Previously we reported the result of topical immunotherapy of warts with I -chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene(DNCB) solution using two different methods. In this study, we treated the warts with DNCB ointment and compared the therapeutic result with previous study. In addition, in order to evaluate the possible rnechanlarn of DNCB-induced wart regression by histologic rnethod, 5 regressing warts were biopsied and we observed the histopathologic findings. Thirty-six patients with various warts which were resistant to the conventional measures were treated by challeng application with 100mg% or 10mg% DNCB ointment directly on several randomly selected wart lesions after sensitization. with l?000mcg of DNCR in solution on normal skin of upper arm. In 5 pat:ients showing regression of warts, one wart lesion which was not challenged with DNCR was biopsied. The results are summarized as follows; 1. We treated the 36 patients having various warts with DNCB ointment and 25 patients (69.4%) were cured. Most(72%) of the eured warts began to regress within one month. 2. We cornpared the therapeutic result in this study with the results in theprevious study in which we used DNCB solution with two different methods, Comparing the results obtained by the R different methods, we found no statistically different cure rate, however the present method might be more convement because the ointment can be maintained longer without any change of the ingredient concentration and can be applied more easily than the solution. 3. PURPOSE: It is well known that linear growth in diabetic children is closely related to metabolic control and age of onset. Some studies showed growth retardation in diabetic children regardless of the degree of metabolic control, whereas others reported no growth impairment. Until now, no study has been done comparing linear growth between type 1 and type 2 diabetic children. Therefore, we compared the growth and weight status between type 1 and type 2 diabetic children. METHODS: 145 children with type 1 DM and 27 patients with type 2 DM were studied. Their growth status in height standard deviation score(HTSDS), obesity according to standard weight for height and body mass index(BMI), and HbA1c level at onset, 6 months, 1 year, 3 years and 5 years after treatment were compared. RESULTS: There was no distinct correlation in HTSDS in type 1 and type 2 DM, but in type 2 DM obesity according to standard weight for height and BMI was higher than in type 1 DM. deltaHTSDS 5 years after treatment of diabetic children with poor glycemic control were significantly decreased(P<0.05), but there was no significant correlation between HbA1c and obesity according to standard weight for height and BMI. CONCLUSION: There is no significant correlation between the type of diabetes and growth status, but the poor glycemic controled group showed a significant decrease in deltaHTSDS. These data suggest that the growth of diabetic children could be impaired in the case of poor glycemic control and long duration of diabetes.

BACKGROUND: The aging process may be induced, at least in part, by reactive oxygen species(ROS). It has been though that the lung could be a good source of ROS because it has a high oxygen tension. In the present study, we invetigated the inducibility of the first and last lines against oxidative stress, superoxide dismutases (Cu/Zn-SOD and Mn-SOD) as a scavenger of O2- and metallothionein(MT) as a scavenger of OH·, respectively, in mouse lungs with age. METHODS: Oxidative stress was induced by paraquat, an intracellular superoxide generator, at 1, 4, 8, and 12 months of age and then SODs and MT mRNAs were determined by RT-PCR method. RESULTS: The steady-state level of Mn-SOD mRNA increased from 1 to 8 months but decreased thereafter. However, Mn-SOD mRNA was not induced by paraquat after 1 month. On the other hand, there was no change in the steady-state level of Cu/Zn/-SOD mRNA, which decrease abruptly at 12 months of age. Additionally, Cu/Zn/-SOD mRNA was not induced by paraquat at any age. There was no change in the steady-state level of MT mRNA with age whereas its inducibility by paraquat was intact at all ages. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that lack of induction of SODs with age may be one of the causative factors in the aging process while induction of MT may play an important role in the defense against oxidative stress. It is therefore implicated that the tissue antioxidant/proxidant balance could be one determinants of meal life span.

We presented a case of perifolliculitis capitis abscedens et suffodiens associated with acne conglobata in 40-year-old rnale. He had a sausage-shaped plaque containing many fistular tracts on right temnporal area and cicatrizing alopecia on occiput. On the middle portion of upper back he had a adult fist-sized plaque containing many fistular tracts. Histopathologically epidermis showed mild byperkeratosis and keratotic plugging and in the dermis most hair follicles were destroyed and replacel by fibrous tissue but there were moderxte cellular infiltration composed of neutrophils, lymphocytes a.nd hist.iocytes around the remained hair follicles. On serum electrophoresis alpha,-globulin was elevated and gamna globulin was the upper liviit of nornal variation. Skin tests with murnps vaccine, dinitrochloro benzene (DNCB) and old tuberculin disclosed the evidence of de reased c "ll-mediated immunity(CMI). We presented two cases of bullous dermatoses in childhood. The first case was a 13-year-old boy who had numerous tense bullae on the scalp, both forearms and dorsa of hands, trunk and both thighs in symmetrical distribution, but he had not any oral lesion. On histologic examination, subepidermal bullae containing many neutrophils and only a few eosinophils were demonstrated. The lesions began to subside prornptly since 2 days after ornl administration of prednisolone and there was no evidence of recurrence during the follow-up studies of 4 months. The second case was a 14-year-old boy who had erythematous macules, vesicles, bullae and crusts scattered irregularly on almost entire body surface and had some oral lesions. Histologically erythematous macular lesions revealed many microabscesses composed almost entirely oi neutrophils on the tip of dermal papillae but vesicular lesions showed intraepidermal bulla containing numerous eosinophils exclusively. His skin lesions were well suppressed by DDS but reappeared one or two days after cessation of DDS. We thought these two cases were not the typical cases of bullous pemphigoid or dermatitis herpetiforrnis. We did not perform immunologic studies, so we cannot assure that these two cases were belong to either bullous pemphigoid or dermatitis herpetiformis and the so-called benign chronic bullous dermatosis of childhood.

BACKGROUND: Although drug eruption refers to a common dermatologieal condition, there are numerous setbacks in the diagnosis. In addition there are no annual average prevalence rates of drug eruptions according to time sequence in Korea. OBJECTIVE: This study attempts to detme the clinical features and causative drugs of drug eruptions, the diagnostic value of various skin tests and to evaluate the dome,stic annual average prevalence rate of drug eruptions according to time sequence. METHOD: 270 patients with drug eruptions were reviewed clinically. In 103 patients, intradennal, patch and scratch-patch tests were performed using suspected drugs. The annual average prevalence rate of drug eruptions was calculated from 10 different general hositals in Korea. RESULT: Exanthematous eruptions(49.3), fixed drug eruptions(30.1), and urticaria(10.0%) were the common types of drug eruptions. The common causative agents were antibiotics/antimicrobials, antipyretics(NSAIDs, and CNS depressants. 52 patients out of 103 had positive results after at least one skin test with suspected drugs. CONCLUSION: In our study, we were ahle to obtain somewhat meaningful results basnl on data from the combination of various skin tests. As a result, physicians need to prescrible drugs with care.

AIM: To compare the use of the instruments' built-in normative databases, the sensitivities of time-domain optical coherence tomography (Stratus OCT) and spectral-domain OCT(Spectralis OCT) in the detection of retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) defects in patients with glaucoma. METHODS: Fifty-two eyes of 35 patients with open angle glaucoma were included. A total of 69 hemiretinas with photographically identified RFNL defects were analyzed using the fast RNFL scan of Stratus OCT and the circle scan in Spectralis OCT. The OCT parameters were evaluated at 5% and 1% abnormality levels using the instruments' built-in normative databases. The diagnostic sensitivity of each parameter was compared between the two devices. RESULTS: The Spectralis OCT detected RNFL defects within each quadrant more frequently than the Stratus OCT at both the 5% (79 7% vs 63 8%,P=0 01) and 1% (56 5% vs 40 6%, P = 0 01) abnormality levels. At the 1% abnormality level,the sensitivity was significantly higher in the standard sector of Spectralis OCT than in the clock-hour sector of the Stratus OCT(68 1% vs 39 1%,P<0 01). CONCLUSIONS: Using the instruments' built - in normative databases, the diagnostic sensitivity of the Spectralis OCT parameters was higher than that of the Stratus OCT parameters for detecting glaucomatous RNFL defects.

The clinical observation was performed on 32 patients of acetabular fracture, who had been admitted and treated at Department of Orthopedic Surgery, College of Medicine, Busan National University from January 1980 to December 1983. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The prevalent age ranged from 20 to 50 years, which comprised 71.9% and the ratio between males and females was 2.6: l. 2. The causes of injury were 16 cases of traffic accident, which comprised the highest incidence, 10 falling down and 6 direct blow. 3. According to Letournels classification, 21 cases (65.6%) were simple fractures, llcases(34.4%) were associated fractures. 4. Total patients associated injuries of another part of body were 24 cases#{75.0%) among them pelvic bone fracture was the most common fractured case and cerebral concussion was the most common soft tissue injury. 5. 2 types of treatment were performed, one was 18 conservative treatment and the other was 14 surgical treatment which was performed by open reduction and internal fixation. 6. The satisfactory result of conservative treatment was 61.6% and surgical treatment was 85.7. 7. The complications were 7 cases(21.9) of degenerative arthritis, ectopic ossification in 2cases (6.3%), avascular necrosis, superficial infection, and secondary displacement of fracture site in 1 case(3.1%) respectively. 8. The anatomical reduction and internal fixation was an important factor in treatment of acetabular fracture, especially in severe displaced articular fracture.

With the development of body sensor technology, wearable health monitoring systems have been an emerging information technology in the 'ubiquitous health care' system. Wearable sensors enable long-term continuous physiological monitoring important in health promotion and management of many chronic disorders. In this paper, we present several wearable health monitoring systems developed by different countries and discuss emerging opportunities, as well as, existing challenges such as standardization, administration, validation, and discrepancy issues between technology and clinical implication.
