Objective To investigate clinical significance of proinsulin and true insulin in obese children with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).Methods There were 21 IGT and 52 normal glucose tolerance (NGT) children. Control cases were 40 normal children. The levels of serum fasting proinsulin, true insulin,insulin,c-peptide and glucose were measured in all the subjects. Results 1.Levels of fasting proinsulin,c-peptide, glucose, insulin, true insulin and homeostasis insulin resistance in obese children with IGT showed significant difference compared with NGT (P

AIM To study the protective effect of Gn-3 (a stilbene polymer isolated from Gnetum parvifolium) against liver injury induced by CCl4, N-acetyl-p-aminophenol (APAP) and Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) plus bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in mice. METHODS The experimental model of liver injury were induced by 0.1% CCl4 ip (10 mL*kg-1*d-1 for 3d), APAP ip (150 mg*kg-1) or BCG (5 mg) plus LPS (7.5 μg) in mice. The levels of ALT in serum, MDA and GSH in liver tissues were detected. The histopathologic changes were observed by light microscope. RESULTS Gn-3 was shown to markedly reduce the elevated serum ALT levels, liver tissue MDA and improve the histopathological changes in all the three experimental liver injury models. No effect of Gn-3 was observed on the liver GSH level in liver injury mice. CONCLUSION Gn-3 was found to inhibit the development of liver injury caused by CCl4, APAP, or BCG plus LPS. This means that Gn-3 has liver protective effects.

Aim: Synthesized N-acylated chitosan(NAC) was used to anchor on the surface of plain docetaxel li-posomes( PDL) in order to to sustain drug release. Methods; NAC of low substitution degrees were prepared using hexanoic(C_6), lauric( C_(12)), and palmitic( C_(16)) anhydrides. W-palmitoyl chitosan was chosen to anchor the do-cetaxel liposomes. In vitro release profiles of conventional liposmes and the anchored liposomes was compared. Results: Hexanoic(C_6), lauric( C_(12)), and palmitic( C_(16)) -branched chitosans were synthesized. It was found that N-acylated chitosan-anchored DXL liposomes (NDL) increase stabilities of docetaxel liposomes. 70% of docetaxel was released from PDL in 24 hours but 39% from NDL Conclusion: Liposomes anchored by the low substituted N-acylated chitosan could decrease the drug release.

Objective To investigate the efficacy of peritoneal dialysis(PD) in the children with complex congenital heart disease after surgery. Methods 65 children with complex congenital heart disease were divided into group A(33 cases) and group B(32 cases).Group A was given PD when diuretics or urine output was less than 0.5ml per hour, while group B was given PD when urine output was less than 0.5ml per hour after 6h.The survival effect and indicators of PD before and after treatment were observed. Results The effective rate of group A (84.85% ) was significantly better than group B ( 53.12% ) ( x2 =5.18,P < 0.05 ).The fatality rate of group A (9.09% ) was significantly lower than group B ( 18.75% ) ( x2 =5.32,P < 0.05 ).The renal function was significantly improved.Urine output increased to the normal level, serum potassium, blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine concentration were effectively controlled, the changes of indicators had significant differences before and after PD (t =5.22,3.46,46,4.89,4.77,all P < 0.05).Conclusion PD was an effective support method for heart, renal insufficiency after the surgery of complex congenital heart disease, and it had good clinical effect for early application.

Thirty-six cases of delayed tramatic intracranial hematomas are reported in this paper. Among them 9, 5, 10 and 12 cases were epidural, subdural, intracerebral and multiple hematomas, respectively. The initial CT scans showed normal or brain contusions accompanied by a Me hemorrhage in 23 patients, and delayed intracranial hematomas developed after the earlier neurosurgical operations for evacuations of another traumatic mass lessions for urgent decompressions in 13 patients. Delayed hematomas occurred mostly in the acute stage of head injuries and most patients were impacted occipitally. Deterioration of consciousness was the most important manifestation for diagnosis. The responsible mechanisms of delayed intracranial hematomas are investigated and the indications of repeat CT scans or surgery for its early diagnosis are Droposed.

Objective To identify and compare melanin distribution in iris and skin tissues of rabbits from four breeds including WHBE rabbit. Methods Ferrous sulphate staining was performed for iris and skin tissue of rabbits from different breeds. Results It showed dark green staining in both iris stroma and iris pigment epithelium of WHBE rabbit, while light green staining was observed in its follicles. Conclusion The results of histologic evaluations provide some clues to the future research on mechanism of WHBE rabbit phenotype mutation.

Journal of Applied Clinical Pediatrics 2006;0(17):-
Objective To explore the characteristics of etiology, clinical, electroencephalogram(EEG) and prognosis of infantile spasms(IS) with focal seizures(FS).Methods The significance of age onset, seizure patterns and atteration,etiology,video-EEG(VEEG) and evolution of FS correlating to epileptic spasms(ES),which occurred in 12 cases with IS by means of clinical observation, cranial CT or MRI,VEEG monitory and follow up were investigated.Twelve cases were divided into group A,B,C according to the stages of FS occurring prece-ding,coinciding and following ES.Results Ten cases with IS were identified from focal cortical dysplasia, tuberous scleroses complex, temporal lobe cyst or scleroses and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and others.Clinical manifestation presented FS at certain times during the course of the disease, and other characteristics of frequent attacks, asymmetric spasms or tonic spasms, some atypical seizures in the eyes and the head, motionless staring and focal motor seizures and other. The correlation of ES to FS occurred during one ictal episode as follows:FS→ES(6 cases),ES→FS→ES(1 case),ES→FS(3 cases).FS appeared more frequently, atypical, predominantly involving ocular, facial, oral movement or generalized convulsion, migrating or alternating seizures, associated with epileptic discharges of posterior parietal-occipital and parietal-temporal-occipital origins in group A and early period of group B;whereas in the late period of group B and group C,FS occurred less frequently and more stable, presenting complex partial seizures or secondarily generalized seizures originated mainly from frontal and surrounding areas in the lateralized or bilateral hemispheres.Regarding the natural evolution and development of IS,2 cases with early FS developed into IS;6 cases with IS evolved into Lennox-Gastaut syndrome or symtomatic generalized epilepsy,4 cases got into FS,1 case maintained in a peculiarly epileptic state with FS as well as ES until the operation at 4.5 years old,and the other case was not identified clearly. Conclusions IS coincided with FS is a special kind of aged-related FS associated with secondarily generalized seizures and epileptic encephalopathy. The multiple etiology, seizure patterns,ictal-interictal EEG,clinical evolution and prognosis of the disorder, indicate a complicated interaction of the immature cortico-subcortical abnormalities in the critical developmental period and thereafter, can be identified as a peculiar form of clinical epileptic syndrome.
