The femurs of 98 Chinese fetuses were observed and measured with radiographic method. A series data of femur-length and -width of different fetal-age groups was obtained. Calculated femur index (width/length?100)showed that the proportion between the femural length and the femural width remained considerably constant dur- ing the development of the fetus. The positive correlation between the length of the femur and the C-R length was revealed by statistical analysis; a regression equation was obtained. The authors suggest that it is possible to take the femural length as a criterion parameter to estimate the fetal age.

Objective To compare the therapeutic effects between cervical and extra-cervical surgical approaches for endoscopic thyroidectomy . Methods From October 2012 to December 2013, forty-four thyroid goiter patients were divided into two groups randomly .Group A underwent modified Miccoli endoscopic thyroidectomy ( n =20 ) and group B underwent endoscopic thyroidectomy via breast areola approach ( n=24 ) .The operative time , intraoperative blood loss , pain in 24 hours postoperatively , drainage volume , postoperative hospital stay , hospital cost , complication and cosmetic results between the two groups were compared . Results Compared with group B, group A had shorter operative time [(77.9 ±28.3) min vs.(97.9 ±30.0) min, t=-2.259, P=0.029], less intraoperative blood loss [(15.9 ±8.7) ml vs.(29.5 ±16.1) ml, t=-3.384, P=0.002], less pain in 24 hours postoperatively ( no pain, endurable pain , intolerable pain in group A and B were 15, 5, 0 and 7, 15, 2 cases respectively , Z=-3.066, P=0.002), less postoperative drainage volume [(31.7 ±10.3) ml vs.(57.0 ±14.6) ml, t=-6.511, P=0.000], but poorer cosmetic results (very dissatisfied, not satisfied, satisfied, comparatively satisfied, and very satisfied in group A and B were 1, 4, 5, 6, 4 and 0, 1, 4, 5, 14 cases respectively, Z=-2.723, P=0.006).There was no significant difference in postoperative hospital stay and hospital cost between the two groups (P>0.05).One case suffered transient hoarseness in group A and one case had trembling hand due to low calcium level in group B and both of them recovered 1 month after symptomatic treatment .No permanent recurrent laryngeal nerve injury , parathyroid injury or other complications occurred in both groups . Conclusions Cervical approach is minimally invasive and leads to good cosmetic results while extra-cervical approach causes bigger trauma but leads to better cosmetic results.Patients with high cosmetic reguest may choose endoscopic thyroidectomy via breast areola approach .

BACKGROUND:Research on hand braces is relatively backward, which is difficult to be promoted widely. Zone II extensor tendon has a complex structure, and poor recovery is commonly seen after injury. The main treatment for zone II extensor tendon injury is the fixation with plaster slab, plywood and polymer materials, and up to now, there is no ideal brace for zone II extensor tendon injury.
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effect of home-made multi-function hand brace on the repair of zone II extensor tendon injury.
METHODS:Seventy-six patients with zone II extensor tendon injury were randomly divided into test group and control group, with 38 in each group. In the test group, patients were given appropriate rehabilitation education and multi-function hand brace based apart from conventional hand surgery on zone II extensor tendon; in the control group, patients underwent conventional hand surgery and guiding functional training. Total active motion of the extensor tendons of fingers were evaluated at 1, 2, 3 months after treatment; and the manual dexterity and fine motor of the hand were assessed at 2 and 3 months after treatment.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The difference in the total active motion of extensor tendons of fingers was of great significance between the two groups at 1, 2, 3 months after treatment (P < 0.05). The Minnesota manual dexterity and fine motor of the hand also showed significant differences between the two groups at 2 and 3 months after treatment (P < 0.05). Patient’s cost-effectiveness analysis results showed that the total cost of the two groups had no statistical significance (P> 0.05), but less cost was used for one point increase in the above-mentioned three functional scores of the test group than the control group (P < 0.05), indicating the implementation of cost-effective treatment. This home-made brace can prevent adhesions and anchylosis during the postoperative auxiliary exercise; meanwhile, it can improve the range of motion, flexibility and fine motor ability of the hand and has a higher cost performance in the postoperative adjuvant exercise therapy of zone II extensor tendon injury.

Objective To study effect of a novel schiff base ruthenium coordination compound on cell proliferation and apoptosis of gastric cancer SGC-7901 cell.Method Gastric cancer SGC-7901 cell were divided into four groups according to different treatment of novel schiff base ruthenium coordination compound (concentration of 10, 30, 50μmol/L) and blank group with DMSO.Cell proliferation was detected by MTT assay, cell apoptosis and cell cycle were analysed by flow cytometry.ResuIts MTT results showed the inhibitory effect of novel schiff base ruthenium coordination compound on SGC-7901 cell enhanced with the increase of its concentration, and inhibitory rates were higher than that of blank group at 24, 48, 72 h.Flow cytometry results showed the apoptosis rate of novel ruthenium coordination compound groups of 10, 30, 50μmol/L were (17.64 ±1.21)%, (26.47 ± 0.61)%, (55.63 ±1.49)%, respectively, all higher than that of blank group (P<0.05).The cell proportion of G1 phase increased with the increasing of the novel schiff base ruthenium coordination.ConcIusion A novel schiff base ruthenium coordination compound could inhibit the growth of gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells, promote apoptosis and arrest gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells at G1.

Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics of gonorrhea,and to analyze its temporal-spatial clustering in Zhejiang province.Methods Data on the incidence and demographic characteristics of gonorrhea in Zhejiang province from January 2004 to December 2012 were obtained from the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention.The population,time and space distributions of gonorrhea were described.Epidemic curve and incidence maps were drawn.A space-time permutation scan statistic was used to detect space-time clusters,and spatial autocorrelation analysis was performed to calculate the Moran's I value and draw Local Indicators of Spatial Association (LISA) cluster maps.Results In Zhejiang province,a total of 199 956 cases of gonorrhea were reported with a decreasing trend in incidence rate from 2004 to 2012.The male to female ratio was 3.51:1 (155 634/44 331).People aged between 25 and 60 years accounted for 75.21％ of these patients,whereas the constituent ratio of people aged 0-1 years and ＞ 60 years increased with time.The incidence rate of gonorrhea was significantly higher in middle and north parts than in the south part of Zhejiang province,and higher in summer than in winter and spring with the peak incidence observed in August.Thirteen temporal-spatial clusters were detected,with the large clusters in Hangzhou,Huzhou,Ningbo,Shaoxing and their neighbor counties/cities/ districts,as well as some counties/cities/districts in Jinhua.All of the above clusters lasted 4.5 years.LISA maps showed an increasing trend in high-high aggregation counties/cities/districts which spread from the north to south part of Zhejiang province.Conclusion There is a temporal-spatial aggregation of gonorrhea in Zhejiang province with young and middle-aged men as the main affected population.

Objective To evaluate the clinical application of liver shear wave velocity (SWV) in comparison with common serum score systems [AST to platelet ratio index (APRI),Forns,S index and FIB-4] in assessment of liver fibrosis in patients with chronic hepatitis.Methods A total of 237 chronic hepatitis patients with liver fibrosis confirmed by liver biopsy,who were admitted in Ningbo Second Hospital during October 2010 and April 2013,were enrolled in the study.Liver shear wave velocity were measured by acoustic radiation force impulse (ARFI),and the score of APRI,Forns,S index and FIB-4 were calculated based on the measurement of serum markers.Liver fibrosis stages were classified as S0-S4 according to the Scheuer scoring system,and stages ≥ S2 were identified as significant liver fibrosis.The diagnosis value of SWV,4 common score systems and their combination for significant liver fibrosis was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC).Results A significant linear correlation was found between SWV and the stage of fibrosis (r =0.46,P ＜ 0.01).The areas under the ROCs of SWV and 4 common score systems (APRI,Forns,S index and FIB-4) for the diagnosis of significant liver fibrosis were 0.758 (0.696-0.821),0.727 (0.662-0.793),0.777 (0.717-0.836),0.747 (0.684-0.810) and 0.737 (0.673-0.802),respectively.The area under the ROC of the combined prediction nodel established with Logistic regression was 0.810.Conclusion Liver shear wave velocity measured by ARFI is of clinical value in noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis,and the prediction accuracy can be improved when it is combined with other noninvasive indices.

OBJECTIVE:To establish a method for the simultaneous determination of ornidazole and dexamethasone sodium phosphate in Compound ornidazole film. METHODS:HPLC was performed on the column of Inertsil ODS-3 with mobile phase of methanol-20 mmol/L phosphate buffer(pH was adjusted to 7.40 with glacial acetic acid)(55∶45,V/V)at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min, column temperature was 30 ℃,detection wavelength was 242 nm and volume injection was 10 μl. RESULTS:The linear range were 1-100μg/ml for both ornidazole(r=0.999 7)and dexamethasone sodium phosphate(r=0.999 9);RSDs of precision,stabili-ty and reproducibility tests were lower than 2.0%;recoveries were 96.50%-99.80%(RSD=1.02%,n=9) and 96.50%-99.60%(RSD=0.99%,n=9). CONCLUSIONS:The method is specific with good precision and stability and high accuracy,and can be used for the simultaneous determination of ornidazole and dexamethasone sodium phosphate in Compound ornidazole film.

ObjectiveTo investigate the differences in serum levels of ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) and IMA/albumin ratio (IMAR) in patients with liver cirrhosis of various causes, as well as the significance of IMA measurement and IMAR in evaluating liver function. MethodsA total of 456 patients with liver cirrhosis who were admitted to China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University from February 2012 to February 2014 were enrolled. The patients underwent liver function evaluation, and according to the serum albumin (Alb) level, they were divided into normal Alb group (152 patients) and reduced Alb group (304 patients). According to the cause of the disease, the patients were further divided into hepatitis B virus (HBV) group, hepatitis C virus (HCV) group, and alcoholic cirrhosis group, and healthy subjects were enrolled as controls. The serum IMA level was measured for all patients with liver cirrhosis, IMAR was calculated, and the correlations of IMA and IMAR with liver function parameters and Child-Pugh score were analyzed. An analysis of variance was used for comparison of coutinuous data between groups, and the least significant difference t-test was used for further comparision between any two groups; the chi-square test was used for comparison of categorical data between group and the Spearman rank correlation was used to analyze the correlation of IMA、IMAR、Child-Puch score. ResultsCompared with the healthy controls, the patients with liver cirrhosis showed significant increases in the serum IMA level and IMAR(all P＜005), and the cirrhotic patients with hypoproteinemia had significantly higher serum IMA level and IMAR than those without hypoproteinemia(all P＜005). In addition, the patients with alcoholic cirrhosis had significantly higher serum IMA level and IMAR than those with HBV- or HCV-associated liver cirrhosis (F=6765，8276；P＜0.01). The serum IMA level was correlated with Alb, total bilirubin (TBil), international normalized ratio (INR), and cholinesterase (CHE)(r=-0510，0731,0327,-0679；all P＜005). IMAR was correlated with TBil, INR, and CHE(r=0488，0327，-0896；all P＜005). The serum IMA level and IMAR were positively correlated with Child-Pugh score(r=-0801，0899；all P＜005). ConclusionPatients with liver cirrhosis experience a reduced Alb function before the development of hypoproteinemia, and serum IMA level and IMAR differ significantly between the patients with liver cirrhosis of various causes.

Objective To investigate the P2X3 receptor expression in L6-S1 dorsal root ganglion (DRG)and bladder detrusor in a rat model of neurogenic bladder and urethra. Methods Eighty Sprague-Dawley rats wererecruited and randomly divided into a sacral injury group, a suprasacral injury group and a control group. Spinal tran-section was performed to establish the animal model of neurogenic bladder and urethra in rats of the sacral injurygroup and suprasacral injury group. Check the P2X3 receptor expression in DBG and bladder detrusor among thethree groups by Western blot test at 20 days after model establishment. Results P2X3 receptor expression in L6-S1DRG of sacral injury group was significantly less than that of the suprasacral injury group, which was in turn signifi-cantly higher than that of the control group. P2X3 receptor expression in bladder detrusor of sacral injury group wassignificantly lower than that of the suprasacral injury group, which was in turn significantly higher than that of thecontrol group. Conclusion There was close relationship between P2X3 receptor expression and dysfunction of blad-der and urethra.
