Objective To discuss the safety and efficacy of hysteroscopy in the diagnosis and treatment of intrauterine adhesions (IUA). Methods Clinical data of 108 patients who had been treated by transcervical resection of adhesions (TCRA) under B-ultrasound and/or laparoscopic monitoring from January 1998 to August 2002 in this center were reviewed. Results Intraoperative B-ultrasound monitoring was used in 59 cases and B-ultrasound combined with laparoscopic monitoring was used in 49 cases. Complications occurred in 7 cases (3 cases of hemorrhage and 4 cases of uterine perforation) and were cured after proper treatment. Follow-up checkups in 84 cases showed a total effective rate of 82.1% (69/84). The effective rate in patients with a menorrhea, hypomenorrhea and irregular menstruation was 87.0% (40/46), in patients with infertility and habitual abortion was 42.9% (6/14), and in patients with abdominal pain and failing to remove IUD was 95.8% (23/24). Conclusions Diagnosis and treatment of IUA by hysteroscopy is microtraumatic and effective. B-ultrasound and/or laparoscopic monitoring is the key to the operation safety and success.

AIM: To investigate the effect and mechanism of 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) in topical treatment on trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)-induced colitis in rats. METHODS: Colitis was induced by intracolonic administration of TNBS and was treated with 5-ASA at the dose of 100 mg?kg -1 for 2 weeks. Normal control group was administrated with normal saline and TNBS control group was treated with TNBS, not with 5-ASA. Macroscopic damage, histological changes and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity were evaluated. Superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) level in colonic mucosa were detected by kits. The expression of interleukin-1? (IL-1?) and tumor necrosis factor-? (TNF-?) mRNAs in colonic mucosa was determined by a reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction method. RESULTS: Compared with TNBS control group, the macroscopic and histological changes and MPO activity in 5-ASA treated groups were improved. SOD activity was increased and the level of MDA in colonic mucosa was reduced significantly. The expression of IL-1? and TNF-? mRNAs in colonic mucosa was also decreased significantly. CONCLUSION: 5-ASA enema can significantly ameliorate TNBS-induced colitis in rats via antioxidant mechanism and attenuation of proinflammatory cytokine expression.

BACKGROUND:In dynamic hip screw fixation for treating aged osteoporotic intertrochanteric fracture, avoiding the loss of bone mass, or by other means that can increase the fixed screw pulout strength, wil improve the therapeutic effect of dynamic hip screw fixation. OBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of three kinds of repair methods on aged osteoporotic intertrochanteric fracture. METHODS:Data of aged osteoporosis intertrochanteric fracture patients, who received conventional dynamic hip screw fixation, bone cement augmentation with dynamic hip screw fixation and bone grafting with dynamic hip screw fixation, were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into control group, bone cement group and bone grafting group. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:After two years of folow-up, the excelent and good rates of Harris hip function were 95%, 80% and 70% in the bone grafting, bone cement and control groups, respectively. The healing time of fractures was significantly shortened in the bone grafting group (P < 0.05). The failure of screw fixation was similar between the bone grafting and bone cement groups. Screw withdrawing appeared in the control group. Results suggest that compared with conventional dynamic hip screw fixation and bone cement augmentation with dynamic hip screw fixation, the therapeutic effect and safety of bone grafting in nail path with dynamic hip screw fixation were better.

This study examined the possible role of p120ctn in the pathogenesis and development of pancreatic cancer. PANC-1 cells, a kind of human pancreatic carcinoma cell line, were cultured in this study. p120ctn was immunocytochemically detected in PANC-1 cells. The recombinant lentivirus vector was constructed to knock down the p120ctn expression of PANC-1 cells. Real-time quantitative PCR (RQ-PCR) and Western blotting were used to determine the expression of p120ctn and E-cadherin in PANC-1 cells after p120ctn knockdown. The adhesion, invasion and migration capacity of PANC-1 cells after p120ctn knockdown was detected by cell adhesion, invasion and migration assays. Cell growth was measured by the MTT method. Cell cycle and apoptosis were analyzed by fluorescence-activated cell sorting. The results showed that p120ctn knockdown led to significantly down-regulated E-cadherin and a reduced cell-to-cell adhesion ability in PANC-1 cells. shRNA-mediated knockdown of p120ctn reduced invasion and migration capacity of PANC-1 cells, inhibited cell growth, caused a significant decrease in the percentage of cells in G(1), an increase in S, and promoted apoptosis of PANC-1 cells. It was concluded that p120ctn plays a pivotal role in the proliferation and metastasis of pancreatic carcinoma, suggesting that p120ctn is a novel target for pancreatic carcinoma treatment.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is the gold standard for degenerative cervical disease, which would be replaced by cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) with the wide application of CDA. But, the mid- and long-term outcomes of ACDF versus CDA remain controversial.OBJECTIVE: To compare the mid- and long-term outcomes of ACDF and CDA in the treatment of single-level cervical spondylosis.METHODS: PubMed, Medline, EMbase, Cochrane, CBM, CNKI, VIP and WanFang databases were searched for randomized controlled trials addressing CDA versus ACDF for single-level cervical spondylosis published before August 2016. The quality of trails was strictly evaluated, the data were extracted and a meta-analysis was performed on ReviewManager5.3 software.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) Totally 15 randomized controlled trials involving 2781 patients were included, with 4-10 years of follow-up. (2) Meta-analysis results showed that compared with ACDF, CDA had better SF-36 scores, larger range of motion at operation level, lower the Neck Disability Index, and Visual Analogue Scale scores for arm pain, lower reoperation rate at operation level and adjacent level at mid- and long-term follow-up. (3) The Visual Analogue Scale scores for neck pain, neurologic success and all-complication rate did not differ significantly between two groups.(4) These results manifest that CDA is superior to ACDF in the mid- and long-term outcomes for single-level cervical spondylosis; however, further large-scale, multi-center and high-quality randomized controlled trials will be necessary.
