1.Protective effect of melatonin against spinal cord injury from seawater immersion in rabbits

Objective To observe the protective effects of melatonin against spinal cord injury from seawater immersion in rabbits.Methods The 120 mature and health New Zealand White rabbits,weight range from 2.6 to 2.9kg,were randomly divided into four groups (30 each):control group,ethanol group,melatonin group (100mg/kg),methylPrednisolone group (30mg/kg).The rabbit model of spinal cord injury were built by modified Allen's method taking the 10th thoracic vertebra as a center,seawater immersion for 60 minutes,and then by grouping to give the appropriate treatment.After each group was given the corresponding treatment,six rabbits in each group were randomly selected at 1,6,12,24 and 48 hours five different time points.The neurological function scores of the rabbits were evaluated by Tarlov method,the spinal cord ofT9 to T.which were obtained from all the groups were used for further study,including immunohistochemical detection of apoptosis proteins:Bax,Bcl-2,neurofilament protein 200 (NF200) and in situ end labeling (TUNEL) method to detect spinal neuronal cell apoptosis.Results Within each observation time point,the Tarlov score was higher in melatonin group and methylprednisolone group compared with control group and ethanol group (P<0.05),there was no significant difference between melatonin group and methylprednisolone group (P>0.05).The expressions of Bcl-2 and NF200 were significantly higher in melatonin group and methylprednisolone group compared with control group and ethanol group,while Bax expression was significantly lower (P<0.05).There were no significant difference between melatonin group and methylprednisolone group in the expression of three proteins (P>0.05).The TUNEL-positive apoptotic cells were fewer in melatonin group and methylprednisolone group compared with control group and ethanol group (P<0.05),and there was no significant difference between melatonin group and methylprednisolone group (P>0.05).Conclusion Melatonin has protective effect against spinal cord injury from seawater immersion in rabbits,no difference in efficacy exists compare with methylprednisolone.
2.Effects of wearable electronic device-based interventions on physical activity and sedentary behavior in healthy adolescents:a meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE:Although wearable electronic devices have demonstrated potential utility as intervention tools to enhance physical activity,comprehensive evaluations of their specific effects on the healthy adolescent population remain scarce.Consequently,this article aims to systematically explore and summarize the impact of interventions based on wearable electronic devices on the physical activity and sedentary behavior of healthy adolescents,thereby providing more precise and reliable evidence-based support for public health practices. METHODS:Randomized controlled trials assessing the effects of wearable electronic device-based interventions on the physical activity and sedentary behavior of healthy adolescents were retrieved from databases including Web of Science,PubMed,Scopus,The Cochrane Library,and EBSCO.Meta-analysis was conducted using Review Manager 5.4 and Stata 17,evaluating the effects of interventions on physical activity and sedentary behavior through the standardized mean difference.To ensure the robustness of the research findings,a Leave-One-Out sensitivity analysis was conducted,and subgroup analyses were carried out to explore the potential influence of different factors on the results.The review protocol was registered with the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews(CRD42023406645). RESULTS:(1)Twelve publications were ultimately included,consisting of three randomized controlled trials and nine cluster-randomized controlled trials,involving a total of 4 933 healthy adolescents.(2)Meta-analysis results revealed that interventions based on wearable electronic devices had a positive effect on moderate to vigorous physical activity[standardized mean difference(SMD)=0.10;95%confidence interval(CI):0.04 to 0.17;P<0.05).However,the interventions did not significantly improve low-intensity physical activity(SMD=-0.15;95%CI:-0.32 to 0.02;P>0.05),daily step count(SMD=0.13;95%CI:-0.65 to 0.91;P>0.05),and sedentary behavior(SMD=0.00;95%CI:-0.09 to 0.09;P>0.05).(3)Subgroup analyses indicated that short-term interventions(≤12 weeks)(SMD=0.11;95%CI:0.03 to 0.18;P=0.008),studies using pedometers worn at the waist or hip(SMD=0.10;95%CI:0.04 to 0.17;P=0.002),and experiments registered at clinical trial centers(SMD=0.11;95%CI:0.04 to 0.17;P=0.001)had a more significant effect on enhancing daily moderate to vigorous physical activity. CONCLUSION:The current evidence suggests that interventions based on wearable electronic devices possess certain advantages in enhancing the daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity of healthy adolescents.It is recommended that interventions not exceeding 12 weeks and utilizing pedometers positioned at the waist or hip may yield more favorable results.However,the effects of these interventions on daily step count,low-intensity physical activity,and sedentary behavior exhibit some limitations.Consequently,future investigations necessitate higher-quality,larger-scale randomized controlled trials for further validation.
3.Clinical significance of unexpected antibody from IgG1 and IgG3 subtypes

[Objective] To explore the clinical significance of the IgG1 and IgG3 subtypes of red blood cell unexpected antibodies. [Methods] The IgG1 and IgG3 typing tests were performed on the IgG type alloantibodies of Rh, Duffy and Kidd blood group systems detected in our hospital. Additionally, IgG1 and IgG3 titers were measured and monocyte monolayer assay was performed on 12 cases of anti-E to analyze the characteristics of different IgG subtypes of anti-E. [Results] Among the 115 cases of unexpected IgG antibodies, 81 cases of monospecific antibodies were predominantly IgG1 (58.02%, 47/81); 17 cases of mixed antibodies were predominantly IgG1+IgG3 (47.06%, 16/34). In monocyte monolayer assays, the phagocytic rate and antibody titer of IgG1 and IgG3 antibodies were positively correlated, while in IgG1+IgG3 complex antibodies, it was mainly associated with IgG3, with higher antibody titers correlating with higher phagocytic rates. When the anti-E titers were 32 for all, the IgG1+IgG3 complex had the highest phagocytosis rate, followed by IgG3 alone, and IgG1 alone had the lowest phagocytic rate. [Conclusion] Monospecific antibodies among unexpected antibodies are primarily IgG1, while mixed antibodies are mainly IgG1+IgG3. The results of MMA indicate that the immune response caused by the IgG1+IgG3 complex is more severe. Therefore, when antibodies like anti-E coexist with other antibodies, even if the titer is low, the immune response may still be severe, which should be taken seriously in clinical practice.
4.Associations of mobile phone use with male semen quality and sex hormones

Background Experimental studies have shown that radiofrequency electromagnetic waves emitted by mobile phones can cause adverse effects on male reproductive health, including decreased semen quality and altered sex hormones. However, the results of epidemiological studies on the relationship between mobile phone use and male semen quality are inconsistent. Furthermore, there are few epidemiological studies on the association of mobile phone use with sex hormones. Objective To explore the associations of mobile phone use with male semen quality and sex hormones. Methods A total of 2045 men visited the reproductive medicine center of a hospital in Wuhan and ordered infertility examination were recruited from December 2018 to January 2020. Information on mobile phone use was obtained using a questionnaire. Among them, 1232 and 1694 men were eligible for semen quality analyses and sex hormone analyses, respectively. Multiple linear and logistic regression models were used to analyze the associations of mobile phone use with male semen quality and sex hormones. Results After adjusting for potential confounders, there was no statistically significant associations of mobile phone use with sperm progressive motility, sperm total motility, sperm concentration, sperm count, or serum luteinizing hormone (P>0.05). However, serum total testosterone showed a declined tendency with increasing daily duration of mobile phone use (Ptrend=0.08). Compared with men with daily mobile phone use of 0-2 h, men with daily mobile phone use of 2.1-5, 5.1-8, and >8 h showed decreased serum total testosterone concentrations by 6.29% (95%CI: 0.40%-11.84%), 6.01% (95%CI: 0.60%-12.19%), and 7.87% (95%CI: 0.40%-14.79%), respectively. Conclusion Mobile phone use is not associated with male semen quality and serum luteinizing hormone, but increasing daily duration of mobile phone use is potentially associated with a tendency to lower male serum total testosterone.
