers has been found to play an important role in the development of the syndrome, a study was initiated to attempt mechnical interference with regenerating nerve fibers. Therefore, the recent trend in management of Frey's syndrome has been the use of prophylactic procedures performed at the time of parotidectomy to prevent its symptoms postoperatively. An additional benefit of this approach is prevention of the typical cheek contour deformity after parotidectomy We reviewed our experience with interposition of a vascularized temporoparietal fascial flap between the parotid bed and overlying skin immediately after complete superficial parotidectomies to prevent Frey's syndrome and hollow contour defects. The result of seven consecutive attempts revealed it to be an effective technique, achieving both goals in all patients with minimal morbidity.

BACKGROUND: When using the data based on history, ECG and cardiac enzyme, two to eight percent of patients with acute chest pain are incorrectly perceived as being at low risk and therefore sent home mistakenly. It is known that changes of Doppler parameters appear first, before regional asynergy in 2D-echocardiography, electrocardiographic change and chest pain. however, the clinical application of Doppler information in the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction remains uncertain, especially in elderly patients. METHODS: From March 1998 to March 1999, pulsed wave Doppler echocardiography was performed in patients with acute myocardial infarction within 6 hours, and Doppler parameters were evaluated. Each Doppler parameters were compared between elderly (age > or =65) and young(age < 65) groups. RESULT: E peak velocity & E/A ratio showed significant differences between two groups(p<0.05). especially, Stroke volume, isovolumic relaxtion time & myocardial performace index showed marked difference(p<0.01). CONCLUSION: Diastolic Doppler parameters of elderly group were significantly changed than younger group. however systolic Doppler parameters were relatively preserved. Among Doppler parameters, myocardial performance index is a conceptrally new, simple and reproducible Doppler index of combined systolic and diastolic myocardial performance, and it may be useful as screening test for patients with AMI in elderly patients.

Journal of Movement Disorders 2018;11(3):121-128
OBJECTIVE: Patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) frequently experience depression associated with voice problems. Singing involves the use of similar muscles and the neural networks associated with vocal function and emotional response. The purpose of this study is to enhance vocal quality and depressive symptoms of patients with PD using individual singing program. METHODS: The Individual Therapeutic Singing Program for PD (ITSP-PD) was conducted by a certified music therapist. In total, nine PD patients with a subjective voice problem or depression participated in 6 sessions over 2 weeks. We measured the Maximum Phonation Time (MPT) via the Praat test, the Voice Handicap Index (VHI), the Voice-Related Quality of Life (V-RQOL) and the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS). RESULTS: In total, 8 out of 9 patients completed all the sessions; 6 out of 8 patients participated in the follow-up test after 6 months. A statistically significant change in MPT (p = 0.011) was observed between the pre- and post-tests. The VHI (p = 0.035) and the GDS (p = 0.018) were significantly lower in the post-test. In the pre-, post-, and follow-up tests, the MPT (p = 0.030), V-RQOL (p = 0.008), and GDS (p = 0.009) were significantly changed. CONCLUSION: The ITSP-PD based on neurological singing therapy for PD showed therapeutic possibility for vocal function and depression in patients with PD. Our findings suggest the need for a randomized study to examine the continuing positive effects of the ITSP-PD over a longer period of time.
