Objective: To study the gender differences in ERPs recorded during a recognition task for Chinese words. Methods: 15 male and 15 female healthy volunteers received a Chinese words recognition task and the EEG signals were recorded from 20 scalp sites simultaneously. The stimuli were meaningful words consisting of two Chinese characters. Results: Both men and females showed a positive-going parietal old/new effect, but females demonstrated larger P500 amplitudes and shorter P500 latency than males. Furthermore, the parietal old/new effect of males was significantly left-lateralized, while that of females showed more bilateral pattern. Only males elicited obvious frontally distributed old/new effect between 250 and 350 ms, which was negative-going and right-lateralized. Conclusion: Gender differences do exist in the recognition processing of Chinese words. Some of the gender differences could be interpreted as reflecting different strengths and speed of brain activation and others could be interpreted as reflecting the involvement of different neural structures.

Objective To explore the relationship between the expression level of p27 KIP1 and p57 KIP2 and the development and prognosis of thyroid carcinoma. Methods p27 KIP1 and p57 KIP2 expression in 6 nodular goitres, 10 thyroid adenomas and 35 thyroid carcinoma were detected by immunohistochemical method, and the relationship between p27 KIP1 and p57 KIP2 expression and clinicopathological characteristics were analyzed. Results The positive rate of nuclear expression of p27 KIP1 and p57 KIP2 in nodular goitres and thyroid adenomas was obviously higher than that in thyroid carcinomas, in papillary carcinoma and follicular carcinoma was significantly higher than that in medullary carcinoma and undifferentiated carcinoma, and in the thyroid carcinomas of stages I and II was also significantly higher that in the thyroid carcinomas of stages III and IV. The frequency of cytoplasmic expression of both p27 KIP1 and p57 KIP2 in thyroid carcinoma with lymph node metastasis was obviously higher than that in ones without lymph node metastasis. Conclusion The nuclear expression of both p27 KIP1 and p57 KIP2 in thyroid carcinoma were significantly associated with clinical stage, lymph node metastasis and local invasion. The low nuclear expression of p27 KIP1 and p57 KIP2 may indicate the poor prognosis of the patients, and the cytoplasmic expression may indicate the lymph node metastasis.

Cancer is considered as one of the major diseases endangering human health in the world, it is urgent to find a safer and more efficient treatment for cancer therapy. Gene therapy with ribonucleic acid (RNA) drugs could regulate the expression of tumor related genes, and exhibit good anti-tumor therapeutic potential in preclinical and clinical trials. Based on the differences between tumor tissues and normal tissues in microenvironment signal characteristics such as pH, specific enzyme concentration or redox gradient, various microenvironment responsive nanocarriers had been studied and developed to deliver RNA drugs to tumor tissues and cells, improving the anti-tumor efficacy of RNA drugs and reducing toxic and side effects. This paper reviews the pathophysiological characteristics of tumor microenvironment and various strategies of tumor microenvironment responsive nanocarriers, in order to provide reference for the design of safe and efficient RNA drug delivery system for cancer therapy.

Background and purpose:The theory of cancer stem cell offers us a new thought about tumors, more and more kinds of cancer stem cell were isolated and indentif ied from corresponding cancer tissue. Our aim was to investigate the content of side population cells in SW480 human colorectal cancer ce11 line and to enrich cancer stem- like cells in SW480 through serum-free medium (SFM) culture. Methods:The percentage of side population cells in human colorectal cancer cell line SW480 was detected with ? ow cytometry. SW480 cell line was cultivated in serum- free medium(SFM) supplemented with growth factors and the cancer stem-like cells reforming into ? oating spheres were isolated. The isolated cancer stem-like cells were identifi ed by limited-dilution assay, differentiation assay, self- renewal assay, and alternative cultivation assay. Results:The percentage of SP cells was 1.2% in SW480,In the absence of serum, a minority (0.54%-0.62%) of cancer stem-like cells in SW480 cells survived, proliferated and formed into the suspended tumor cell spheres. SW480 cancer stem-like cells possessed proliferative, self-renewal and differentiation potential, which were responsible for the ? oating tumor clone. Serum addition into SFM resulted in the proliferation of cancer stem-like cells; after several generations and alternated cultivation in SSM and SFM, cancer stem-like cells maintained their characteristics. Conclusions:SW480 cell line contains a tiny minority of SP cells with stem cell properties. The cancer stem-like cells in SW480 line can be maintained in SFM using a floating culture method.

Objective:To investigate the significance of CT imaging features in the diagnosis of first-episode paranoid schizophrenia.Methods:Forty-five patients with first-episode paranoid schizophrenia admitted to Shaoxing 7 th People's Hospital from January 2018 to January 2019 were included in the study group. An additional 40 healthy controls who received health examination were included in the control group. All participants underwent head CT scans and CT values of cerebral lobes were measured. CT imaging features of first-episode paranoid schizophrenia were analyzed. The recurrence rate of paranoid schizophrenia was calculated. The diagnostic effect of CT imaging on paranoid schizophrenia was evaluated. Results:The CT value of the frontal lobe in the study group was significantly lower than that in the control group [(33.1 ± 1.4) HU vs. (36.9 ± 2.1) HU, t = 9.914, P < 0.001]. The proportions of patients having ventricular enlargement, sulcus widening, arachnoid cyst and cisterna magna in the study group were 51.1%, 24.4%, 31.1% and 20.0% respectively, which were significantly higher than 5.5%, 2.5%, 2.5% and 2.5% respectively in the control group ( χ2 = 21.688, 8.411, 11.928, 4.675, all P < 0.05). The recurrence rate of paranoid schizophrenia in the study group was 22.2% (10/45). The CT value of the left and right frontal lobe in patients with recurrent paranoid schizophrenia was (32.1 ± 1.7) HU and (32.5 ± 1.6) HU respectively, which was significantly lower than (35.0 ± 1.9) HU and (34.9 ± 1.7) HU in patients without recurrent paranoid schizophrenia ( t = 4.348 and 3.985, both P < 0.001). Conclusion:Patients with first-episode paranoid schizophrenia have brain structural abnormalities, as manifested by ventricular enlargement, sulcus widening, arachnoid cyst, and cisterna magna. CT imaging features are of great value in the diagnosis of first-episode paranoid schizophrenia. It deserves wide popularization and has a great innovation value.
