2.Value of multi-parametric MRI in the diagnosis of prostatic abscess
Journal of Practical Radiology 2014;(12):2016-2019
Objective To elucidate the MRI appearance of prostatic abscess, the DWI and enhanced MRI features. Methods 12 cases of prostatic abscesses were retrospectively analyzed, the clinical symptom mainly manifested as lower urinary tract symptoms and fever. All of the patients were given routine MR examination including DWI sequence,6 patients received further enhanced MR examination. Results In the 12 cases, there were 4 cases behaved as single type,8 cases as multifocal type. The abscess showed iso-or slightly hypo-signal intensity on T1 WI,hyper-signal intensity on T2 WI,markedly high signal intensity on DWI and correspond-ing markedly low signal intensity on ADC.Complete abscess walls showed iso-or slightly hyper signal on T1 WI,hypo-signal inten-sity on T2 WI.The mature abscess walls were thin and smooth, which showed homogeneously ring enhanced in 4 cases. The imma-ture abscess walls showed uneven thickness and moderately enhanced in 2 cases.Septum in the abscess could be found in 4 cases, which showed similar enhancement to the abscess walls, while the abscess cavity showed non-enhanced.Abscesses involved the sur-rounding structures in 2 cases, the involved area showed obvious hyper-signal on T2 WI fat-suppression sequence. Conclusion DWI is the best sequence in the diagnosis of prostatic abscess, the markedly high signal intensity on DWI is the characteristic sign. The enhanced MRI showed the walls and septa clearly, the extent and involvement of adjacent structures. The multi-parametric MRI is a prominent procedure in the diagnosis of prostatic abcess.

Objective To know the drinking water quality in the rural areas in Shanxi province in order to enhance the management of drinking water and provide the scientific basis for water improvement in the rural areas. Methods 11 counties were selected based on the geographical condition in Shanxi province and 10 investigation sites were selected in each county based on the population proportion of different drinking-water types. 14 indicators were determined for every water sample. Results In the rural areas, most drinking water sources were ground water and the type of water supply was mainly non-central water supply. The indexes that exceeded the related standard limit were fluoride, arsenic and bacteria indicators. The hygienic state of central water supply was much better(?2=4.13, P

Objective To investigate the influences of large-scale military exercise on immune and endocrine secretory function of soldiers. Methods The psychological stress self-evaluation test(PSET)was applied on 126 officers and soldiers before and after the military exercise.Radioimmunoassay(RIA)technique was employed to determine the contents of serum interlukine-2(IL-2),interlukine-6(IL-6),interlukine-8(IL-8),tumor necrosis factor(TNF),cortisol(Cor)and aldosterone(Ald)in 126 subjects. All data were processed by correlation analysis. Results Compared with that of before exercise, the contents of serum IL-2 declined significantly(P

Objective To investigate the correlation between psychological stress status and the personality of the soldiers who took part in a large-scale military exercise. Methods The psychological stress self-evaluation test (PSET), SCL-90 game and Eysenck personality questionnaire (EPQ) were conducted in 126 servicemen before and after a field military exercise. Correlation between psychological stress status and their personality profile was studied versus the SCL-90 after military exercise. Results 126 servicemen who had taken part in the military exercise were tested with PSET. The number of persons whose PSET data T≥70 increased from 9 before the exercise to 35 after the exercise (P

The abnormal expression of MUC15, a novel cell membrane-associated mucin, has been reported to predict poor survival in several cancers. The aim of the present study was to examine the expression of MUC15 in glioma and its correlation with clinicopathological features, including the survival of patients with glioma. The mRNA expression level of MUC15 was determined by RT-PCR, quantitative RT-PCR (RT-qPCR) and Western blotting in seven normal brain tissues and seven glioma tissues, respectively. The protein expression level of MUC15 was immunohistochemically detected in paraffin-embedded samples of 317 glioma tissues and 115 noncancerous brain tissues. The association of MUC15 expression levels with the clinicopathologic features and the prognosis was analyzed. The results showed that both mRNA and protein levels of MUC15 were significantly increased in glioma as compared with those in noncancerous brain tissue. Moreover, MUC15 overexpression was positively correlated with the advanced clinical stages of glioam patients (P<0.01). Furthermore, MUC15 expression levels were significantly correlated with the progression of glioma (P<0.001). Survival analysis indicated that glioma patients with higher MUC15 expression had a significantly shorter overall and 5-year survival time than those with low MUC15 expression. Multivariate analysis suggested that MUC15 overexpression was an independent factor for prognosis (hazard risk: 3.216; P=0.009). It was concluded that MUC15 is overexpressed in glioma tissues. Its overexpression correlates with tumor progression and it is a potentially unfavorable prognostic factor for patients with glioma.

Objective To investigate the relationship between ultrasonographic features of papillary thy-roid carcinoma(PTC)and lateral cervical lymph node metastasis (LCLNM).Methods A total of 449 eligible ca-ses with 633 PTC nodules was selected and divided into two groups:LCLNM group included 135 nodules(91 pa-tients);Without metastatic groups included 498 nodules(135 patients).Ultrasonographic features of PTC nodules and the relationship with LCLNM were analyzed by χ2 test and logistic regression analysis .Results In univariate analysis, the significant factors were male,age<45yrs,multifocal,maximal diameter(d>1 cm),multi-microcal-cificaltion(d<2 mm),mixed flow, wider than tall,CCLNM,extrathyroid extension, located in upper(P<0.05 or P<0.017).Multivariate analysis showed that multi -microcalcificaltion(d<2 mm),wider than tall,CCLNM,ex-trathyroid extension, located in upper pole were predictive factors of LCLNM (P<0.005,OR=1.626,2.644, 0.479,2.579).Conclusion High-frequency ultrasound can accurately describe the sonographic appearance of thyroid nodules;it can be used to remind the risk of LCLNM before operation ,and will be informative for the treat-ment of surgery .

Infection and inflammatory response can induce the brain damage in neonate, but the mechanism involved in it has not been elucidated completely.Proposed mechanisms include inflammatory response, cytokine and free radical-mediated injury, and excitatory amino acids-induced injury. The activation of microglia and selective vulnerability of immature oligodendrocyte play an important role in the whole process.Recent researches show that the fetal inflammatory response and complex gene regulation are also involved in the infection-induced brain damage.
