Objective To study the dynamic changes of pulmonary lesions of severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS)treated by non-invasive positive pressure ventilation(NIPPV)on CT. Methods Serial chest CT images in 18 patients with SARS were retrospectively analyzed before and after NIPPV(4—12 days),and a long-term follow-up(3—36 months)examination by CT was carried out.And 27 SARS cases without NIPPV were enrolled as the control group.Results(1)There were dynamic changes in 15 cases of 18 cases:partial multilobar consolidations of bilateral lungs changed into ground-glass opacities in 7 of 18 cases,a circular pulmonary emphysema around bronchial vascular strains of the lower lobes was seen in 5 of 18,subpleural pulmonary emphysema was seen in 8 of 18,pulmonary barotraumas were showed in 2 of 18.Residual of subpleural curvilinear shadow related to NIPPV was found in 2 cases on the follow-up scan.(2)Above changes on CT were not found in 27 cases without NIPPV.Conclusion There were changes of pulmonary lesions of SARS on CT related to NIPPV treatment,It is beneficial to assess the CT images in the NIPPV treatment of the related pneumonia in SARS.

OBJECTIVETo observe the clinical efficacy of treating middle-aged and aged patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) of yang-deficiency induced cold-damp syndrome (YDICDS) by ozone combined Fugui Gutong Granule (FGG).

METHODSUsing a prospective, randomized controlled clinical trial, 200 KOA patients of YDICDS were randomly assigned to four groups. i.e., the control group (Group A), the Chinese medicine treatment group (Group B), the ozone group (Group C), and the Chinese-r medicine treatment plus ozone group (Group D).Patients in Group A took Voltaren Tablet. Those in Group B took FGG. Those in Group C received ozone injection (10 -18 mL) from knee joint cavity at 25 mg/L, once weekly for 4 weeks in total. Those in Group D received injection from knee joint cavity and took FGG. The therapeutic course for all was one month. The efficacy was assessed using visual analogue scale (VAS) and Western Ontario MacMaster University Osteoarthritis index (WOMAC).

RESULTSThe VAS score was obviously lower in Group D than in Group B and Group A at 24 h and 1 week (P <0. 05). After one month of treatment, the VAS score was obviously lower in Group D than in Group A, B, and C (P < 0.05). After treatment the total integral of WOMAC was 25.34 +/- 2.12 in Group D, obviously lower than that in Group A (44.72 +/- 6.57), Group B (40.58 +/- 5.98), and Group C (38.53 +/- 5. 13), showing statistical difference (P <0.05). The pain score, the joint stiffness score, the score for daily activities were lower in Group D than in Group A (P <0.05). The cured and markedly effective rate was 76.0% in Group D, higher than that of Group A (25. 0%), Group B (25. 0%), and Group C (43.8%), respectively (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONOzone combined FGG had advantages in alleviating joint pain, and improving joint stiffness and daily activities of middle-aged and aged patients with KOA of YDICDS.

BACKGROUND:Borosilicate cannot only be mineralized to form hydroxy carbonate apatite layer, but also have strong chemical reactivity to promote bone cel regeneration. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of the borosilicate bioglass on the growth behavior of rabbit osteoblasts through in vitro culture experiment. METHODS:The initial and secondary extracts of borosilicate bioglass were prepared according to the requirement of ISO10993-12: 2007. The bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels of rabbits were isolated and cultured. The second generation bone marrow mesenchymal stem cels were induced to differentiate into osteoblasts. The osteoblasts of the 5th-15th RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The osteoblasts proliferation in the initial extract and secondary extract groups was better than that in the α-MEM medium group (P < 0.05). The osteoblasts proliferation in the initial extract group was better than that in the secondary extract group (P < 0.05). The total protein content of osteoblasts in the initial extract group was higher than that in the secondary extract and α-MEM medium group (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in the alkaline phosphatase activity, apoptosis rate, horizontal migration distance of osteoblast and transmembrane cel number in Transwel between these three groups. These results demonstrate that borosilicate bioglass has good biocompatibility and has a certain benign regulatory role in generations were obtained and cultured with the initial and secondary extracts of borosilicate bioglass and α-MEM medium, respectively. The effects of borosilicate bioglass on the osteoblasts proliferation, protein synthesis, alkaline phosphatase activity, cel apoptosis, and cel migration in horizontal and vertical direction were observed.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The osteoblasts proliferation in the initial extract and secondary extract groups was better than that in the α-MEM medium group (P < 0.05). AIMTo investigate the effect of meloxicam on human polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) adhesion to human synovial cell (HSC), and to explore its mechanism.

METHODSMTT colorimetry was used to determine the adhesion effect of PMN to HSC. Cell-ELISA and RT-PCR methods were used to determine the expression of ICAM-1 and VCAM-1. Nuclear transcription factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B) was measured by electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) method.

RESULTSMeloxicam was found to effectively inhibit TNF-alpha (50 u.mL-1 for 12 h) and IL-1 beta (50 u.mL-1 for 12 h)-induced adhesion of PMN to HSC (IC50 3.38 x 10(-7) mol.L-1 and 3.56 x 10(-6) mol.L-1, respectively) in a concentration-dependent manner. ICAM-1 protein and mRNA expression induced by TNF-alpha (50 u.mL-1) were inhibited by meloxicam at 1 x 10(-6)-1 x 10(-5) mol.L-1. The activation of NF-kappa B was also inhibited by meloxicam at 1 x 10(-6)-1 x 10(-5) mol.L-1.

CONCLUSIONThese results suggest that meloxicam inhibit TNF-alpha stimulated PMN-HSC adhesion and expression of ICAM-1 by suppressing the activity of NF-kappa B.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression on cell growth and apoptosis in imatinib resistant chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) cells (K562/A02-IM), and explore the relationship between HO-1 gene and CML.

METHODSThe expression of HO-1 in 20 drug-resistant CML patients was detected by RT-PCR. Different concentrations of hemin were used to induce HO-1 expression of K562/A02-IM, HO-1 expression at different time was detected by RT-PCR and Western blot analysis. Cell apoptosis was detected by Annexin V/PI staining, and MTT assay was used to detect viability of K562/A02-IM cells after induction or inhibition of HO-1 gene by hemin and zinc protoporphyrin (ZPP).

RESULTSRT-PCR showed that HO-1 was expressed in the bone marrow mononuclear cells (BMMNCs). When treated with hemin at different concentrations (0, 10, 20, 40 µmol/L) for 16 h, the expression of HO-1 in K562/A02-IM was increased in a dose-dependent manner, and peaked at 20 µmol/L of hemin for 16 h. The apoptosis rates were (17.61 ± 0.01)%, (12.13 ± 0.11)%, (7.94 ± 0.03)% and (4.62 ± 0.15)% at 0,10, 20 and 40 µmol/L of hemin respectively for 16 h and were (14.7 ± 0.05)%, (8.1 ± 0.07)% and (16.3 ± 0.13)% at 20 µmol/L of hemin treatment for 8,16, and 24 h respectively. Hemin induced apoptosis of K562/A02-IM cells in a dose-dependent manner. The expression of HO-1 was induced in K562/A02-IM cells in a dose-dependent manner, and the survival of K562/A02-IM cells was significantly increased as compared to that of control group. When HO-1 was inhibited by ZPP, the cells survival was sharply decreased compared to that of the control group (P < 0.05).

CONCLUSIONHO-1 was expressed in the BMMNCs. It is a kind of molecules whose expression can be induced and can promote the growth of drug-resistant cells. Inhibition of HO-1 expression probably be used for the treatment of drug-resistant CML.

Objective: To study the mechanism of chitosan i n inhibiting the proliferation of rabbit aortic smooth muscle cells(SMCs). Methods: By means of c-myc probe labelled with random primers and Northern blot hybridization, we examined the effect of chitosan on vascu lar SMC c- myc mRNA expression, which was stimulated by newborn bull serum (NB S,20%). Results: The oncogene c-myc mRNA expression incerased in cultured vascular SMC 24 h after NBS exposure. These effects were inhibite d by chitosan (20 μg/ml). Conclusion: Chitosan might inhibit the expression of vascular SMC c-myc mRNA stimulated by NBS, through which the proliferation of vascular SMC are inhibited.

Objective:To investigate the clinical features and influencing factors of prognosis in elderly patients with heart failure(HF)in ICU.Methods:Clinical data of 148 elderly HF patients(≥60 years old)admitted to ICU of our hospital from January to December 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.Disease history,etiology and related ex-amination data were analyzed in these patients,and predisposing factors and clinical features of HF were summa-rized.According to incidence of adverse cardiovascular events within 6 months,they were divided into event group(n=70)and no event group(n=78).General clinical data were compared between two groups.Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression were used to analyze influencing factors of poor prognosis in elderly HF patients in ICU.Results:Predisposing factors of elderly HF mainly included upper respiratory tract infections and pneumonia 34 cases(22.97％),20 cases(13.51％)of rapid atrial fibrillation and fatigue respectively.There were 91 cases(61.49％)with typical cardiac insufficiency as initial symptom;24 cases(16.22％)complicated with neuropsychiatric symptom;44 cases(29.73％)complicated with anxiety and depression of different extent.Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression a-nalysis indicated that age,NYHA class Ⅲ～Ⅳ,Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ(APACHE Ⅱ)score,N terminal pro brain natriuretic peptide(NT-proBNP),growth differentiation factor 15(GDF-15)and high sensitive C reactive protein(hsCRP)levels were independent risk factors for poor prognosis in elderly HF patients(OR=1.021～1.393,P＜0.05 or＜0.01).Conclusion:For elderly HF patients in ICU,clinical manifestations are not typical,and the predisposing factors are complex.It is found that APACHE Ⅱ score,GDF-15,hsCRP and NT-proBNP levels possess important significance for diagnosis and prognosis of these patients.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of occupational stress on ambulatory blood pressure.

METHODS30 male healthy workers from the refrigerator assembly line in Henan province in China were investigated. Psychosocial work conditions were measured by using the Job Demand-control Model, the Effort-reward Imbalance Model questionnaires and Occupational Stress Measurement Scale. Ambulatory blood pressure(ABP) was measured by using mobile ABP monitor. The t test was utilized to analyze the difference of parameters of ABP monitoring between different groups of occupational stress and other variables scores. The stepwise regression analysis was used to analyse the effect of occupational stress factors on parameters of ABP.

RESULTS(1) As to stressors, systolic blood pressure variability (SBPV), mean arterial blood pressure variability (MABPV) and heart rate at 30 minute after work in workers with high role conflict score were significantly higher than those in workers with low score (P < 0.05). Workers with high skill utilization score had significantly lower mean systolic blood pressure (SBP) at 30 minute after work than workers with low score (P < 0.05). Diastolic blood pressure variability (DBPV) and heart rate variability (HRV) in workers with high decision latitude score were significantly higher than those in workers with low score (P < 0.05). Workers with high job psychological demands score had significantly higher SBPV, DBPV and MABPV than workers with low score (P < 0.05). Heart rate-pressure product(RPP) and SBPV in workers with high effort score were significantly higher than those in workers with low score (P < 0.05). Workers with low rewards score had higher mean heart rate and heart rate at 30 minute after work than workers with high score (P < 0.05). (2) For personalities, workers with high work locus of control score had significantly higher mean diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) than workers with low score (P < 0.05). Workers with high patience score had significantly lower mean SBP at 30 minute after work than workers with low score (P < 0.05). Heart rate at 30 minute after work in workers with high organization commitment score was significantly lower than that in workers with low score (P < 0.05). (3) Concerning buffer factors, HRV in workers with high control strategies score were significantly lower than that in workers with low score (P < 0.05). Workers with low supervisor support score had higher RPP and MABPV than workers with high score (P < 0.05). (4) In the multiple stepwise regression, daily life stress affected SBPV (R2 = 0.12) and MABPV (R2 = 0.05), depression was related to DBPV at 30 minute after work (R2 = 0.15) and SBPV (R = 0.03), mental health was predictor of MABPV (R2 = 0.07) and negative affection was predictor of heart rate at 30 minute after work (R2 = 0.24).

CONCLUSIONSOccupational stressors, personality and social support have effect on parameters of ABP. Parameters of ABP monitoring could be used to evaluate occupational stress in the field research.

BACKGROUNDIt is generally accepted that gliomas are the most common primary brain tumors with poor prognosis. We aimed to explore the relationship of the immunity of the central nervous system and the genesis and development of glioma.

METHODSG422 glioma was implanted in the brain of BALB/c mice (immuno-competent mice), nude mice (T cell related immuno-deficient) and complement C3 knock-out mice (complement C3 related immunodeficient). The survival time of the host, growth and histopathology of the tumor, and concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interferon-γ (INF-γ) in tumor tissues were assessed.

RESULTSTumor spheres were formed in all mice after injection, and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) positive staining of the cells declared their glioma origin. The longest median survival time of (44.3 ± 6.0) days was found in BALB/c mice, followed by (24.8 ± 5.2) days in nude mice and the shortest (18.6 ± 5.8) days in complement C3 knock-out mice. Accordingly, the growth of the tumor was fastest in complement C3 knock-out mice, followed by the nude mice and slowest in the BALB/c mice. Although the proportions of infiltrating CD68(+) lymphocytes in tumor tissues showed no significant difference (P > 0.05), TNF-α level in the nude and C3 knock-out mice, (28.11 ± 4.86) µmol/L and (22.87 ± 6.36) µmol/L respectively, were significantly lower (P < 0.01) than that in the BALB/c mice, which was (230.21 ± 39.17) µmol/L. The INF-γ level was highest in the BALB/c mice ((180.76 ± 29.19) µmol/L), followed by the nude mice ((113.46 ± 23.76) µmol/L) and then the C3 knock-out mice ((16.84 ± 4.45) µmol/L).

CONCLUSIONSThe G422 glioma implanted in the brains of mice with different immune ability would be a useful model for studying the relationship of the immune system and tumor in the central nervous system. Furthermore, the T cells and complement C3 compartments of the immune response may affect the growth of implanted tumors and inflammatory factors such as TNF-α and INF-γ.
