1.Recent progress on study of the selection of intraocular lens in the bilateral sequential cataract surgery
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2014;32(6):560-562
Bilateral sequential cataract surgery is very common in clinical, but the ophthalmologists often ignore how to choose the timing of operation and whether the first eye can be used to improve the intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation for the second one.Despite the refinements in IOL selection with the use of third-generation IOL formulas,5% of eyes still result in a postoperative refractive surprise of ± 1.00 D or more. This paper introduced the methods of using refraction error of the first eye to improve the IOL power calculation for the second eye,and the refractive error of the second eye can be improved by modifying the IOL power to correct up to 50% of the error from the first eye in details.Because of the variation of the postoperative refractive surprise within a month, the interval of three to four weeks between two eyes cataract surgery is highly recommended. These conclusions may provide the advantageous guidance for us in the selection of IOL in bilateral cataract surgery.

The antimicrobial peptide magainin II is expressed in the skin of the African clawed frog, Xenopus laevis, and exhibits a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity as well as tumoricidal properties at low concentrations. In addition, magaininII plays a synergistic role during antimicrobial and tumoricidal processes with another antimicrobial peptide PGLa that is also expressed in Xenopus laevis. The optimized cDNA sequence of magainin II and magainin II-PGLa hybrid peptide according to E. coli or Pichia pastoris codon usage frequency were synthesized and sub-cloned into prokaryotic expression vector pGEX and Pichia pastoris secreted expression vector pPIC9k. The resulting recombinant plasmids were named as pGEX-magainin II and pPIC9k-magainin II-PGLa. The GST-magainin II fusion protein was highly expressed in E. coli. Furthermore, magainin II was successfully purified by digestion with PreScission Protease to cleave the GST tag. Additionally, our data obtained from the ELISA revealed that magainin II -PGLa hybrid peptide was successfully expressed in Pichia pastoris. These experiments establish a useful system for further studies of these antimicrobial peptides.

4.Cluster ensemble algorithm based on dual neural gas applied to cancer gene expression profiles.
Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2015;32(1):93-98
The microarray technology used in biological and medical research provides a new idea for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. To find different types of cancer and to classify the cancer samples accurately, we propose a new cluster ensemble framework Dual Neural Gas Cluster Ensemble (DNGCE), which is based on neural gas algorithm, to discover the underlying structure of noisy cancer gene expression profiles. This framework DNGCE applies the neural gas algorithm to perform clustering not only on the sample dimension, but also on the attribute dimension. It also adopts the normalized cut algorithm to partition off the consensus matrix constructed from multiple clustering solutions. We obtained the final accurate results. Experiments on cancer gene expression profiles illustrated that the proposed approach could achieve good performance, as it outperforms the single clustering algorithms and most of the existing approaches in the process of clustering gene expression profiles.

5.The characteristics of Hepatitis B virus genotypes in Kunming
International Journal of Laboratory Medicine 2010;31(5):444-446
Objective To investigate the distribution and the characteristics of HBV genotype in Kunming City,China. Methods The HBV genotypes and HBV-DNA levels of 360 patients in Kunming were detected by real-time quantitative PCR using type-specific primers, the serum-types were also detected in ELISA at the same time. Results Of the 360 specimens,346(96.11%) could be detected directly, among them 196 were genotype C(56.65%),91 were genotype B(26.30%),91 were genotype B(26.30%),37 were in B-C mix-type (10.69%),21 were genotype D(6.07%),1 were genotype A(0.29%).Among them, the genotype C was higer than the others (P<0.01);HBV-DNA levels of the patients with genotype C and B-C mix-type were higer than the genotype B and the others(P<0.01,P<0.05) (beside the positive proportions of genotype B was lower in the serum with"HB-sAg( + ),HBeAg( + ),anti-HBc( + )"(P<0.01),the other genotypes were no relation with their serum-types (P>0.05);the 360 specimens,14(3.89%)could not be detected directly, the average level of them was 4.136X 103IU/ml,it was lower than that of others(P<0.05).Conclusion The HBV-genotypes in Kunming area are abundant, including genotype C,B,D,A and B/C mix-type.The dominant genotype of HBV are C and B,and the HBV-DNA level of genotypes B/C mix-type and C were singnificantly higher than that of others ;The negative relation existed between the genotype B's frequency and the positive proportions of HBeAg;The genotype D frequency of this region is higher than that of lower-altitude inland areas and lower than that of plateau areas around Lahsa, which probably stands for its epidemiologic feature.Meanwhile, those samples without direct identification contain relatively lower level of HBV-DNA,which probably suggests that HBV genotype should be conducted on a basis of a certain HBV-DNA quantity.
6.Effect of midazolam as premedication on stress response in patients undergoing cervical plexus block
The Journal of Clinical Anesthesiology 2010;26(3):200-202
Objective To investigate the effect of midazolam as premedication on stress response in patients undergoing cervical plexus block. Methods Sixty female patients undergoing selective thyroid surgery were equally randomized into groups of A and B.The patients in group A were intramuscularly injected midazolam 0.08 mg/kg before cervical plexus block and those in group B were not as the controls.Cervical plexus block was performed with 20 ml mixeture of 1% lidocaine and 0.25% ropivacaine 20 min later.BP and HR were recorded,rate-systolic pressure product (RPP) was calculated, and serum glucose(Glu),cortisol (Cor) and angiotensin Ⅱ (AT-Ⅱ) were detected before enter(T_0),before cervical plexus block(T_1),at 5 min(T_2),15 min(T_3) and 25 min(T_4) after cervical plexus block injection. Results In group B BP,HR,RPP,Glu,Cor and AT-Ⅱ all higher at T_1-T_4 than those at T_0 BP,HR,RPP,Glu,Cor and AT-Ⅱ were all lower in group A than those in group B at T_1-T_4 (P<0.05).Conclusion Intramuscularly premedication with midazolam is effective in reducing stress response in patients undergoing cervical plexus block.
7.Mechanism of lactoferrin in cancer treatment
Fudan University Journal of Medical Sciences 2010;37(1):119-121
Lactoferrin has antitumoral activity. Lactoferrin exerts anti-carcinogenic effects via its ability to modulate host immunity, suppress proliferation, induce apoptosis, block cell cycle, inhibit angiogenesis, regulate carcinogen-metabolizing enzymes and sequester iron, etc. Safety and no toxicity of lactoferrin provide a new selection for cancer treatment.

10.Research progress on mechanism and premedication regimen of taxanes hypersensitivity reactions
Journal of International Oncology 2009;36(3):190-192
Hypersensitivity reactions ( HSRs) are the serious problems of taxanes in the clinical appli- cation. These reactions range in severity from mild flushing and itching to bronchospasm, dyspnea and signifi-cant alterations in blood pressure with loss of consciousness or not, and death in some rare cases. Nevertheless, HSRs are often reported only sporadically in clinical trials or as case reports. The vague or inconsistent termi-nology used to describe these reactions may reflect our poor understanding of their pathophysiology. This article will reviews the advancement of taxanes HSRs.
