1.Recent progress on study of the selection of intraocular lens in the bilateral sequential cataract surgery
Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2014;32(6):560-562
Bilateral sequential cataract surgery is very common in clinical, but the ophthalmologists often ignore how to choose the timing of operation and whether the first eye can be used to improve the intraocular lens (IOL) power calculation for the second one.Despite the refinements in IOL selection with the use of third-generation IOL formulas,5% of eyes still result in a postoperative refractive surprise of ± 1.00 D or more. This paper introduced the methods of using refraction error of the first eye to improve the IOL power calculation for the second eye,and the refractive error of the second eye can be improved by modifying the IOL power to correct up to 50% of the error from the first eye in details.Because of the variation of the postoperative refractive surprise within a month, the interval of three to four weeks between two eyes cataract surgery is highly recommended. These conclusions may provide the advantageous guidance for us in the selection of IOL in bilateral cataract surgery.

The antimicrobial peptide magainin II is expressed in the skin of the African clawed frog, Xenopus laevis, and exhibits a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity as well as tumoricidal properties at low concentrations. In addition, magaininII plays a synergistic role during antimicrobial and tumoricidal processes with another antimicrobial peptide PGLa that is also expressed in Xenopus laevis. The optimized cDNA sequence of magainin II and magainin II-PGLa hybrid peptide according to E. coli or Pichia pastoris codon usage frequency were synthesized and sub-cloned into prokaryotic expression vector pGEX and Pichia pastoris secreted expression vector pPIC9k. The resulting recombinant plasmids were named as pGEX-magainin II and pPIC9k-magainin II-PGLa. The GST-magainin II fusion protein was highly expressed in E. coli. Furthermore, magainin II was successfully purified by digestion with PreScission Protease to cleave the GST tag. Additionally, our data obtained from the ELISA revealed that magainin II -PGLa hybrid peptide was successfully expressed in Pichia pastoris. These experiments establish a useful system for further studies of these antimicrobial peptides.

3.Mechanism of lactoferrin in cancer treatment
Fudan University Journal of Medical Sciences 2010;37(1):119-121
Lactoferrin has antitumoral activity. Lactoferrin exerts anti-carcinogenic effects via its ability to modulate host immunity, suppress proliferation, induce apoptosis, block cell cycle, inhibit angiogenesis, regulate carcinogen-metabolizing enzymes and sequester iron, etc. Safety and no toxicity of lactoferrin provide a new selection for cancer treatment.
4.Small molecule inhibitors of Bcl-2 proteins:research progress
Journal of International Oncology 2010;37(8):579-581
Small molecule inhibitors of Bcl-2 are a novel class of anticancer drugs that target anti-apoptotic proteins. In recent years, small molecule inhibitors such as ABT-737 ,ABT-263, gossypol, apogossypol,TW-37,obatoclax, HAl4-1 have attracted much reseach attention. Preclinical trials have shown that the inhibitors have cancer killing effect on some tumors when used alone and exhibit striking synergistic effect when combined with radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy.
5.Clinical curative effect of chronic heart failure treated by noninvasive positive pressure ventilation method
Chinese Journal of Primary Medicine and Pharmacy 2011;18(13):1770-1771
Objective To observe the clinical curative effect of chronic heart failure (CHF) treated by noninvasive positive pressure ventilation ( NPPV). Methods 48 cases of CHF were randomly assigned to conventional drug treatment under oxygen (control group, n = 24) and non-invasive positive pressure ventilation ( NPPV) under the conventional therapy group (observation group, n =24). The plasma N-brain natriuretic peptide( proN-BNP) and cardiac function changes in two groups before and after treatment were observed. Results The total effective rate 92% in observation group was significantly higher than 66% in control group ( x2 =3. 7851, P < 0. 05 ) ; The plasma proNBNP、respiratory rate and heart rate after treatment in two groups were lower than before treatment(t = 2.787,2.815, 2. 856,2.789,2.804,2.840,all P<0.01) ;The plasma proN-BNPand heart rate in observation group after treatment were lower than the control group(t =2.123,2.221,all P <0.05). Conclusion Noninvasive positive pressure ventilation could significantly improve heart function, reduce plasma proN-BNP and enharce curative effect.

10.α7nAChR is involved in anti-inflammation of physiological concentrations of glucocorticoids
Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 2014;33(4):706-710
AIM:To explore the role of α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7nAChR) in anti-inflammation of glucocorticoids (GCs) at physiological concentrations .METHODS: MTT assay was used to measure the viability of BV-2 cells, which were processed by hydrocortisone at different concentrations .On the basis of inflammatory model induced by LPS in BV-2 cells, experimental groups were divided as follows:(1) control;(2) LPS;(3) GCs+LPS;(4) methyl-lycaconitine ( MLA)+GCs+LPS.The levels of TNF-αand IL-1βin the cell supernatants were detected by ELISA .RE-SULTS:Hydrocortisone at concentrations of 2 000 and 1 000 nmol/L decreased the cell viability to (76.9 ±5.5)% and (90.8 ±7.3)%, respectively, indicating the cellular injury by GCs at over-physiological doses.LPS significantly induced the releases of TNF-αand IL-1βin a time-and dose-dependent manner in BV-2 cells.Hydrocortisone at physiological con-centrations (500 and 250 nmol/L) reduced the releases of TNF-αand IL-1βin BV-2 cells stimulated by LPS, and MLA at concentration of 10 nmol/L antagonized the anti-inflammatory effect of GCs .CONCLUSION:α7nAChR is involved in the anti-inflammatory effect of the physiological concentrations of GCs .
