Objective To compare the differences of chemotaxis at the tissue specific level and topographic specificity level during peripheral nerve regeneration after the severance injury of the sciatic nerve in rats of different ages. Methods 40 specific pathogen free Sprague Dawley 18 day old rats (called as young group) were chosen to correspond as nearly as possible to humans of about 1 year of age. 40 adult rats (called as adult group) were chosen to correspond as adult humans. The tissue and topographic specificity models were set up respectively after the severance of the sciatic nerve at the right side. Electromyography and morphological evaluations were conducted for determination of the nerve regeneration on 3 and 6 weeks postoperatively. Results On 3 and 6 weeks after operation, the recovery rate of nerve conduction velocity, the exact rate of nerve regeneration, the ratio of nerve conduction velocity between tibial and peroneal nerve, the ratio of amplitude of CMAP between tibial and peroneal nerve, the ratio of the number of myelinated axon between the tibial and peroneal nerve at the distal part in the young group were lower than those in the adult group respectively. There were statistically significant differences between the 2 groups. The recovery rate of amplitude in compound muscle action potential (CMAP) was lower in the young group than in the adult group, but the difference was not significant enough. Conclusion Since the tissue and topographic specificities in the young rats are both inferior to those in the adult rats, co contraction between agonists and antagonists may result from cross innervation during the peripheral nerve regeneration.

Objective To systematically assess the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture for trigeminal neuralgia. Method Randomized controlled trials of a electroacupuncture treatment for trigeminal neuralgia were sought by a computer search of CNKI,Wan Fang Data,VIP,CBM,PubMed,EMbas and The Cochrane Library. The retrieval time limit was from March 1996 to March 2016. Two reviewers sifted the literature and extracted data independently according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria andthen assessed the riskofbias of the included literatureusing the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool.Ameta-analysis was made using RevMan 5.3.Result Finally, 12 articles were included with atotal of 847 subjects. The results ofmeta-analysis showed that the total efficacy rate was higher in the electroacupuncture group than in the control group [OR=4.04,95%CI(2.67, 6.13),P<0.00001].There were no statistically significant differences in the VAS score [MD=﹣0.06,95%CI(﹣0.59, 0.47),P=0.82] and the recurrence rate [OR=0.64,95%CI(0.05,7.45),P=0.54] between the electroacupuncture and control groups. Conclusion The currentlimited evidenceshows that the total efficacy rate fortrigeminal neuralgiais higher in the electroacupuncture group than in the control group. There are no statistically significant differences in the VAS score and the recurrence rate of trigeminal neuralgia between the electroacupuncture and control groups of patients. But the conclusions need more high-qualitytrials for validation owing to the limitation of the sample size of the included studies.

Journal of Third Military Medical University 2003;0(23):-
Objective To identify the promoter sequence of endothelial-overexpressed lipopolysaccharideassociated factor 1 ( EOLA1) gene and to elucidate the molecular mechanisms controlling EOLA1 expression. Methods A DNA fragment containing 1 723 bp 5' upstream of the EOLA1 gene and the transcription start site was generated by polymerase chain reaction and then cloned into a luciferase reporter gene vector,pGL3-basic. The relative luciferase activities driven by this 5'-upstream fragment and a series of deletion mutants were measured in transiently transfected human ECV304 cells, respectively. At last, the 1 723 bp upstream of the EOLA1 gene was analyzed online with Cluster Buster. Results A fragment 785 bp upstream of the EOLA1 coding region was sufficient to promote transcription. Further deletion analysis of the 785 bp fragment indicated that a 68 bp element from-738 to -676 was important for EOLA1 transcription in ECV304 cells. The 1 723 bp sequence contains binding sites for Sp1 and Myf. Conclusion We map the EOLA1 promoter by deletion analysis and reveal that the proximal region ( -738 to -676 bp) ,which contains binding sites for Sp1 and Myf,is essential for human EOLA1 promoter activity in ECV304 cells.

Transforming growth factor-β is an important cytokine with various bioactivities, including embryonic development, wound healing, chemotaxis and cell cycle regulation. Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is the main pathway of tumor cell to obtain the ability of invasion and metastasis. The TGF-β is the key factor known to induce EMT in cancer cells and plays an important role in the process. In recent years, some progress has been obtained. Some TGF-β inhibitors have approved in the market or in clinical trials. TGF-β inhibitors can play an important role on the treatment of tumors, glaucoma, liver and kidney fibrosis disease and scar repair. Novel TGF-β inhibitors reported in recent years were reviewed in this article.
