Objective To explore the relationship between socioeconomic status and the risk factors of cardiovascular diseases in retirees from a community in Shanghai. Methods Observational study involved 9 943 retirees aged 50 and over in Shanghai. Both single factor and multi-factor analyses methods were used to describe the correlation between factors as:educational level, marital status, annual household income and risk of hypertension, coronary heart disease, stroke etc. A new defined compound index was used to assess the relevance of socioeconomic status on the risk of cardiovascular diseases, based on logistic regression model. Results After adjusted for age,the risk of cardiovascular diseases in these retirees was influenced by socioeconomic status. In general, opponent correlations in education levels and prevalence of hypertension were found between female and male. Compared with those having received college or higher education, the risk of hypertension increased in females when the education level declined, with OR as 1.08(95%CI:0.89-1.30). For those having had senior high school junior high school or elementary education, the risks of hypertension were 1.26(95%CI:1.05-1.51),1.34(95%CI:1.08-1.65),0.72(95%CI:0.59-0.87),0.78 (95%CI:0.64-0.94),and 0.70(95%CI:0.52-0.92)for males, respectively. The risk of cardiovascular diseases increased with annual household income. Compared with high level of socioeconomic status, lower socioeconomic status might decline the risk of cardiovascular diseases in males by approximately 30%,with OR for medium being 0.72(95%CI:0.61-0.84)and for lower ones it was 0.70(95%CI:0.57-0.87). However, similar correlations were not found in females. No significant relationship was found between marital status and the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in this study. Conclusion The risks of cardiovascular diseases varied with different socioeconomic status, indicating that tailored interventions should be conducted in different socioeconomic groups.

Objective To examine the correlation between the gene of phosphate and tension homology deleted on chromosometen (PTEN gene) polymorphism and schizophrenia (SCZ) associated with the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM ) in Shanghai Han population. Methods The study recruited 591 long-stay schizophrenic inpatients including 304 with and 287 without type 2 diabetes mellitus, 206 patients with the type 2 diabetes mellitus and 205 normal subjects from Shanghai Han population. SNPs of PTEN gene (rs1234225, rs12569998, rs1234223) were genotyped by using Taqman genotyping. The frequency distributions of allele, genotype and haplotype between groups were analyzed. Results There were significant differences in the frequency of rs1234223 genotype (P=0.01) and allele distribution (P=0.02) between the SCZ with type 2 diabetes mellitus group and the SCZ without type 2 diabetes mellitus group. The difference of genotype frequencies remained statistically significant (P=0.03) but the allele distribution was not (P=0.06) after Bonferroni correction. Haplotype analysis showed that TTC haplotype was less common in the SCZ with type 2 diabetes mellitus group than in the SCZ without type 2 diabetes mellitus group (P=0.02). Conclusions PTEN gene may be a susceptibility gene for schizophrenia with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Chinese Han population. The TTC haplotype may be a protective factor for schizophrenia with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Objective To explore the relationship between the serum neuropeptide Y (NPY) levels and the pathogenesis, therapeutic intervention of schizophrenia. Methods One hundard twenty-five patients with schizophrenia (case group) with no medication for at least 4-week and 136 healthy controls (control group) were evaluated by Repeatable Battery for the Assessment of Neuropsychological Status (RBANS) and Positive and Negative Syndrome Scala (PANSS). Simultaneously blood tests were performed to detect serum NPY levels. In the case group, PANSS was evaluated and blood collected again after 4 weeks of treatment with olanzapine. Result At the baseline, the serum NPY concentration was significantly lower in the case group than in control group (t=-5.79, P<0.01). The scores of RBANS and its factors were significantly lower in the case group than in control group (all P<0.01). The concentration was positively correlated with the score of the attention factor for RBANS scale (r=0.20, P=0.04). After treatment with olanzapine for 4 weeks, the serum NPY level in the case group was significantly increased (t=-2.23,P=0.03).The scores of PANSS total scale and subscale were significantly decreased(all P<0.01).There was no significant correlation between alterations of the serum level of NPY and PANSS total or subscale scores from baseline to 4-week (all P>0.05). Conclusion The present study has revealed a significant decrease in serum NPY levels in patients with schizophrenia which can be attenuated by treatment of Olanzapine. The action of Olanzapine may be related to the mechanism of action of Olanzapine. However, there is no correlation between alterations of the serum level of NPY and the improvement in the patientˊs clinical symptoms.

Objective:To compare the knowledge of endoscopic screening of gastrointestinal cancers between digestive healthcare workers and new chatbots (chatGPT and new Bing). Methods:A test with twenty-three questions of endoscopic screening of gastrointestinal cancers was conducted, focusing on the appropriate age of screening, high-risk factors, the follow-up time, and the advantages and risks of digestive endoscopy. Digestive healthcare workers were invited to complete the test through electronic questionnaires. New Bing and chatGPT were used to answer each question for 10 rounds. The primary endpoint was the correct rate of all answers. The answer accuracy between digestive healthcare workers and new chatbots were compared using variance analysis, and the factors that affected the accuracy of the answers in digestive healthcare workers were explored using univariate and multivariable liner regression analysis. Results:The results of the test completed by 76 digestive healthcare workers (21 residents, 28 digestive nurses, and 27 digestive doctors) were analyzed. The accuracies were 36.4%±10.9%, 34.5%±10.2%, 52.2%± 12.6%, 46.3%±9.8% and 67.1%±9.3% in residents, digestive nurses, digestive doctors, chatGPT, and new Bing, respectively, with significant difference ( F=22.6, P<0.001). The accuracy was highest in new Bing ( P<0.001). The accuracy was comparable between chatGPT and digestive doctors (LSD- t=-1.398, P=0.166), and both higher than that of digestive nurses (LSD- t=2.956, P=0.004; LSD- t=5.955, P<0.001) and residents (LSD- t=2.402, P=0.018; LSD- t=4.951, P<0.001). Furthermore, the accuracy was comparable between digestive nurses and residents (LSD- t=-0.574, P=0.567). Compared with new Bing, digestive doctors had lower accuracy in answering questions related to adverse events of screening, follow-up recommendation of intestinal metaplasia, high risk factors and screening methods for colon cancer ( P<0.05), but higher accuracy in answering questions related to endoscopic adverse events and screening methods for esophageal cancer ( P<0.05). Multivariable liner regression analysis showed that being digestive doctors ( β=11.7, t=3.054, P=0.003) and questionnaire response time (≥7.6 min) ( β=7.8, t=2.894, P=0.005) were independent factors for the answer accuracy of digestive healthcare workers. Conclusion:Compared with digestive healthcare workers, New chatbots—new Bing has higher accuracy in answering gastrointestinal cancer screening-related questions, but performs poorly in answering questions such as adverse events of endoscopy and screening methods for esophageal cancer.

OBJECTIVETo describe the differences in diet intake frequency of adults in 10 areas surveyed by China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) project.
METHODSCKB project recruited voluntary residents aged 30-79 years from 5 urban areas and 5 rural areas in China. The baseline survey was conducted among 512 891 eligible subjects during 2004-2008. The intake frequencies of 12 food groups were assessed through in-person interviews and analyzed. The results were adjusted for age and sex structure of the study population.
RESULTSRice was the main cereal consumed every day in urban areas (99.0%) and rural areas (99.9%) in southern China, while wheat was the main cereal consumed every day in rural areas (99.0%) and Qingdao (88.4%) in northern China. Most subjects in Henan (98.8%) consumed other staple food every day. The lowest proportion of daily intake of fresh vegetables was observed in Gansu (74.0%) . In both southern and northern areas, urban subjects had higher proportions of daily intakes of fresh fruits, preserved vegetables, and meat than rural subjects. Similar results were found when comparing the proportions of intakes of poultry and fish/seafood at least 1 day every week. Contrast to southern China (urban: 6.5%, rural: 6.9%) , the proportions of daily intake of fresh eggs were higher in both urban areas (37.1%) and rural areas (14.6%) in northern China. The highest proportions of daily intake of soybean products and dairy products were observed in Harbin (10.0%) and Qingdao (34.3%).
CONCLUSIONThe intake of cereal, fresh eggs and soybean products differed between the south and the north of China. The intake of meat, poultry, fish/seafood, fresh fruits, preserved vegetables and dairy products varied considerably between urban areas and rural areas.
