Objective To study the regional homogeneity (ReHo) of default-mode network (DMN) in patients with minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) with resting state fMRI.Methods Eighteen MHE patients and eighteen healthy controls (HC) underwent standard resting state fMRI scan. The resting state fMRI data were analyzed with the ReHo method to observe the changes of DMN in the patients in contrast to the controls. Results Compared to healthy controls,MHE patients showed lower ReHo in bilateral MPFC/anterior cingulate cortex(V=13.257 cm3;MNI coordinates=3,24,66;t=-3.493 7),bilateral precuneus/posterior cingulate cortex(V=4.752 cm3;MNI coordinates=9,-54,45;t=-2.634 1),while higher ReHe in right medial prefrontal cortex(V=5.049 cm3;MNI coordinates=21,63,6;t=4.017 5).Conclusion In MHE patients, there is abnormal neuron activation in the widespread DMN regions under resting state, which indicated abnormal spontaneous activity consistency within DMN and endogenous brain function injury in MHE patients.ReHo can be used to observe DMN changes in MHE patients.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the changes in serum amylase (AMY) and lipase (LPS) and their clinical significance in patients with acute paraquat poisoning (APP).
METHODSThe clinical data of 62 APP. patients who were admitted to Guangzhou 12th People's Hospital in 2014 were retrospectively analyzed. With clinical death being regarded as the end point of observation, the 62 patients were divided into survival group (n=32) and death group (n=30). The fasting venous blood of the patients on the 1st, 3rd, and 7th day after admission were collected, and the AMY and LPS levels were determined; the obtained data were compared between the two groups and analyzed statistically.
RESULTSThe AMY and LPS levels of the survival group on the 1st, 3rd, and 7th day after admission were significantly lower than those of the death group (P<0.05); the AMY and LPS levels of the death group on the 3rd day were significantly higher than those on the 1st day after admission (P<0.05); the survival group demonstrated no significant changes in AMY and LPS levels (P>0.05).
CONCLUSIONChanges in AMY and LPS levels in APP patients are reliable indicators for the determination of poisoning severity and prognosis.

Objective In human, both in vivo and in vitro, telomere shortening appears to be a major component of cell senescence and aging. However, gender specific human telomere shortening needs to be further characterized. Therefore our study is aimed at clarifying gender-dependent profiles of telomere shortening. Methods 123 peripheral blood samples were collected from healthy individuals of different ages. The mean telomeric restricted fragment (TRF) was measured using Southern Blotting with Dig-labeled probe. Results Distinguished dynamics profiles of telomere shortening were observed among different age groups. Conclusion The result indicates that there are gender specific dynamic profiles of telomere shortening. Therefore, the gender must be considered when an individual age is estimated by telomeric restricted fragment length assay.

Objective Estimate the paternity exclusion probability for 15 short tandem repeats (CODIS set plus Penta D and Penta E) in duo paternity tests. Methods 644 random individuals were paired to con-struct 207046 fictitious duo families. Cases of non-exclusion or with only one exclusionarylocus were count-ed. Results 27 cases could not be excluded by the 15 STR loci. The combined probability of exclusion was 0.999869. Number of cases showing only one exclusionary locus was 384 (0.185%). Conclusion To con-firm relationship in duo cases with only 15 STRs should be careful. Extensive genetic markers is needed to discriminate one locus exclusion or mutation.
