1.From assistance to communitas:Changing of China’s position of global health governance from Ebola outbreak in Africa

Health is one of the essential ties between China and Africa. As the Chinese economy is experien-cing rapid development and the strategic transformation, the China-Africa cooperation is entering the era of communi-tas in all directions and the health-related aids and exchanges between China and Africa are experiencing new oppor-tunities and challenges. Previously, the China-Africa health cooperation has experienced three transitional stages from the assistance, collaboration and communitas. During the current global fight against Ebola outbreak period, while the world feared and wondered the Ebola in the beginning, China’s fast action on the fight had showed that not only the relationship between China and Africa is seen from the previous health aid legacy to Africa, but also is coming to the economic development communitas stage. Moreover, there are two essential government and non-government col-laboration established between China and Africa. So, when we analyze the fast action of China towards Ebola out-break, it is clearly shown that the China’s response is based in the perspective of humanitarian, super state accounta-ble responsibilities, and also focused on health system resilience in the epidemic countries. China and Africa are stepping into the economic development communitas stage. Therefore, this change of cooperation reflects the change of China’s position in the global health governance.
2.Clinical characteristic of septicemia and septic shock in elderly patients with liver disease

Objective To study the clinical characteristics of septicemia and septic shock in elderly patients with liver disease. Methods Fifty-two patients over 60 years old with liver disease and positive blood culture, admitted form 1999 to 2003, were enrolled for analysis. Results Septic shock was found in 8 patients (15.4%). The course of sepsis was complicated by progressive deterioration of hepatic and renal functions. 18 patients (34.6%) died or left the hospital in a critical condition. 52 strains of pathogenic bacteria were isolated, among which 71.2% were G +germ, 26.9% G -germ and 1.9% fungi. Conclusion Septicemia and septic shock can exacerbate liver disease. Early diagnosis and treatment should be emphasized to lower the mortality.
3.Comparison of culture and PCR assays for detection of bacteria in laboratory rats and mice

Objective To compare the efficiency of bacteria culture and PCR assays for detection of Staphylococcus aureus ( S.aureus) , Pseudomonas aeruginosa ( P.aeruginosa) and Klebsiella pneumoniae ( K.pneumoniae) in laboratory rats and mice.Methods Bacteria culture combined with biochemical identification and PCR assay were used to detect 78 SPF rats and 422 SPF mice and the results of the two methods were compared .Results All the 78 rats were negative .Of the 422 mice, the positive rate by culture was 7.11%(30/422), of which, 10 were S.aureus, 22 were P.aeruginosa, and 2 were K.pneumoniae.The positive rate by PCR was 7.58%(32/422), of which, 10 were S.aureus, 25 were P. aeruginosa, and 2 were K.pneumoniae.Conclusions The high sensitivity , rapid procedure and easy to operate of PCR assay makes it valuable for rapid bacteria diagnosis and large-scale screening in laboratory animals .
4.STUDY ON TISSUE-SPECIFICITY OF ? -CAROTENE-15,15’-MONOOXYGENASE IN CHICKEN

Objective To study the tissue-specificity of ?-carotene-15,15’-monooxygenase(? CMOOX). Method Semi-quantitative RT-PCR and HPLC were used to study the expression of ?CMOOX mRNA and its activity in different tissues of chicken. Results ?CMOOX mRNA was expressed in tissues including heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, muscle and testis, not expressed in lung. Furthermore, it was expressed in jejunum with the highest level. ?CMOOX activity was found in every tissue, except lung, and highest in duodenum and jejunum. Conclusion The distribution of ?CMOOX in chicken has tissue specificity.
5.Clinical study of hepatoarterical catheter chemotherapy for gastric carcinoma with liver metastasis

Objective To study the effect and value of hepatoarterical catheter chemotherapy in treating gastric carcinoma with liver metastasis. Methods A total of 31 cases of gastric carcinoma with liver metastasis undergoing radical operation were preoperatively randomly divided into 2 groups: Regional infusion chemotherapy (treatment group, 17 cases) and peripheral venous chemotherapy (control group, 14 cases). Results The short-term effectiveness of the treatment group was 88.3 %(15/17). The survival rates of 1, 2, 3 year were 88.2 %, 62.7 %, 28.9 %, respectively. However, the short-term effectiveness of the control group was 28.6 %(4/14). The survival rates of 1, 2, 3 year were 68.1 %, 38.9 %, 13.0 %, respectively. There was obvious difference between the two groups (χ~2 = 12.87, P <0.05;χ~2 =5.511, P<0.01). Conclusion Hepatoarterical catheter chemotherapy is effective for gastric carcinoma with liver metastasis undergoing radical operation and has less toxic side effects.
6.Insulin protects endothelial progenitor cells against functional damage caused by high glucose

AIM:To investigate the impact of various levels of glucose on endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) proliferation, senescence, and nitric oxide (NO) secretion,and the effect of insulin under high glucose conditions.METHODS: Mononuclear cells were collected from rat bone marrow by density gradient centrifugation, cultured with medium 199, and identified to be EPCs at 7th day by flk-1 and AC133 double staining. EPCss were harvested and incubated with glucose (5, 10, 20, 40 mmol/L) or insulin (0.1, 1, 10, 100 nmol/L) under high glucose conditions for 24 h or 7 days. 8.Preliminary observation on the interference effect of Helicobacter hepaticus infection on the immune response in BALB/c mice

Objective To determine the interference effect of H. hepaticus infection on the functional characteris-tics of dendritic cell ( DC) surface molecules and immune response in mice. Methods Male BALB/c mice were inocula-ted with H. hepaticus (ATCC 51450). Murine bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (DC) were isolated and co-cultured which were stimulated by GM-CSF and IL-4 at the fifth month after the last inoculation. Then the DCs were subjected to FACS analysis for surface markers (CD11c, CD40, CD80 and MHCII) detection. On this basis, virus suspension of New-castle disease virus( NDV) ZJ1 strain was inoculated into the mice. Serum was collected for detection of the NDV antibody titer in serum weekly to explore the difference of antibody titer between the two groups. Results The expression rates of CD40 and MHCII on the mouse DCs in experimental group were higher than that in the control group. The NDV antibody ti-ter of experimental group was slightly lower than that in the control group in the first week. During the 2nd to 5th weeks, the titer was higher than that in the control group, with a very significant difference. In the 6th week, the titer of both the two groups tended to fall. Conclusions H. hepaticus infection can promote bone marrow DC maturation in mice, stimulate the expression rates of MHC II and CD40, and enhance the NDV antibody levels.
9.Changes on blood glucose of different operation scheme after gastrectomy for gastric cancer in patients complicated with diabetes mellitus

Objective To observe the effect of gastrectomy for gastric cancer on blood glucose in patients complicated with type 2 diabetes mellitus by using different operation strategies.Methods The retrospective analysis was carried out of 68 cases who undergone radical surgery for gastric cancer and complicated with type 2 diabetes mellitus.These patients were divided into 3 groups by different kinds of digestive tract reconstruction,Billroth Ⅰ (n =26),Billroth Ⅱ (n =22) and Roux-en-Y (n =20).The levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG) were detected before and after operation one week,one month and six months in three groups.Results Comparing to the level before operation,the level of FBG after operation showed a descent in group B and group C((10.03 ±5.12) vs.(13.56 ±3.36) mmol/L; (8.44 ±5.21) vs.(13.56 ±3.36) mmol/L;(10.61 ±3.16) vs.(12.84 ±3.36) and(7.68 ±4.88) vs.(12.84 ±3.36) mmol/L) which was better than group A((10.03 ±5.12)vs.(11.12 ±6.32),(8.44 ±5.21) vs.(11.12 ±6.32) mmol/L;(10.61 ±3.16) vs.(11.12 ±6.32) mmol/L),(7.68 ±4.88) vs.(11.12 ±6.32) mmol/L;P<0.05,but there was no significantly difference between B and group C (P > 0.05).The 3 groups of patients,with B,C groups of patients with diabetes improved obviously,of which nearly 50% of patients cured,normal blood sugar control,the other part with the exception of a few effective,degradation of diabetes drug treatment,and operation effect was significant.Conclusion It is effective to control the blood glucose of gastric cancer patients complicated with type 2 diabetes with Billroth II or Roux-en-Y gastrectomy.There is a correlation between postoperative blood glucose change and different gastrojejunal anastomosis.
10.Experimental study on relationship between Smad4 and angiogenesis related factors in human gastric cancer cell line

Objective To study the effect of Smad4 gene on angiogenesis related factors in human gastric cancer cell line.Methods Recombinant eukaryotie expressing plasmid pcDNA3.1 (-)-Smad4 containing Smad4 gene and empty vector pcDNA3.1 (-) were introduced into human gastric cancer cell line MKN28 using lipofectam and selected by G418,respectively.Two cell lines were obtained as follows:Smad4+-MKN28 cell line which was MKN28 transfected with a stable hybrid containing Smad4 gene and Smad4--MKN28 cell line with empty plasmid as control.The transcription and expression of VEGF and TSP1 were investigated by RT-PCR and Western blot.Results The mRNA expression of TSP1 in Smad4+-MKN28 cells was higher (P<0.05) than that in control cells,while VEGF was lower(P<0.05).Western blot showed the consistent results as measurement by RT-PCR.Conclusion Smad4 restoration in gastric cancer cells reduced angiogenesis rates through down-regulation of angiogenesis activitor and up-regulation of angiogenesis inhibitor.
