Flashing light effect on microalgae could significantly improve the light efficiency and biomass productivity of microalgae. In this paper, the baffles were introduced into the traditional flat plate photobioreactor so as to enhance the flashing light effect of microalgae. Making Chlorella sp. as the model microalgae, the effect of light intensity and inlet velocity on the biomass concentration of Chlorella sp. and light efficiency were evaluated. The results showed that, when the inlet velocity was 0.16 m/s, with the increase of light intensity, the cell dry weight of Chlorella sp. increased and light efficiency decreased. With increasing the inlet velocity, the cell dry weight of Chlorella sp. and light efficiency both increased under the condition of 500 μmol/(m2 x s) light intensity. The cell dry weight of Chlorella sp. cultivated in the novel flat plate photobioreactor was 39.23% higher than that of the traditional one, which showed that the flashing light effect of microalgae could be improved in the flat plate photobioreactor with inclined baffles built-in.

Immunogenicity for medical devices of animal origin is the key and difficult point during immune safety evaluation for these devices. This paper firstly investigated the effect of collagen sponge of animal origin on mouse splenic lymphocyte transformation and proliferation, and then analyzed the influence factors on the MTT method and CFSE method. The results showed that collagen sponge extract cannot significantly induce transformation and proliferation of mouse splenic lymphocyte in vitro.

To discuss IC50 application in cytotoxicity tests of medical devices, we firstly investigated the vibrating condition and endpoint of MTT method specified in ISO 10993-5: 2009. Furthermore, we demonstrated the application of IC50 in the result evaluation of MTT method. The experimental results show that usage of IC50 in quantitative evaluation of MTT method is feasible.

Chinese Journal of Medical Instrumentation 2010;34(1):39-41
OBJECTIVETo improve our comprehensions to complement activation by biomaterial and lay the foundation for biosafety evaluation of solid biomaterials together with the corresponding blood contacting medical devices.
METHODSAnalyzed new requirements of current standards on complement activation by solid biomaterial as well as the mechanism of complement activation by solid biomaterial and how to select the related standards for inspection.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONThe new edition of international standards has enhanced types of blood contacting medical devices which are appropriate to complement activation test. It is badly in need of establishing the corresponding industry standards to regulate these requirements, since there have no uniform and admissive methods for inspection of complement activation by solid biomaterial.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2002;19(3):487-492
This paper describes the state and the development of the application of the modern and traditional image segmentation technology in cell slice image segmentation. It includes edge detection, regional segmentation, wavelet transform, fuzzy mathematics, artificial neural networks, morphological image segmentation and so on. At last, the paper summaries that it is difficult to generally segmentate any kind of biological cell slice image automatically because of the complex structure of cell and cell slice image is not even gray distributed. It should be pointed out that general automatic cell slice image segmentation will be achieved only if visual mathematics model corresponding to mammalian vision systems is setup entirely.
