The author studied on the 197 cases of the pleomorphic adenoma which had been diagnosed with biopsy during the period of 1985 to 1996 at the Kyungpook National University Hospital. This study contains the statistical analysis of the clinico-pathological findings such as sex, age, location, chief complaint, duration, treatment method, size, recurrence, and treatment department in relation to anatomical location. The result were as follows : 1. The treatment department in oxter were ENT(16.2%), GS(22.8%), OMFS(18.8%), PS(12.2%). 2. The incidence of pleomorphic adenoma were parotid gland(57.8%), palatal salivary gland(20.3%), submandibular gland(17.2%), other minor salivary glands(4.5%). 3. The tumors were more common in females than males, with a male to female ratio of 1 : 1.85. 4. The peak age of ocurrence was in the forth decade. 5. The duration of the most cases were less than 5 years. 6. Although the size of the tumors was variable, the incidence was highest between 3cm and 4cm(25.4%). 7. The most prevalent chief complaint was swelling(94.9%). 8. Conservative treatment was performed 30.0%, and radical treatment was employed 70.0%. 9. The recurrence rate is 8.1%, and recurrence used to be relatively common with conservative treatment. 10. The rate of malignant transformation is 1%. 11. The anatomical location has no relationship with the factors of sex, duration, and malignant transformation. 12. There was statistical significance on the anatomical location to the treatment department, age, chief complaint, size, treatment method, recurrence (P<0.05).

It has been increasingly clear that the defence against Mycobacterium leprae(M. leprae) appears mainly to depend on cell-mediated rather than humoral immune mechanism. Nevertheless, the M. leprae is not only capable of producing specific humoral antibody, but also stimulating the formation of a variety of autoantibodies, since mycobacteria are known to exert adjuvant effect. Although the exact role of the autoantibodies in the pathogenesis of leprosy is not known, it is remarkable that the prevalence of autoantibodies has been reported different by several investigators, suggesting the possibility of geographical or racial difference. This study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence of some autoantibodies in Korean patients with leprosy. Eighty patients with leprosy registered at the Department of Dermatology, Seoul National University Hospital entered this study from February, 1977 through October, 1978, The diagnosis was made by clinical, histological, bacteriological and immunological assessments and the patients were classified according to the Ridley-Jopling scale. All patients were under anti leprosy chemotherapy with DDS (Diaminodiphenylsulfone) for various periods at the time of study. Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) test was performed in 80 patients and the sera displaying reactive VDRL were subjected to re-examination by Treponema Pallidum Hemagglutinin Assay (TPHA). Rbeumatoid factor was sought by means of latex fixation test in 66 patients. Antinuclear antibody (ANA) was detected by means of latex agglutination reaction in 61 patients using polysterene latex complexed with calf thymus deoxyribonucleoprotein. Cryoprotein was detected as described elsewhere. Four of the 80 patients(5%) showed reactive VDRL, while rheumatoid factor and antinuclear antibody were not detectable in all cases. Cryoprotein was detected in 15 patients (27. 3 %). Compared with other reports on the prevalence of autoantibodies in Caucacian and African patients, we found a much lower frequency. This result may be expained partly by the racial or geographic difference in the pattern of leprosy as suggeste4 by Turk.

Fractures of the carpal navicular is a serious injury, particulary in a manual worker, because non union and the resultant disability may limit the usefulness of the extremity. There is almost unanimous agreement that fresh fractures of the carpal navicular should be treated by immobilization in a plaster cast and how immobilization should be maintained. As a result of this study we have arrived at several conclusion regarding to the conservative treatment of fresh navicular fracture.

During recent years, many investigators studied to confirm the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis but it remains obscure. However, two major proposals, the B-padrenergic blockade hypothesis of Szentivanyi and the immunological hypothesis, have been advanced. The significant role of IgE in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis was considered since the discovery of elevated IgE levels in atopic dermatitis in 1969. However, recent various reports have indicated the existence of immune defects not only in humoral but also in cellular immune status of patients with atopic dermatitis. This study was undertaken to assess the humoral and cellular immune status of patients with atopic dermatitis using in vitro immune parametera The relationship between the humoral and cellular immune status of atopic subjects and the severity of disease was examined reapectively. The effect of the corticosteroid administration on the serum IgE levels of the patients with atopic dermatitis was followed. Eighty-three patients with atopic dermatitis, diagnosed and treated at the Department of Dermatology, Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital from October, 1988 to September, 1981 and twenty-one normal healthy subjects were included in this: study. Serum lgE levels were measured by Phadebas IgE (paper radio-immunosorbent technique) and peripheral blood T-lymphocytes (early and total) wer enumerated by the E-rosette technique.

Erythromelalgia(Erythermalgia) is a syndrome of red, warm, congested, and burning painful extremities. Presently, there are three distinct clinicopathological entities: erythromelalgia, primary erythermalgia, and secondary erythermalgia. Secondary erythermalgia usually arises at an adult age either in association with a detectable underlying disorder or with the use of vasoactive drugs. Typically, it responds to proper treatment of the underlying disorder or discontinuation of the causative drugs. A seven-year-old boy presented with persisting burning pain, erythema, and warmth on both of his feet and lower legs, along with hypertension. He had had this condition for 20 months. Laboratory studies of the patient revealed increased urinary catecholamines and plasma renin activity. Various treatment modalities including aspirin, captopril, sodium nitroprusside, labetalol, epidural block, and stellate ganglion block yielded unfavorable results. Herein, we report an intractable case of secondary erythermalgia associated with hypertension in a child.
