OBJECTIVE:To study improvement effect of modified mahuang chanyi decoction on allergic rhinitis(AR)model guinea pigs and its mechanism. METHODS:32 guinea pigs were randomly divided into normal group (0.9% Sodium chloride in-jection),model group (0.9% Sodium chloride injection),experimental [Modified mahuang chanyi decoction,5.18 g (medicinal materials)/kg] group and control [Fluticasone propionate nasal spray,50 μg/(guinea pig·d)] group. Except for normal group,other groups received ovalbumin 30 mg and calmogastrin 30 mg intraperitoneally to induce AR model. Except for control group,other groups were given relevant medicine intragastrically,twice a day for consecutive 15 d. Nasal symptoms of guinea pigs were ob-served and recorded,and then analyzed and scored. The protein expression of nasal mucosa SHP-1 was detected by immunohisto-chemistry,the serum contents of IL-4 and IFN-γ were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS:Compared with normal group,model group suffered from AR symptom,and nasal symptoms score was increased;and the protein expression of nasal mucosa SHP-1 and the serum content of IL-4 increased,while the content of IFN-γ decreased(P<0.05). Compared with model group,AR symptom of experimental group and control group were improved;nasal symptoms score,the protein expression of nasal mucosa SHP-1 and the serum content of IL-4 decreased while the content of IFN-γ increased(P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Modified mahuang chanyi decoction shows certain improvement effect on AR,and its mechanism is associated the decrease of IL-4 content and the increase of IFN-γcontent in serum.

Objective To investigate the effects of electromagnetic irradiation on the activity of protein kinase C(PKC)in the cerebellum of rabbit.Methods Thirty rabbits were randomly divided into control and electromagnetic irradi.ation group (including 0 hour,3 hours,12 hours,24 hours and 72 hours subgroups after irradiation),rabbits in the electromagnetic irradiation group were exposed to 65 mW/cm~2 S frequency range electromagnetic irradiation for 30 minutes,the rectal temperature was taken immediately after irradiation and the specific absorption rate(SAR)values were calculated,the activity of PKC the cerebellum was determined with improved TaKai method.Results The rectal temperature of rabbits increased 2.35 ℃ after irradiation,SAR value was 4.54 kcal/kg.PKC activity decreased significantly after irradiation.Conclusion After 30 min of electromagnetic irradiation at 65 mW/cm~2,obvious heating effect will be detected in the rabbit and PKC activity in the cerebellum decreased significantly.

BACKGROUND: Myelin sheath related inhibitors have been found to have great impact on microenvironment of axon regeneration. Traditional Chinese medicine is gradual y becoming a research hotspot on improving microenvironment of nerve regeneration with its advantage on multiple factors and targets.
OBJECTIVE: To clarify the effect of Jisuikang on Nogo-66 receptor NgR expression after spinal cord injury.
METHODS: 144 rats were randomly divided into six groups: sham surgery group, model group, prednisone group, high-, moderate- and low-dose Jisuikang groups (n=24). Animal models of spinal cord injury were established by the modified Allen’s method in the later five groups. Rats in the prednisone group were daily given 0.06 g/kg prednisone acetate by lavage, once a day. Rats in the high-, moderate- and low-dose Jisuikang groups were daily intragastrically given 12.5, 25 and 50 g/kg Jisuikang, once a day. Rats in the sham surgery and model groups were intragastrically daily given 20 mL of saline, once a day. Rats in each group were administered drugs until death.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Compared with the model group, NgR protein and mRNA expression levels were significantly lower in the prednisone, moderate-and low-dose Jisuikang groups. These data suggested that Jisuikang can improve the recovery of neurological function after spinal cord injury and effectively inhibit NgR protein expression at the site of injury so as to suppress the microenvironment factors harmful to nerve regeneration and further improve the microenvironment of nerve regeneration. Objective To explore the effect of Jisuikang on neural functional recovery, and expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) protein and mRNA level after spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods 144 female Sprague-Dawley rats, weighted 180 to 220 g, were used for experiment. 24 rats were randomly extracted into sham group (Group A), which had their vertebral plates and spines bitten away only.The others were randomly divided into model group (Group B), prednison group (Group C), and high, middle and low doses of Jisuikang group (Groups D to F) after SCI, 24 rats in each group. Group C was given 0.06 g/(kg ⋅ d) prednison, and Groups D to F were given 50, 25 and 12.5 g/(kg ⋅d) Jisuikang respectively, which were given 20 ml/(kg ⋅d) volume by intragastric administration. Groups A and B were given the same volume of normal saline (NS). The Basso-Beattie-Bresnahan (BBB) scores and oblique board test were applied to test the postoperative results 24 hours, 3, 7 and 14 days after SCI. The rats were executed and the spinal cord tissues were extracted 3, 7 and 14 days after SCI. Immunohistochemistry, Western blotting and RQ-PCR were applied to test the expression of protein and mRNA of BDNF. Results BBB scores and angle of oblique board test were significantly lower in Groups B to F than in Group A 24 hours after SCI (P<0.01). BBB scores were higher in both Groups C and E than in Group B 3 to 14 days after SCI (P<0.05), and was significantly higher in Group E than in the other groups 14 days after SCI (P<0.01). The results of immunohistochemistry and Western blotting showed that the protein expression of BDNF were significantly higher in Groups C and E than in Group B at different time points in the injured area after SCI (P<0.01), while there was no significant difference between Groups C and E (P>0.05). The results of RQ-PCR showed that prednisone and Jisuikang promoted the expression of BDNF mRNA. Group C (prednisone) had a most obvious effect at the beginning while Group E was better than Group C 14 days after SCI. Conclusion Jisuikang can promote the neural functional recovery and the expression of BDNF on both protein and mRNA level in SCI rats.

Objective To analyze the efficacy of electric sacral neuromdulation and resiniferatoxin in patients with female overactive bladder.Methods 32 cases with IOAB female patients accepted percutaneous test sitmulation of the electric sacral nerves at S3 ,and treated by intravesical instillation with 100ml of 100nmol/L RTX.The effica- cy of voiding status were evaluated.The improvement of female patients life were evaluated comparing the rating of depression and anxiety.Results There were significant improvements in 32 cases in variables included the number of voiding,volume voided and signs every day and urgent uresis.In the rating of depression and anxiety,the patients improved a litter and still had stimulating symptom in urethra and bladder.Conclusion The treatment of IOAB with single administratoon of electric sacral neuromdulation and resiniferatoxin is effective,and can successfully im- prove the symptom with little side effects.

Objective　To ascertain the natural infection rate of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome virus (HFRSV) among its hosts and the type of the natural foci for providing some baseline data for the immigrant health and epidemic prevention of the Three-Gorge region. Methods　Epidemiological survey on the field was performed including epidemiological data collection, ecology of rodents and pathogen detection. HFRS virus antigen of hosts were detected by the direct immunofluorescent assay (DIFA) technique and determination of HFRSV-RNA by ISH were carried out from HFRSV-Ag-positive animals. Results　HFRSV-Ag-positive animals were found in 5 migration areas ie Baitao Town of Fuling Section, Wansheng Village of Fengjie County and Dachang Town of Wushan County. The positive hosts were as follows, Rattus Norvegicus, Apodemus agrarius, Anourusurex squamipes, Mus musculus and Rattus flavipectus. The positive rate of HFRSV in the mice of 5 migration areas were 19.4%, 17.0%, 14.0%, 13.7%, and 8.5% respectively. The results showed that the lung tissues of some hosts in all five migration areas were HFRSV-RNA-positive. Baitao Town and Peishi Town were attributed to mixture type epidemic areas while. Kangle Town, Wansheng Village and Dachang Town were domestic rats type epidemic areas. Conclusion　This study shows that the five migration areas are natural epidemic foci of HFRS. It is predicted that maximum risk of HFRS breakout or epidemic may take place after the completion of the San Xia Reservoir(the Three-Gorges Reservoir), which results from rodent moving toward higher land. Therefore, deratization and preventive measures for rat are important in migration areas.

ObjectiveTo explore the clinical characteristics of pathological fracture in extremities caused by bone tumors or tumor-like lesions. MethodsFrom August 2002 to December 2010, 139 patients with pathological fractures were entered in the study, including 79 males and 60 females with an average age of 31.1 years. Fractures included tumor-like lesion in 55 cases, benign tumor in 13, giant cell tumor (GCT)in 7, primary malignant tumors in 28, and metastatic tumors in 36. Forces induced to fractures were classified into four grades: spontaneous fracture, functional activity, minor injury, severe injury. Age, fracture location, histological results, fractures forces, prodromes, and misdiagnosis were all observed. Chi-square test were use to compare forces and prodromes within different tumors. ResultsThe highest morbidity rate is 32.4％(45/139) which lies in 11-20 years old. The cites of fractures including femurs in 71 cases, humerus in 36, tibia in 15, fingers in 7, radiuses in 4, fibula in 3, ulnas in 2, and metatarsus in 1. Fracture forces include spontaneous fractures in 29 cases, functional activity in 42, minor injuries in 65, and traumatic injuries in 3. Sixty-seven patients(48.2％) had local prodromes. The prodromes of both malignant tumors and metastatic tumors were more than benign tumors. Twenty cases experienced misdiagnosis with average delay time of 12 weeks. ConclusionMinor injury forces and local prodromes are clinical key features of pathological fractures. Both of them are key points of avoiding misdiagnosis.

Objective To explore the effect of macrolide antibiotics(erythromycin) on tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and interleukin(IL)-8 in hyperoxia-induced lung tissue of premature newborn rats,and to study the intervention effect of erythromycin on hyperoxia-induced lung injury.Methods One-day old preterm Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups by random number table method:air + sodium chloride group,air + erythromycin group,hyperoxia + sodium chloride group,hyperoxia + erythromycin group.Hyperoxia groups were continuously exposed to oxygen (oxygen ＞ 0.85) and air group in room air.After 1,7,14 days of exposure,the preterm rats of four groups were sacrificed,whole lung of these rats were isolated,the lung histological changes were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining,TNF-α and IL-8 in pulmonary tissue homogenate were detected by ELISA.Results The results showed that:(1) Compared with air + sodium chloride group,TNF-α and IL-8 expression in hyperoxia + sodium chloride group were significantly increased(P ＜ 0.05) after 1,7 days of exposure [1 d:TNF-α:(16.163 ± 0.574) ng/ml vs.(21.923 ±2.066) ng/ml,IL-8:(18.214 ±3.649) ng/ml vs.(23.546 ± 5.240) ng/ml ;7 d:TNF-α:(15.940 ±0.821) ng/ml vs.(19.688 ±0.764) ng/ml,IL-8:(18.541 ± 4.114) ng/ml vs.(24.255 ±4.692) ng/ml],in particular,TNF-α expression appeared to increase earlier,their expression became significantly weak in 14 days (P ＜ 0.05).(2) Compared with hyperoxia + sodium chloride group,TNF-α and IL-8 expression in hyperoxia +erythromycin group became significantly weak after 1,7,14 days of exposure(P ＜0.05) after the intervention of erythromycin [1 d:TNF-α:(21.923 ± 2.066) ng/ml vs.(18.903 ± 1.851) ng/ml,7 d:IL-8:(24.255 ±4.692) ng/ml vs.(23.508 ±3.543) ng/ml,14 d:TNF-α:(16.443 ±5.466) ng/ml vs.(14.453 ±0.963)ng/ml],but their expression became weaker in 14 days than that in 1,7 days.Conclusion The release of inflammatory mediators TNF-α and IL-8 induced by oxidation outbreak participates in the development of hyperoxia induced lung injury,erythromycin may regulate immune function,inhibits the levels of oxidant-mediated TNF-α and IL-8 induced by oxidation outbreak,and alleviate hyperoxia lung injury in premature rats.
